  1. Any ideas on how much vertical travel is acceptable on rear mount for long neck diff??
  2. Or find closed end 17 /19 mm wrenches from early six cyl BMW trunk kits.
  3. For first problem I agree with stuck disc. Start car in gear, punch gas a few times or apply brakes hard. For David and 5 speed, which throw out bearing did you use?
  4. I turn the wheel while tightening the nut. Spec calls for 18 ftlbs as I recall. Then back off, etc.
  5. I'd start with the gas tank/pick-up strainer. Shien a flash light in the tank to look for crud.Either get anew sealer ring or let teh old one sit for 24hrs
  6. That was inspiring, but I was thinking more of your rendition of Hank Williams....
  7. Could weg'r perhaps make a sound recording of his rendition so we can be sure?
  8. be sure to clean out the holes in the subframe - use a wire brush on a drill to clean off rust and grunge. Helps the new ones to slide in square. The plumbing pieces and threaded rod technique works great.
  9. I should have one here in Ottawa. I'll look tomorrow.
  10. My understanding and experience is that 2.5-3.0 psi is optimum for DCOEs.I used a pressure gauge to verify output. My car would not be happy at 4.0
  11. E21 320i pump is sourced from UK, because Rockauto only has "euro" car application for that model/year. Same for E30 318. So $60 shipping. Bizarre. BMAparts wants 400.
  12. So did anyone have to pay $60 shipping at Rockauto to import from UK?
  13. Hence my question. I'd never heard of punching in the old one. I'd use a dental pick to pull it out so new one will sit properly. As I understand it, this can be done with tranny in car.
  14. Which later oil pump can be modified to fit 02 motors?
  15. I believe the ti advance setting was based on having a ti distributor, and using the high octane leaded euro gas available at the time. Maximum advance for ti in Haynes is 39 deg, which is a lot today.I don't see how too much advance would cause these symptoms, but from what I've read of late, the idea is to get full advance of about 33 deg at about 3000. Fuel pressure regulator should be about 2.5.
  16. A dumb question I'm sure, but why are you trying to drive a new one on top of the old one?
  17. do you have a fuel pressure regulator? Some folks say essential, others say makes no difference. My car won't run smoothly without one. Also, 30 deg adv at 2000 rpm seems a bit extreme - try full advance at 3000 rpm.
  18. See if you have a marker pin on the front.
  19. I am told that modern lock nuts are fine - use a fresh one.
  20. see if there is a pin on the front timing case. Otherwise you may need to make one to do timing off front pulley. You may be able to use one of those fancy timing lights = I still haven't figured out how they work
