You could look for a E21 320/6 or 323i head with the 200 casting and bolt everthing up ok and there should be a few of those around for cheap over there. If you feel inclined you could grind the ports out to match the L-jet inlet manifold and you will be good to go. I know the M20B23 731 head is not common in the US so that is probably the best bet for little money rather than fork out for an M20B25 885 head.
In the long run you will want to go M20B25 motronic and if you have the 272 cam, look for a M52 E36 crank from a 328i and that drops in sweet, use your 2.3 130mm rods and you will have a mean M20 that will blow the 2.3 into the weeds...220 bhp!

I'll swap the calipers over and try a re-bleed. Didn't even think to check for left and right calipers-Doh! I'm new to the 2002 and E21's only ever had 2 pot calipers..but I have some volvo 4 pots going on and will be extra vigilant. Thanks for the help

I have been fixing up the brakes. Having trouble bleeding. I can pump up a pedal to get the brakes to work but see very small bubbles in the reservoir. Is my master cylinder shot? And does it make a difference if you have the calipers swaped over either side ie nipple at the bottom pointing down.

These look as if they will fit into the strut of 1974 2002. The tube diameter is the same and appear to be the same length. Before I pull apart to check, can anyone verify if they will fit?

Picked up a 1600 and the VIN is 1552121. RH drive registered in New Zealand. Anyone able to tell what year this is?
Thanks

Can you tell its 9:1 by those piston tops. I thought Tii's were 10:1?

Greetings. Just purchased a 1974 2002 and 196? 1600. The '74 is complete and rust free. The 1600 was stripped to restore and the shell prepared ready to paint. All the parts are there and judging by the condition of the seats was in good condition. Yet to pick up the engine and most the parts so I will concentrate on the '74 to start.
I have just finished a E21 to 2.7i Motronic conversion using 11:1 CR eta block mated with a 325i 885 head. Very impressive torque and power.
Now time to concentrate on the 2002 and 1600. With the purchase I also grabbed an old 1978 E21 316. It has an M10 with E12 head. The '74 also has an E12 head.
From what I have researched so far the E12 heads off the E21 320i and Tii 2002 have larger valves and are the ones to look for?
I was considering an EFI upgrade as E30 318i's are easy and cheap to procure and the head should mate up..any suggestions/comments?
Before I strip out the E21 are there many parts that can be used on the 2002 or 1600?

Are these a bolt on for the 2002?
They are advertised as originally on a Fiat 124 and look very similar to the solex side drafts if have seen on this forum. They are going cheap so worth grabbing??![{option}](//www.bmw2002faq.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
