  1. Hey Codfish.... the setup for the red car is H&R springs and stock everything else... The wheels are Rota 15X7 with 205 50 15 dunlops and the flair is actually a patch panel from BMW because of rust. The red is actually brought back from really bad oxidation by Mcguires utimate compound. I hope this helps Happy Motoring !!!!

  2. OK 72 golf you got me thinking if it sounds like a duck....your right a lot of things under the hood make a ticking noise and they all have their own familiar sound so I started the car and put my hand all over the exhaust manifold because the ticking sounded familiar I just couldn't feel the leak. As it turns out it is a torn exhaust manifold gasket. It's leaking from the gasket closest to the fan making it sound like a fan issue.

    Thanks for the insight.

  3. Hello All... I have a strange ticking coming from under the hood the other day it was a slight sound today it's loud and I am just baffled I did a search and I used the advise to check the exhaust gasket for leaks... the fan blades for clearance.... and the valves all OK. Normally pretty good with the diagnostics but not this time..... There's a ghost in the machine !!!

    Thanks for any help.

  4. Driving thru Banstable on Cape Cod yesterday and just took a random right turn to drive and see the water and there she was a beautiful blue roundie. Kind of like a needle in a haystack. Does she belong to anyone here ?

  5. Well hello Mr. Miller I just went out to the car to take a look at the valve cover nuts and if what happened is what I think your saying I would remove the valve cover and new gasket place a cloth over the valves and then see if there is any of the stud sticking out. Get a good pair of vice grip plyers and try to back the stud out that way. Keep it simple before drilling.

  6. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound it's $ 10.00 you won't be disappointed !!!!

First wash your car well .... dry it .... apply the compound... wipe off with a cotton towel... then wax the car with a wax of your choice this step is very important because if you don't the oxidation will be back pronto. Let us know how it turns out.

  7. Hello All...

when I purchased my 71 2002 the PO gave me a patch panel for the right rear fender that was from BMW doing a forum search I see that some of you have used them. I was wondering if anyone has every used an epoxy to install it. It seems to fit right over the rusty bits that I will sand and clean up before installing with the epoxy any thoughts welcome.

    Thanks, Dudley
