  1. UPDATE: Brought the 633 home 2 nights ago. I have posted a few pics below. Car turns over nicely but wont start. No spark to the plugs or from the coil. Me being absolutely lost on this car, I am not quite sure what to do next. If it were the 1600, no problem, with this, not so sure. I know the sensors are plugged in & I have seen many posts on the E24 forum about different relays causing problems and such. Have to get a Bently manual and do some more research. But the car looks Great! Will keep you posted.
  2. Finally got the E30 basketweaves on the 1600! Sumitomo 14" tires to go with it.
  3. Nice! I've said it before, that is one lucky dog! Here is my newest co-pilot in her first ride in the 1600! Meet Lola, just a year old!
  4. Ok. Here are a few pics I was able to take last night.
  5. Thanks to all for the responses. I appreciate it. I guess my problem really boils down to: Do I really need another car? I have my 1600, will never get rid of it. I have my 318ti autoX car, not going anywhere. 2000 528i daily driver and a 68 mustang, restored & very nice and I never drive it (260 miles last year!) I like the e24 coupe very much and would certainly be more willing to drive that than the mustang. That being said, the value of the Mustang just keeps going up, up, up and I am not sure if I want to sell it to make room for the 633. There is no body and minimal interior work that needs to be done on the 633, and I just have to decide if I want to work on it in my garage (and on my back - I'm getting too old for that stuff!) or not. Thanks again for all the help! Will keep you posted! Joe
  6. I know this is not an E24 forum but I value the opinion of our FAQ members! Plus I have a feeling my situation has presented itself in one form or another to many of you. I have an opportunity to purchase a 1982 633csi, 5 speed, 150K. It has been garaged and not started in 5 years. According to owner and his mechanic (who is also the mechanic at the indie shop I use) I was running perfectly when he parked it (Due to health reasons). It has been in a climate controlled garage with concrete floor for those 5 years and is sitting on wheel dollies. The body & paint was done on the car 6 years ago by a reputable local shop and appears to be a quality job. The paint itself looks brand new. The wear on the interior does not show that it has 150K and is quite good. Tires look to be in good shape and I can find zero rust anywhere. Motor is all original and looks clean. Saw no oil stains/drips on the garage floor. The owner just wants it gone and wants to sell it as is. My question is: do I take a stab at this without even hearing the motor turn over? His price is reasonable, even for a car that is not currently running. Our mechanic has taken care of it for approx. 25-30 years (owner is the 2nd, bought it in 1984) and says it has been well maintained and ran very well before it was parked. Should I really insist that I try and turn it over & try to start it before I buy or just take it and hope for the best. I know I don't really want to try & start it because the gas is 5-6 years old and I don't want to muck up the fuel injectors with funky gas. Should I do something like disconnect the coil and fuel line & hook up a battery just to hear it turn over? I know I am going to need to drain the gas & pump out the fuel line if I purchase it. Does anyone have any insight into what the potential values of these old E24's are? I know they have not jumped in value like the 02's over the past few years but could they? ( I know I can answer that one: maybe; maybe not!) Any information/suggestions that you may have will be greatly appreciated!
  7. I ran into that 2002 3 or 4 years ago at the vintage weekend in September at the Glen. It participated in the parade laps around the original 6.6 mile road course on public roads. I have pictures somewhere.....
  8. That is Awesome! Good luck with that E9! Great story & ending. I am struggling with a decision to sell my 68 mustang that I have owned & restored over the past 20 years. I don't have the emotional attachment to it that I have with my 1600 and my kids (23 & 21) don't either but I am thinking that, 20 years down the road they may have wished I did not sell it for the very reason that you described above. Enjoy!
  9. This is the 1600 at the museum I was referring to. I remember just standing there & looking at it for a long, long time and my family wanting to get moving, after we did, I just kept circling back to it! That is what your 1600 reminds me of!
  10. As I said before, I think this is one of the nicest 1600's I've ever seen. It reminds me of the 1600 on the floor of the BMW Museum in Munich, it is that well done. Hopefully in my old age I will be able to do a complete restoration on my 1600 and make it as nice as this one. My problem is nothing is very original on my car as it has spent its entire life in upstate NY and was a daily driver for the first 17 years of its life. Lots to do on it but I am hoping that someday it will look as nice as yours! Congrats on a job VERY well done & good luck with the sale!
  11. Wow! Very nice. I guess that's the difference between a California car and a NY car! Will be interested to see what it sells for. Very nice original representation of a 1600. You don't see a 1600 like that very often....if ever.
  12. OK, I know I am going to get blasted for this, but I have a tendency to compare my 1600 to my '99 318ti. Just like the way the M44 revs (up to 7000 rpm now that it has been flashed by Barrie at Midnight tuning, plus it is set up for autocross). I have an '02 E46 and its nice, fast, and fun, but not nearly as fun as the 318 and nowhere near as fun as the 1600. The E36 318ti is kind of a mix of a car with the rear suspension that is closer to an E30. When I am working under it, it reminds me of the 1600. When I rate all of the cars I have owned, the 1600 is still my favorite of all time and the E36ti is right behind it. I am hoping I will be driving the 318 in 20 more years, it really is a blast (and quite versatile with that hatchback!)
  13. I know I've posted this one before, but its still my favorite! Rikka in the drivers seat, Renner as her wingman. (Rikka passed away 3 years ago this weekend) Can't wait to get the 1600 out and get Lola trained to ride in it!
  14. Renner & Lola Approve as well! (Sorry I don't have a pic of them in the 1600 yet, its still in storage, a good thing too because we had 3-4 inches of snow last night & the salt trucks were out!)
  15. Nice Picture! Now you need a White one to go with the other 2!
  16. In upstate NY, especially in the Finger Lakes Region (near several salt mines), we use salt like, well, salt! The roads in my area are WHITE! It is supposed to be 70 here today & tomorrow and in no way shape or form will the 1600 make it out. We still have the possibility of snow all the way through April and even if there is a report of snow coming, out come the salt trucks. The 1600 will not come out here until the end of April/start of May and we have had SEVERAL good rains to wash the salt off. For those who live in areas without salt, have fun! For me and the 1600, hibernation lasts about 2 more months! (at least I have the autoX car to work on & drive on nice days!)
  17. Also forgot to say that yes, the diff will work in an E30. The back half of the 318ti actually has more in common with an E30 than an E36. When I went to Koni Yellows for the 318, I had to buy front shocks for an E36 and rear shocks for an E30. Parts for the Z3 will also fit the 318ti. The platform for the Z3 and the 318ti are the same. A common upgrade for the ti is to put a Z3 Mseries rear sway bar in to help get the rear of the car to rotate better. 318ti.org is the place to go. See you there!
  18. As Mike said earlier, about the only thing you could use from a 318ti would be an M44 conversion. Nothing else will work. I autocross a 99 318ti and there is absolutely nothing that swaps over. You might be able to use the front seats but the brackets for the ti seats are vastly different than the 02 and you would probably have to fabricate something to make it work. As suggested earlier, post what you have on 318ti.org . I am a member there was well and that is a much better site to sell, buy, get info etc for the 318ti.
  19. Andersson, You always come up with the best! I will have to have my dad sift through his archives to see if he has any more of that Tobin Special. That is a very nice car!
  20. Here are a few from the Glen in the Mid '70's Not sure where the 2002 is though.
  21. Unfortunately, I had no records from the PO. Again, at the time I had no idea what I was doing or buying and it never occurred to me that 30 years down the road there would be so much interest in it. Heck, I remember sending for parts by mail! Looking through the Roundel and trying to figure out what the exact parts were I needed! My My how times have changed! (Am I really now the old guy standing on my porch yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off my lawn?)
  22. According to the PO (I am the 2nd) She had said she bought the 1600 in Vancouver. When I did the record search a few years ago, the archives said it was imported to Hoffman in NY (Like most others) Could a car imported to NY be then delivered for sale in Vancouver? Now this was in 1985, I was 18 years old when I bought it & probably was not paying attention to what she said. She may have said she bought it & drove it to Vancouver. An interesting side note though, the headlights on the 1600 are flat, not convex like most that you see, it had these 2 little convex plastic bubbles on the outside of the lights that just kind of floated between the light & the grill. I of course, didn't like them & pitched them out when I bought the car. Anyone know if that is a clue as to whether it was a Canadian car or just a different option?
  23. Wow! Very nice! What vintage events will you be attending? Any chance of making it to the Glen in September? It is a very nice event with around 350-400 cars and an awesome festival in the village on Friday night. Would love to see that turning laps at the Glen (By the way, the track was just finished being paved in October and word is that its as smooth as glass!) Wow! Very nice! 24. I finally got my hands on a set of e30 basketweaves for the 1600. Now I have to decide if I really want to use them or find a set of steelies from an e30. I really would like a set of alpina/campangnolo/borrani but know they are pretty much out of my range. A new clutch may be in the future as well.
