  1. I too am struggling a bit with it but I understand why it had to be updated. I just keep plugging along and figure out a little more each time I visit. I hope we don't lose anyone over it! This is my favorite forum by far! I also belong to 318ti.org , e46fanatics ,and Xoutpost, they are all good, but just not the same as here. So I will keep going and eventually I am sure I will figure it out.
  2. I have a 70 granada 1600 and a dark blue 68 mustang coupe. I am in upstate New York, Finger Lakes Region. If you have any need in the area, let me know Mustang 2.bmp BMW1.bmp BMW2.bmp
  3. I have never seen an 02 with a california roof! Was that an option or an aftermarket addition? Does anyone here have one? I have the California roof on my 318ti & it is really cool, but I can't imagine how cool it would be on the 1600!
  4. So glad to hear you are OK! Cell phone use is a pet peeve of mine also! In a recent trip from upstate NY to Philly to pick my son up from college, almost every person I passed (it seemed like anyway) was on their cell phone, not paying attention to what they were doing. I know it is not against the law in PA but it is still unsafe! Plus there were just as many in NY where is IS against the law. Please dont talk or text while driving! It is not worth it.
  5. Thanks again to everyone for your support! I struggle with missing Rikka everyday & will have a tough time when the 1600 comes out. Rikka was the one who loved to ride in that car the most. My kids like it but my son is more interested in his e46 and our e36 and my daughter prefers the mustang. When I was out working on the 1600, Rikka was always lying around or in it. If I needed to test something out in it, she was always with me. When she would jump in it, the only way to get her out was to take her for a ride. When we pulled back into the garage, she would jump right out! Thanks again everyone! Have a great spring! Joe
  6. Thanks so much to everyone for your thoughts and well wishes! I truly appreciate the support. The pup in the 2nd picture is named Renner. (he was only about 16 weeks old at the time & his ears had just popped up!) Rikka was attempting to impart her love of the 1600 to him & we will make sure it happens this spring when the 16 comes out. Thanks again to everyone & keep your best friends riding with you! Joe
  7. It is with great sadness that I have lost my co-pilot of the last 11 years. Rikka, the older of the 2 White German Shepherds in my 1600, was euthanized today due to a very aggressive form of cancer in her abdomen. Her favorite car to ride in was the 1600. Sadly I was unable to take her for one last ride in her favorite car as the 1600 is in storage. I have attached a few other pictures of her in the 16. Please take your co-pilots out on a nice Sunday drive on Easter in your 02, they will appreciate it, and so will you. I will miss driving her around town and the back roads here in upstate New York, and watching her jump through the open drivers window to take a snooze in the back seat. Please enjoy your time with yours while you can! Happy Easter!
  8. Very nice! Reminds me of some of the back roads around here in upstate NY. I will have to do a GoPro of the original WG road course. It is still all public roads today & is on the national historic register so that it cannot be changed. I of course, will have to wait another 2 months to get the 1600 out of storage. Great Video!
  9. If I am not mistaken, did'nt the original 1600ti come with 2 single bbl carbs? I saw and article for it once years ago. I am looking for it & will post if I find it. Has anyone else ever heard of that set up for the 1600 or am I just off my rocker? (again!)
  10. Did you bring that car to the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival around 5-6 years ago when BMW was the featured marque? I see the little sticker on the windshield. I have the same one!
  11. If you are just switching one for another, there should be none needed. I swapped mine around 20 years ago & if I remember correctly, I just disconnected everything, dropped the tranny down & put the other one up & in & reconnected everything. I know there is probably more to it & there may be some gaskets, It was such a long time ago & I really only remember that it was pretty easy & straighforward.

  15. I love working on the Ti, It reminds me very much of my 1600 from the underside. It is great for almost any use. I can knock the back seats down & put in both dogs, make a trip to Lowe's, or haul branches/compost (in bags) to our compost area in our village. Plus the California sunroof is cool! Then after all that, my son & I use it for autocrossing, it is a blast! It really does remind me of the '02's.
  16. For me its an E36(Ti-don't laugh, I love it), E46(Son's car), E39(Daughters car), E53(Wife's X5).

  18. On the contrary! It has everything to do with 02's. It is another rescource to find parts or service in a pinch. As stated before, there are a couple of guys there who were part of the original BMW dealership. They know 02's and have helped me out on more than a few occasions. It is a possible rescource for people in upstate/central New York and northern Pa. I know there are great places on the org for parts & info, but sometimes you get in a tough spot & it helps to have any info you can get.
  19. I stay away from the stealerships as much as possible. I have a great Indie here in upstate New York. I know the reputation of ALL the dealerships in Rochester, Syracuse, & Bingamton (Endicott). Gault Auto Sport has by far the best repuation. Yet I will only go there if I have to. Gault Auto Sport was once known as Autosport by Jiri. A true BMW dealer that started in the 1960's. Before they were sold to Gault, it was the BEST place to have work done! If I am not mistaken, one of the mechanics from Jiri's still works for Gault. I know one of the managers there was the Parts man for Jiri's. He is the one rebulding the touring. He is the best & knows it all. When I really get stuck, he always has the answer, when he can't answer it, he goes to his mechanic in the shop. Yes, if you are in upstate New York, stay away from the dealerships. In a pinch, use Gault in Endicott, they still have a few guys from the old days!
