    Read the FAQ on rebuilding the heater box. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/73/32/ Find a good doner heater box and rebuild it using good proper parts (new cables, pressure checked or rebuilt core, and a good non-leaking valve, new BMW hoses, rubber seals and clamps) Not sure if they have more, but I bought a couple of the little bolts (Heater Valve Cable Bolt at Valve) from Jaymic in the U.K. recently. http://www.jaymic.com/shop/parts_02_products.asp?grp=02CO&page=5 Take your time on the rebuild. Do it right you'll be glad you did. Then install in your car on a weekend when you have time.

    Also check to make sure that the heater valve isn't the one leaking. I thought that my heater core was bad. Turned out that the heater valve was leaking and the core was OK. I'm still glad I took the heater box apart and rebuilt it. --John

    Great read. Yes, 1974 tiis came with a vacuum advance distributor, at least in the U.S. they did.

    Do regular 2002's use brake pad shims? Adding them has helped stop squealing on my cars. These are the tii ones. Probably a different part number for a non-tii.

    these can really ding a board up, They pissed me off as a kid! I would never even use them if someone gave them to me. Get Thule or Yakima (but the bar is round) Thules have a flat bar!!!! I'm with you. Those old racks are only for someone whos anal about period correctness ;-)

    The NAPA metal wiper blades are still available in both 15" and 13". The NAPA part numbers: WIP 601537 for the 15" blades ($13.49 each) WIP 601337 for the 13" blades ($13.49 each) Not sure if this link to the 13" wipers will work. Search for Classic wiper blades on NAPA's online store. The picture of the blades on NAPA's website is misleading.     Bay Standard brand surfboard racks were very common when I was growing up as a surfer during the 70's. There's a set on e-bay right now for $275, ouch! I've been using Yakima racks on my 2002 for surfing and windsurfing for about the last 15-20 years. I bought my Yakima racks at the Outdoor World in Santa Cruz. Here's a picture of the old bay standard racks:

    Looks like you can still get them from BMW: MIRROR HOLDER Part#51161832567 You will probably want to mount them using the proper cage nuts. I don't have the part number for the cage (captive) nuts. --John

    Per the Pertronix documentation sheet that comes with the unit, you need to connect the +12v connection of the Pertronix before the ballast resistor so that it is always supplied with the full voltage. I've been running mine that way along with the stock 1.8 ohm ballast resistor and red coil for years.

    Thanks for the info Mike. I've got a nice set of real Scheels in my tii. I've been told that the head rests on my set might not be the correct ones. I've been thinking about contacting NML Depot to see if their headrests would fit my seats. Time to send Gerrit Blankman an e-mail I guess... --John

    I like that black corian shift knob and the flat prototipo steering wheel. Too bad you couldn't get the corian knob threaded so that it would screw on. Looks killer, --John

    My tii has a quick ratio steering box and I swapped out a 360mm Momo Prototipo for a 380mm wheel because with the quick box you need even more leverage to steer easily. And I'm only running 185/70 13 tires. Love the look of the Prototipo in black. Wish they still made them in 380mm or even 400mm. I've seen a flat version of the Prototipo that I think is 370mm or 380mm, but don't know where to get one.
