  1. Front brakes are the same on 1600's & 2002's, Rear brakes on the other hand, are different. The drum size on the rears are 1" smaller on the 1600's so if you are looking for rear brake parts, make sure you specify they are for a 1600. I have had many local parts stores try to pass off the 2002 rear shoes for a 1600's. Good Luck!
  2. David, Thanks for the info, I will look into it in our area to see if any of our distributors carry it. Joe
  3. I have used straight 40w dino oil since 1984. 1600 now has 175K on original motor. Started with Kendall GT-1 then had to go to Valvoline when Kendall was no longer available. I could probably use others but that seems to work well. I think it is really up to what modifications have been done to the motor and your personal preference. As stated here earlier, the older motors seem to like the dino oil. (My whole motor is original, as in everything except plugs and oil & still runs great so I stick with what I have always used). Good Luck!
  4. I was never one for naming, my son & daughter however like to do it. My 1600 is called "The 16" The 528i that my daughter drives: she calls it Sebastian, the 318ti? My son calls her "Sophie" The wife's X5 is just called "Mom's Car". We have a new to us 325Ci that does not hav a name yet and My '68 Mustang is referred to as: "Are we going to sell it yet?" (everyone in the family wants to sell it to buy something else like an Alfa(Wife) 3.0 (Me & my son) Z3 (Daughter). Guess who will win in the end? Anyway, Its a personal decision & one that can be fun! Good Luck!

  6. Have had the Ansa on my 1600 for well over 20 years. Of course the car is garaged & never sees rain anymore, ( I don't drive it too much either). The one I have is not very loud, maybe they were made a bit differently back then. I just drove an Alfa Spyder with one on it & it was WAY TOO LOUD for me (It was a new system). I like the one I have but it is all up to your own taste.
  7. Rikka will sleep for Hours in the 1600 if I let her. Thanks for all the other pictures. Love seeing other members dogs with their '02's! Keep them coming!

  9. Put in a NEW fuel filter, I know you cleaned the old one, but if the car had not run much before you bought it the junk in the gas tank will be stirred up & may foul the filter again. Also check your vacuum lines & try to find a new D-Cap. I had an awful time getting mine to stop stalling, turned out the D-cap was cracked & eventually fell off as I was setting the timing. Also check your fuel pump. If it is not creating enough suction it will starve the carb & engine. Good Luck

  13. One major difference between the 1600 and 2002 are the rear brakes. The 1600 has shoes & drums that are 1 inch smaller in diameter than the 2002. (Ask me how I found that one out). You will be able to find parts on the forum for the 1600 rear brakes. Feel free to contact if you have any other questions. Welcome & Good Luck! (How about some Pics?)
  14. I am 46, Bought my 70 1600 in 1985 at 19! We are at 27 years together and she is STILL my favorite car to drive.
  15. There are some key places to look at for rust: Rear shock towers are obvious, also look at the front shock towers. See if you can pullup the carpets to look at the floors. Escpecially in the front around the pedal box. Look under the car where the front frame rails join to the unibody at the front floor boards. Underneath in the back where the rear suspension is attached to the unibody. Also down in the engine bay where the front frame rails are located. If you see rust in these places, count on MAJOR dollars to fix. Some other areas include rockers, spare tire well, front fenders, bottom of doors. Those can be cheaper to replace but you can still run into money. It is all about how much you are willing to spend & want to do. I've been there & done that! My 1600 has excellent structural areas that have never been touched (that does not mean there is no rust there), but I have replaced the front fenders, both rockers and the rear wheel arches twice, and the bottomhalf of both doors once. Part of the drivers rear floorboards and small areas of the hood and trunk lids. Been painted twice & after the second time, I retired the car to nice days in the summer. It no longer even sees rain if I can help it. That has really helped to preserve the 2nd restoration that was done about 15 years ago. Good luck & post some pictures if you have the chance!

  21. Are those original 2002 bottle cap alloy wheels?
  22. Make sure you replace the condensor along with the points. Another Distributor Cap & Rotor might help also. On my 70 1600, I had problems with the fuel pump & got a suggestion from a buddy that if I am on the road & the fuel pump fails, remove it & the plastic spacer, sand down the spacer some on the road & it may help the pump create a little more pressure. Never had to try it but if I were stuck & could not get the car moving, I would try just about anything! Good Luck!
  23. 70 1600, Built in Nov. 1969. Came with side markers both front & back but when I replaced both front fenders years ago, I went without the front side markers.
