  1. I bought two sets on purpose because I have two cars...
  2. I just checked. For the 74tii distributor he said: "Try 14 degrees BTDC at idle no vacuum". For the 008 from my 73tii he said: "Try 14 degrees BTDC at idle." Both are using points.
  3. I had a 74tii stock distributor rebuilt by Advanced Distributors. The owner Jeff Schlemmer told me the same thing. He said the advance curve was similar/same as the earlier tii 008 distributors. Maybe that's after he does his magic on it. Don't know. He suggested that I cap off the vacuum retard on mine. I haven't installed the rebuilt unit yet. I'm running another stock 74tii distributor with the vacuum retard and all of the stock air hoses still there. It runs great so I haven't messed with it.
  4. Those Michelin XDXs in 185/70 13 are pricey, but they sure do look awesome. Has anyone here purchased a set? I know they are expensive...
  5. I'm sure all of the usual suspects have them (Blunt, Max, IE etc.) I think I got mine here BEHR/Mahle brand: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/1153146805680-MFG322-V5478.aspx
  6. After putting in a high capacity radiator from W&N, I had to switch to using an 80 degree thermostat just to keep it running hot enough. I also switched out the standard tii "Tropical" fan for the smaller kind (less noise). No issues with overheating.
  7. I can confirm that the bracket and pin fit the door brakes that Harry Davis sells. I've got both, but I like these modified Mercedes ones from Harry better than the newer style ones that BMW sells now. Less pop when you open the doors. More of a cushioned feel to them Time for me to start peeling back the original 1-piece carpet in my 74tii to expose that access hole. 1 piece carpet is a PITA and mine is all sandy and stinky, I think i see a carpet kit from Esty in my future...
  8. Paid on Friday, delivered on Saturday. Doesn't get much better than that! Thank you Brendan for making this happen, John
  9. Had to get out of the house. Took a drive out by Moss Landing, CA. Lettuce field overlooking beautiful Monterey Bay in the distance.
  10. These can also be "blacked out" using a spray of SEM trim black 39143 to match a later square taillight car. Metal frame instead of plastic. It takes a little work
  11. Awesome car, but that interior makes me want to puke. ?
  12. I'm in for two sets @mo02 Love your work., John
  13. No, I wasn't talking about the difference between the round and square taillight door cards. I was talking about the upper metal (aluminum) pieces that are attached by clips at the top of each door card. The pictures on the W&N site show that piece attached, so I assume you get them when you order a set from W&N. I ordered round tail-light black door cards for my 73tii a few years ago from BMW and all you got was the door card, no clips, no upper metal pieces. I had to re-use my originals. These pieces are often bent and/or pitted out on many of the cars I've seen. Would love to be able to get new ones.
  14. Interested to hear how they work for you. Nice that it appears that they include the upper metal piece too. I ordered new originals from BMW a few years back and they didn't come with the upper metal pieces which are NLA.
  15. +1 on that. Check the alternator bushings and the bushings for the lower support arm on the alternator too
  16. Maybe the resistor is all about radio noise suppression. Radio Noise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dBt3mJtgJc
  17. Bosch W8DC was the standard plug I used when I first bought my car and while they were still made in Germany. When Bosch production moved to Brazil the quality seemed to fade. I found a stash of old German-made W8DCs on Australian e-bay years ago. In Victoria, Australia. I guess the old Holden and Ford Cortina used the same plugs. Still the NGK BP5ES is my 1st choice.
  18. Hi, my name is John (JohnS on the BMW 2002 FAQ) and I'm a Spark Plug Hoarder... ☺️
  19. If you're using the stock spark plug "resistor" boots on your wires, maybe the additional resistor in the plug isn't needed? I always wondered why the stock spark plug boots contained a resistor? Slightly weaker spark? To increase plug life? I'm shit with electrics too.
  20. I've been waiting for something like this for years. I've been holding off on cutting the sheet metal in order to provide the access to repair mine. I am definitely interested. Look forward to hearing more details about pricing and availability. Thanks, John
  21. I'm not sure, but I think that back when I had my 73tii's clock repaired by Palo Alto Speedometer, they replaced the old clock mechanism with a quartz unit. It keeps perfect time and has the original early all black faceplate. No ping noise like the original though... which I miss ?
  22. Any man who can turn cardboard into an M10 engine is an Alchemist in my book ?
  23. Gentlemen, It's been brought to my attention by another FAQ member that my recommendation of using the Viton material for the heater valve O-rings might not be the best choice. Perhaps the EDPM material would be better? Sorry folks. Just wanted to point out my error and open the subject up for debate. Here's the descriptions from the O-ring store: Viton: avoid hot water, steam. Yikes: https://www.theoringstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=368_65 EDPM: more better? https://www.theoringstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=368_2278 Thanks, John
