  2. I'd like to see them start a production run of tii water pumps and also tii front brake rotors again. These have been on backorder for quite a while now. Thanks, John
  3. Ryan, Sorry to hear about this. As one "surf dude" to another, at least you didn't have your boards on the car at the time of the accident. That's important Hope you get well soon. Cars is just stuff, John
  4. Delia, It sounds like you took great care in cleaning that up. Great to hear. I'm the same way when working with the brittle old plastic '02 parts too. After breaking a few things, I eventually learned. Thanks, John
  5. Delia, Care to share what you used to clean the back seat? It looks so much better. As far as protectants for vinyl, I swear by this stuff called Rolite's Premium Protectant. It was originally made to protecting the vinyl in airplanes. www.pacificpilotproducts.com John
  6. Search using 'Tesa Tape' on e-bay and you'll find lots of people who sell it.
  7. I looked and didn't find any usable 230mm backing plates. Sorry. Like ncbbird says above, probably wiser to go with the E21 250mm upgrade if replacing the backing plates. Easier to find the E21 parts like good brake shoes, etc. anyway. Ireland Engineering sells a nice kit for this. Good luck, John
  8. Danz, Let me look in my stash of old parts. I might have some used stock (230mm) backing plates that are functional. If so, I'll send them to you for the price of shipping. Will look tomorrow and post a pic of what I find. I'd go with new ones if I was going through the trouble of replacing them though. It was a PITA, at least for me. John
  9. New backing plates are still available from BMW (~$50 each). If you decide to replace them, then you'll have to undo the "bitch" nut and also pull the hubs. I did that on my '74 tii a couple of months ago because the adjusters were all buggered up. BRAKE CARRIER LEFT 34 21 1 101 750 BRAKE CARRIER RIGHT 34 21 1 101 751 Good luck, John
  10. Saw this on ebay this morning: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-2002-Alpina-/291420952550?forcerrptr=true&hash=item43da0ad7e6&item=291420952550 '69 2002ti
  11. Yes zzzmmmzzz is a great seller. I've bought an overdrive 5 speed and also a 3.91 LSD from him in the past. Both parts were top notch.
  12. Those rims look great. I've got the stock 5Jx13 wheels on both of my tiis too. Love those tires. Are they 165/80 or 185/70? John
  13. I ordered one of the recommended 4LW vice grips. It's a cute little bugger. I didn't realize how small it is, but that makes sense. Worked like a champ. I have a Hazet flare nut wrench which I think is a very good one and the 4LW worked better. Thanks again for the tip, John
  14. Yes, the E9 coupes have a similar bottom bolt canister setup, but the canister is bigger and takes a different filter element than the ones for the 2002. Many folks change over to a newer style top bolt canister from the later 5 series cars because the bottom bolt canister can be a little harder to change. I use a big zip lock bag around the canister to catch the oil once the bottom bolt is a little bit loose. Then just drop it in the bag. I think the old style canisters look cool.
  15. Yes, there are two different types of tii rear emblems. I guess earlier cars used the shorter badge. Not sure when they switched over to the bigger one. I thought that all round taillight cars used the smaller emblem, but my '73 has the bigger one. So I have a brand new shorter badge hanging on the wall in my garage.
  16. COOP nailed it. I remember removing these from beneath my seats on the '73 tii when I had them recovered. They clip onto the springs under the seat pads. I'll have to check, I may have saved them somewhere in my stash of old parts. I'm a pretty good pack rat. I'll let you know Paul.
  17. Excellent. I bet that baby is going to sound so nice when you fire it up
  18. All of us here in Cali won't be laughing when we have to buy our water from the hearty northerners
  19. Big Sur coast back in January...
  20. Aren't there also some little white rubbery inserts that you put into the holes in the door that the green clips go into? It's been a long time since I've done mine. And I think I remember that there's one weird clip #54 41 1 808 209? per door for a total of two? They're clear or white and go somewhere up toward the top of the panel? A lot of times they are missing because people leave them off the panel entirely. John
  21. Thanks for the advice. I had the same problem where even when using the correct flare nut wrenches, it still wanted to round off the nut. I just placed an order for one of those 4LW vice-grips. Thanks, John
  22. Your tii looks killer. I recently put the stock bus wheel back on my 73 and love it. Keeping it stock is fun. TIP: If it's still got the original linkage piece going to the KF pump (with nylon linkage ends), try to salvage it or don't mess with it. Those are better than the newer replacement metal linkage end pieces for that one linkage. The replacements for the others are fine. That one is special.
  23. They definitely don't make 'em like they used to...
