I am the original owner of my 74 tii and I put 205,000 miles on mine before doing a restoration. Only routine maintenance done during all those miles and it still had the original clutch in it.
I am the one who was stupid enough to install new ugly speakers to replace the original ugly speakers. Being a purist is annoying. When I bought the car new from VOB BMW in Bethesda in 1974 the car came with a Blaupunkt radio and Blaupunkt speakers. When I restored the car I couldn't get the original speakers so I found ones that looked just like the originals. The only good thing about the set-up is that I didn't have to cut out any large holes for speakers. Cutting into new upholstery would have killed me .
Thanks. Yes, I am finding that out. I have checked everywhere. I posted in the parts wanted section also so maybe someone will have a used one for sale.
+1 on the shift boot experiment. That is exactly what happened to me. Once the new rubber shift boot was removed it stopped popping out of gear. I replaced the rubber boot with a soft leather one. Problem gone.
+1
Hagerty has been very fair with me....I had to send them pictures before they agreed with the value I put on the car which they then agreed........very easy and cheap yearly costs.
I had Korman rebuild my 74tii motor. It has been about 4 years now and it has run perfect. I am extremelly happy with it. As said above, he costs a little more but it was worth it. I am sure you will enjoy the results.
