  1. Thanks all. The information posted thus far has been great, and has helped me organize my argument with my insurance company So far, USAA is having their 3rd party adjusters (CCC) re-evaluating my car as we speak. I have a follow up with them on Monday. Currently I've been printing duplicates of every ad I can find as suggested earlier. I also have every issue of Roundel from 2010 with classified ads for 02's. I'll update as I receive more info.
  2. Yea, I've been with USAA for about 13 years, and have always thought the service was great. However in hindsight, I'd definitely go with a company that will provide an agreed value option. If I'm not salty after this ordeal, I'd still use them for any modern car I may buy, but for an 02 definitely shop around.
  3. Thanks for all the replies, all the suggestions are great. I especially like what you've done in the past Barry, and will definitely go that route. So far on the phone they seem adamant about the market value of my car, and keep saying that their price is "set in stone" contrary to what I "feel" my car is worth. What I really want them to do is repair it, but they keep insulting me by saying the car isn't worth what I "think" it is. There is no way I'm going to let them off without a fight. USAA keeps referring to the "7 distinct local markets" they use to determine value. From what I understand, it's a database of 3000 + inspected dealer vehicles at 20+ dealerships, and a 1,000 privately advertised vehicles per market (Norfolk, Martinsville, Richmond, Lynchburg etc.) I find it hard to believe that they can comprehensively put a value on my 1602, based on dealerships that probably haven't had more than a handful (if that) of 2002/1600's on their sale lot within the past 20 + years. I expressed my concerns with their database, and they said. If they don't find vehicles within the normal market, then they expand out to other cities, and states. So perhaps, out of state comparisons are not out of the question. Anyhow, I'm ranting now. I'll update in the future. Perhaps the info will be useful to other FAQ members in my predicament in the future. Anyhow, I'm up for the fight.
  4. Agreed! I inquired about agreed value with USAA when first insuring the car and was told they only offer agreed values on cars with antique plates, and since I used it as a daily driver, that wasn't an option. Being a member of USAA for so long, and being satisfied with there services I stuck with them anyways. I should have shopped around some more. Now I'm kicking myself for that move. Lesson learned I guess.
  5. Thanks John. It looks like I'm going to be battling with USAA on this one. I've saved those same craigslist ads. The more I think about it the angrier I get. Jason
  6. Im hoping anyone in VA can provide me with some help/advice. On the 18th I got into an accident with my 71 1602, which left the nose panel, hood, ps fender and radiator smashed. My insurance company (USAA) is now totaling the car and are only agreeing to a value of $1,900. Of course I'm upset, and when asked why they priced it so low, their answer was that was the price range of similar 02's that have sold for within my state (at dealerships and private sellers). I asked if they could compare prices nationally and they said it was against VA state law to do so. Does anyone have any links to 1600's or 2002's in the state of VA that have sold recently or are currently being sold comparable to the condition of my beloved '02? Any advice. I've never dealt with insurance companies before, and have been a member of USAA for 10+ years without any accidents. Below are links to my "project" blog, and a more recent photo shoot. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,353632/highlight,/ http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,339727/highlight,/ I'll post images of the damage a little later, still waiting on the picture to upload.
  7. Here's one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-BMW-2002-EURO-STRETCH-/260744318314?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3cb5928d6a#ht_500wt_1137 Shock towers look kinda scary.
  8. I may be interested. Waiting on usaa this week to either total my car or repair it. If you have more pics please email them to: jason@noahlarmz.com And I'm semi local. (Norfolk)
  9. I read a few months ago on the Japanese Nostalgic Car website that an 02 is in the new cars movie. Still havent seen it yet tho in any promo.
  10. Yea! I'm right there off of Redgate. I see that tunnel traffic everyday and I'm glad I don't need to go thru it.

  12. Thanks for all the comments! I'm really happy with the GF-1. I really don't know how to choose the correct SS and F-stops, but the manual mode (which I was using) makes it really easy to experiment. As for the LYNX set up – I'm really happy with it. Originally I had a 32/36 on it and loved it, but my girlfriend ended up buying me the LYNX set up for Christmas 2009. After getting it jetted properly I can say it was a huge difference in comparison to the old Weber. I let my friend with a 69 Datsun Farilady (with dual Mukuni's) and he said (by the seat of his pants) it feels really close to other dual side drafts he's driven. Highway driving is a lot less stressful now, the response I get in high rpm's is great. Stop and go is a bit more stressful however, but not so bad where I'd think about going back to the 32/36. It just wants to go fast all the time, so I pay a bit more attention than I used too. Never been in an 02 with a 38/38 so I can't compare it. As for the motorsports roundel on the hood. I bought one of the vinyl decals Lee was selling and put it over my old Roundel. Used a blow dryer to make more pliable. Elan - I was just browsing thru your flickr last week and was thinking the same thing. Future plans, are to get rid of the Alpina reps, and go back to 13's. ATS Classics or Minilites (13x8)
  13. I got a little bored at home and decided to try out my new camera (Lumix GF1). I'm not a photographer but I think they came out nicely. Anyways we all like pictures of 02's so here's some.

  15. Funny thing, I've never seen this movie and during the first 2 minutes I had a feeling Id see an 02. Few seconds later there was a Chamonix one in a street shot. If this has been posted before than sorry. Tried searching first, and ended up empty handed.
  16. I like Lou a lot, and wonder who convinced him that this was a good idea. Anyhow, here's another "Wrap" video with an '02 in it. Appears at 2:07, 2:29, and 3:34.
  17. When I was younger I always had two fields I wanted to work in: Art or Medicine. My first real career move was joining the Navy at 19 and becoming a Hospital Corpsman, my first duty station (1999) was with 1st Battalion 5th Marines (which caught me off guard cause I always wanted to be on a ship like my dad.) In 2003, I rotated to the Washington Navy Yard in DC where I enjoyed working on a rig as an EMT, because it was exciting and the guys at the firehouse were cool. When I got out, I had enough of the medical field and switched over to studying art. Got my BFA with a concentration in graphic design. Even before graduating I had already designed tee's and products for companies like Stussy, Oakley, Reebok, Clarks and more. Which has been a dream come true; however my military service is what I look back upon and feel proud for doing.
  18. Just thought I'd update. I got in touch with Comp Cams, and Im still confused. This is what I was told: "The specs on the card are accurate and that serial number is given at the top of that card. Your duration @ .050 is 199/199 with a 112 degree LSA" If I do end up using this head, my setup from the current stock E21 head will be utilized: Single 45 DCOE w Lynx manifold, Tii Dizzy, Crane XR700, and IE shorty header.
  19. I had this 1602 saved in my image files as one of my favorites. Can't wait to see more pics.
  20. I actually live in West Ghent now, since Im going to ODU. But if you ever need a helping hand (though I'm not very handy) with your project feel free to contact me. I don't want to cloud up your project blog. jason @ noahlarmz dot com
  21. Look forward to seeing more pics. Are you located in Virginia Beach?
  22. I have an e12 head (rebuilt with only 50mi on it) with the intake port & polished. It also came with a reground cam from Comp Cams; however, I don't know how to read the cam spec sheet. Can anyone help me out with a translation? Is this cam comparable to a 292, 300, etc? Thanks in advance. BTW: it's not installed.
  23. + 1 on checking to see if the alt belt is tight. That was my issue last week.
