  6. Yea, I just spent 20 minutes clarifying with their "Live Help" for what was exactly for sale here. Anyhow, the partsbin has both mufflers for cheaper, tempted to buy it, but will hold off. http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?N=9164&Nr=OR(AND(make:BMW,model:2002,year:1976),AND(universal:1))&Vi=1580+9689+4294962946&y=1976&mk=BMW&md=2002

  10. Car looks great, the color is awesome. Can't wait to see more pics.
  11. Thanks for the advice so far. A few more details. The temp gauge stays in the normal range, and I was able to drive it still. No leaks anywhere, and no fumes or gasses are seen or smelled. I just had it towed anyways, cause I didnt want to damage anything further. Prior to this happening, its been very reliable. Hadn't noticed any changes in driving characteristics prior to last nights event. It had always started right up, and still does. Only thing, like I said, its very loud (like air is escaping somewhere, a loud puttering noise) and it shakes "semi-violently"...maybe I should say it rocks in the engine bay a lot more than normal. Anyhow, Ill start looking into all your recommendations over the weekend. This forum really is the most important tool in my 02 box. Edit* All the electrical is still working. Lights gauges, stereo, etc... My "Battery Charge" light on my instrument panel has been on for about a month, but my BMW repair shop said that it's charging when I had the car looked at a couple weeks ago.
  12. The members of this board always have great advice, so I always come here first when something goes wrong. Ha. I wish i didnt have to tho'. I tried searching for solutions, but I really had no clue of what key words I should be using. The car is a 71 1602 with an E21 (76) motor. Anyhow heres my problem. Heading home last night on the freeway I noticed that my engine sounded louder than usual all of a sudden. I immediately pulled to the shoulder, and I swear it sounded like an old very loud lawn mower...puttering and what not. I popped the hood, and noticed that the engine was shaking semi-violently. Looked around for any leaks of any kind - none. Everything seemed to be in place. I let the engine idle for awhile, and it cuts off about two minutes later. Any ideas? Im not mechanically inclined at all, but if I can get a rough idea of what to start looking at, I can start looking for needed parts. Thanks in advance!
  13. Saw a good looking 02, Malaga red I think with fogs and a zender like air dam, on Hampton blvd today going toward the naval base around 4. I was tempted to bust a U an get a closer look. I was in a bikal 1602. Anyone on here? Nice car!

  18. yea felt around the engine when i got home, and a stud is def missing on the 4th manifold. Thanks for the help all. PS: P.O. put the Bud can there, the original reservoir is sitting in the trunk. Thought it was funny, so I've kept it for now, was going to switch it to a green can for sh*ts and giggles.
  19. K.I.S.S. = Keep it simple stupid? lol My boss tells me that all the time. Thanks for all the replies, a lot quicker than I thought. I now feel more relaxed at work, not thinking of the worst. Thank god for FAQ and it's members.
  20. Hello all, newbie here and to older cars in general...Im hoping someone might be able to help me out here. While traveling down 64Eeast to work I noticed a large plume of white smoke coming out the back of my 02. I didn't notice any difference in how it drove, and noticed no unfamiliar noises. In general the car runs great every time I use it. Anyhow, I pull over immediately pop the hood, and notice smoke coming off the headers from an oil leak, I then check the asphalt and notice maybe 8oz of oil on the street. I have it towed home, and start it up once more just to see if I missed any unfamiliar sounds, starts right up, engine idle seems to sound normal. Total run time about 30-40 sec. After -- I take a look on the drive way, and there is a good amount of oil on the ground. (picture included below.) Im hoping I just need to replace my gaskets. Im unable to fully check out the engine (at work now as I write, plus Im not really sure what Im looking at.) So my questions are (don't joke me!) 1. Is my engine a 2.0? The PO didn't really know much about cars either, and I bought it from him assuming I just bough a good running 1602. The block is stamped E21, with a date of 76. Im sure it is, I just 2nd guess myself on things I'm not familiar with. 2. Is this the head gasket set I should be buying? Since I should probably replace them all anyways. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-HEAD-GASKET-SET-2002_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQhashZitem29feedf5f3QQitemZ180370666995QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQQsalenotsupported#ht_1542wt_866 3. If the block did crack would it still run like it does? (I'm hoping this is not the case.) 4. Recommendations for a shop to take my car in the Norfolk/Hampton Roads area? My engine bay after incident Stamp Pictures taken quickly at lunch of general area I think leak is coming from. Found this in the oil leak on the asphalt Oil soaked towels... TIA Jason
  21. I sent an email if these are still available. Jason

  23. I kinda hate to create a thread like this, but I spotted a yellow roundie with turbo flares and air damn in the Ghent section of Norfolk (21st Street.) Its a rare sighting in my city, so I just wanted to make a connection. PM me if you're on here. Jason
