  1. Weird. The whole idea behind the external resistor is to drop down the voltage for the coil while the car is running. That way when starting, the ballast gets bypassed and the coil gets boosted with the full 12 volts during starting. I still contend that the "red" coil is designed to run continuously with less than 12 volts. You've probably already seen this, but... Glad it's working for you without the resistor. I'll keep the 1.8 resistor with my red coil and Pertronix. It's been working great for over 20 years now. Good luck, John
  2. Did you also bypass the 0.9 ohm resistance wire that's built into the wiring harness on the later square tail regular (non-tii) 2002 cars? Running a "red" coil without the 1.8 ohm resistor isn't recommended. You're essentially overloading your coil with more voltage that's it's designed to run with. This will lead to premature coil failure. The "red" coil is designed to run continuously with less than 12 volts (hence the resistor). Does your coil get hot after you drive for a while?
  3. JWT, your coil (silver can, green sticker) should be matched to a 0.9 ohm ballast Resistor. It should say that on the green sticker. You can get the 0.9 ohm resistor from Bosch or BERU makes one too that's less expensive. This is where I recently purchased mine frrom: Bosch: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/0001580845-MFG14-V3244.aspx BERU: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/0001580845-MFG47-V3244.aspx 0,9 is the way that Europeans write 0.9 or 9/10ths. Good luck, John
  4. There's always the Alpina style reproduction lug nuts that CoupeKing sells: http://www.coupeking.com/shop/product/alpina-lug-nuts/ These fit both the early and later style alloys well and are solid with no cap to come loose and fall off like the OEM lug nuts.
  5. The 0 231 180 013 Distributor is a weird bird. For reference it takes these parts: Weird "left hand" Points Bosch #01012 Condensor Bosch #02102 or Pertronix 1843
  6. If the 03012 fits this same "tab-up" style clip, it might be more "correct" than the 03019 I'm using. I wonder what the difference might be if they both fit and work? Maybe the color, dunno...
  7. Hi there, I verified that my stock '74tii Bosch 0 231 180 013 Distributor has the same "tab-up" mounting clip as yours and takes the Bosch 03019 Distributor Cap or the BREMI 8016 cap. The Bosch Cap is black in color now. Not sure if the Bosch part numbers have changed, but the Bosch caps that I have are 03019. The same mounting tab and cap are on my stock 0 231 151 008 distributor from my '73tii too. Old picture taken before I sent both off to be rebuilt by AD.
  8. I have a 74tii with the same stock vacuum retard distributor. It's specific to the '74tii. It doesn't have vacuum advance, just vacuum retard. I can verify the proper part number for the Bosch cap that's supposed to match that distributor when I get home tonight. I believe that the "tab-up" clip is correct for that distributor, but will verify tonight and report back. John
  9. That's cool that Longstone is still the winner. I hadn't considered the current exchange rates. And the CA taxes I would pay if I ordered from The Rack. When I ordered my set of CN 36s from Longstone a few years ago, I was surprised at how quickly they arrived. I'm a Happy Customer for sure! I didn't have to pay any import fees or anything extra for shipment to CA.
  10. I see that the Pirelli CN36 has made its way to TireRack. Good price
  11. Solution, buy the correct Vent Hose from BMW. It's a push on fit and doesn't require any clamps. BMW Part Number: 11151252665. You might also need the little hose and nipple that T-connects the larger hose with the tii throttle body. Numbers 2, 3 & 4 in the realoem diagram. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=2233-USA-02-1974-114-BMW-2002tii&diagId=11_2376
  12. Square tails make better surfing vehicles. You can sit on the rear bumper when you're changing into your wetsuit. ? Also, the rear bumper actually offers some protection if you get rear ended AMHIK. I will never do a bumper conversion on my 74tii.
  13. Of course ? I promised my friend (the farmer) not to throw dirt on his Brussel Sprout crop though...
  14. Had to take her for a shake down cruze after installing the alternator bracket. Through the beautiful Brussel Sprout fields of Watsonville. ? No problems
  15. Installed the Themis Alternator Bracket Upgrade on my '73 tii today.. As expected, my lower mounts were toast ... mush. I missed out on the first run that Themis made of these brackets. Glad I was able to participate in the 2nd run. He's got them for sale in the 'For Sale' section here for both tiis and 2002s. Thanks Themis, John

If you haven't already, you might want to post this on E9Coupe.com too.
  17. Pm'd to order two of the tii sets. Thanks, John
  18. What do people think about a 185/70 R13 on a 6x13" rim? A little bit stretched ... maybe? OK?
  19. your cancelled VIN is like one of those double stamped rare coins. Priceless ?
  20. The Campys look great. Looks like they fit pretty well. Good job!
  21. Are you sure the bakelite ends were fully pushed onto the threaded plug ends? On my wires with those same type of BERU bakelite ends, it takes a bit of force to push them onto the plugs and also to remove them. I've never had them just come off.
