  1. Buckeye, Good luck with the transmission rebuild! In my many trips to Lexington, I have yet to see an 02 there! Good luck to your son on his finals and in his next semester.
  2. http://motorsportsoflexington.com/ Motorsports of Lexington on West High St. Link to home page is above. I am from upstate NY and my daughter attends UK. When she took our E39 to Lexington I did my homework to find a good Indie that would help her out if she needed it. Visited the shop, talked to the owners. VERY good place. Check out the reviews on bimmershops.com. They have helped my daughter out a few times and I feel very comfortable with her having that car so far from home with that shop there. Not sure of their experience with 02's, but I am assuming they could work on it. If you are in Lexington it shouldn't be to hard to check it out. Good Luck!
  3. These 2 stickers, The Motorsports & CCA, were put on by me when I bought the 1600 in 1985! A little faded today but I still like them.
  4. 2002 325Ci 1986 MR2(For sale if anyone is interested) 1999 318ti (M-Tech, Autocross Car) 1968 Mustang 289 Not Pictured: 2003 BMW X5 4.4 2000 528i 2005 Mini Cooper S
  5. Not sure if this is a really rare item but I don't recall ever seeing one like it before. The steering wheel is around an inch in diameter smaller than the original plastic one. Horn is in the center, spokes are painted black metal (unlike the original wheel where there were 3 button on the spokes). The wheel itself was painted black foam that I covered with a wrap about 25 years ago as the paint was flaking off. Cant really remember where I got the steering wheel but I liked it because it was smaller in diameter and pretty cool looking. Does anyone know a little more about this type of wheel and if it is a rare find or not so much.
  6. OK, It's update time. mfguilbault was unable to make it to the Watkins Glen area to pick up the 2002. (though not for a lack of trying!) So it is still available to anyone who would like to make a trip with a trailer and winch to pick it up. Just a refresher: Heavy rust, not a candidate for restoration, Many good trim/grill parts. Interior OK, Glass good, motor/trans/diff were all strong when parked 12 years ago. Also have various parts to go with it such as extra head with 1 bbl carb manifold, steering wheel, at least 6 hubcaps. Again, I think there are many parts here for the right person, first come, first serve, I don't want it to go to the junkyard! I am also not interested in parting it out. All parts go with the car! The vintage race at the Glen is this weekend and if anyone is in town and interested in taking a look at it, please let me know. Thanks!
  7. Did this once with my mechanical fuel pump on my 1600. Removed the plastic spacer between the head and the pump, sanded it down on the pavement, reassembled & was enough to get the fuel pump going to make it home & change. I guess it has something to do with the diaphragm in the pump, the shorter spacer allowed the pump to work better somehow. I had heard about it a long time ago, did it a long time ago as well, but it worked for me!
  8. WOW! That is one loved dog! Enjoy the rides with her!
  9. Yeah, there was not much I could do with it. He parked it because of the rust and I was in the middle of the 2nd restoration on the 1600 as well as just starting the resto on my mustang. The car originally belonged to my brother who had moved to DC and left it for my dad. Too many irons in the fire for me at the time. Tried to get a few people around the area that I knew to take it but no one was interested.
  10. I just couldn't let it go to the crusher! That car has been in our family since 1979! Its the car I learned to drive standard on and the thought of it being crushed was just a little too much for me. I figure someone on the FAQ would have some use for some of it and I feel much better about it if the car can be of use to someone restoring or fixing other ones. I will post with more information as we go along. Thanks to all for the interest!
  11. I need to get rid of my fathers 1973 2002. It has been sitting under his deck for the past dozen years or so. I have taken a few parts off it but a lot of it is still there. Engine, trans, diff are all intact, all of the glass is there & decent. Interior is musty but intact. The reason I am posting here is that I don't particularly want to sell it. He was looking at paying a local junk yard to come take it away. I told him I might be able to find someone willing to come & take it. He said fine, no charge, just come & remove the entire car. So I am looking to see if anyone on the FAQ is interested. As stated before, it has sat for a long time and is beyond restoration. There are many parts that are useful to the right person. The car is located in Watkins Glen, NY. We would probably have to wait a few weeks until the ground around his house dries out to be able to pull it up the small hill next to his house. You would need a winch to get it up this hill. Attached are several photos of the car & the area it will need to be removed from. I am not really interested in the parts as I try to keep my 1600 as close to a 1600 as possible. Please let me know what you think. I am thinking it would be on a first come first serve basis, but knowing how far away we are from civilization here in upstate NY, that may be a problem. I am not interested in parting any of it out. If there is no interest for the whole car, I will have it removed to a junk yard. I was just hoping that someone here may have some uses for it.
  12. I like the steelies from the E30. I have the old style steel wheels from '74-'76 and am not crazy about them. They look good and are period correct (mostly) but I think the other steel wheels look better. If anyone has a set hanging around, I am looking to change to the E30 steelies!
  13. "Wedding Bell Blues" by the 5th Dimension. Not one of my favorites. Was hoping for something a little better like CCR, Beatles, Who, etc. (At least it wasn't the Carpenters!)
  14. Wow! That looks almost exactly like my 1600 when I bought it 30 years ago! Same faded Granada paint, same rips in the seats, same wear spots in the carpet, same cracks in the dash, same trunk interior, same faded roundels. For me that is like looking into a time machine! It looks pretty solid but I am wondering if the price is a little high? $5,500 for one that needs that amount of work. Its going to need a lot of cosmetics like brightwork, upholstery, etc. Definitely worth restoring. This is what it might look like if restored! Hope someone on the FAQ picks it up!
  15. So sorry about your loss. I share your loss. The picture in my avatar is my beloved Rikka. She passed away 2 years ago last week. I still find her hair in the 1600 and drive my wife nuts refusing to vacuum it out. I just cant bring myself to do it. Best wishes to you and your family. Picture below is Rikka the day before she passed away.
  16. I know the '70's came with it. And I know Paul knows, so yup!
  17. Uh, actually I call mine the "16" or the Bimmer.
  18. Meet Renner! In his favorite spot in the e46! Check out my Gallery under my profile. I have a few pics of Renner and Rikka(RIP) in the 1600. Rikka LOVED the 1600, if the window was open, she would jump in & sleep in the backseat for HOURS! The only way to get her out was to take her for a ride! We all love our canine co-pilots and would do anything for them. Nice to see there are others who will do whatever it takes to make sure our buddies are comfortable and able to travel with us. Looking forward to getting the 1600 out in the Spring so Renner & I can do some driving!
  19. Dave Nicholas in a 1600ti built by Autosport By Jiri in Vestal NY. Lime Rock 1973 (still haven't found any for the Glen yet)
  20. Andersson: YOU ARE THE MAN! Thanks so much for posting that link to the Tobin Special. Can't wait to share this with my dad. He was a teenager at all of the street races in the Glen between 1948 and 1952. He will be pleased to read the history on this special car and know that it is alive and well! I wouldn't put it past him to try & get it here somehow for the Vintage Festival we have every year. I know the picture below is not a BMW, but interesting none the less. It is Sterling Moss in the pits at the 1960 USGP at Watkins Glen (the inaugural race at the Glen). Still need to get to the International Motor Racing Research Library in Watkins Glen to find some pictures of 2002's that raced here in Trans -Am during the early '70's.
  21. Well, after a little more research, this car, posted in an earlier picture, was called the Tobin Special and was said to have a BMW engine. Still looking for the driver of the car and an actual picture of the engine.
