  1. My brother did this for me about 35 years ago! Still hangs in a prominent spot in my home office!
  2. I did exactly the same as NYnick, left it on my driveway for several hours, became nice and pliable. Then used a pick and utility knife to locate and cut holes. That carpet set is the BEST! Makes the interior look so good now. Thanks again to esty for providing them for us!
  3. Thank you Steve for all of your hard work to keep this site running and being my best resource for info to keep my 1600 going! Cheers! Joe S
  4. Steve and his crew are the best! My go to place to source parts for my 1600 and 633!
  5. Lola about to go for a cruise in her 1600!
  6. For years and years, I used Kendall GT-1 30w. Always very pleased with it, but no longer available. Have been using Valvoline VR-1 20w-50 and straight 30w when I can find it.
  7. Also came with all of those reflectors and side markers, as well as the larger front turn signals.
  8. Early '70 1600. VIN 1570472, amber dots. Manufacutre date mid-late November 1969.
  9. SWEET! congratulations Mike on another happy year with Ludwig! Great to see how well he looks and even greater to see how well you take care of him! Merry Christmas & have a wonderful New Year!
  10. A few more from today. The last one was from the T/A 2 race. A bad day for someone!
  11. Some pictures of nice stuff from The Glen today! The last picture is my 1600 sitting at my sisters house that is on the original 6.6 mile course around the village. That is where we watch the re-enactment from every year! Plus an extra for Ray, Taco Pizza!
  12. Alexander, love the story! Some similar experiences to mine. Bought the 1600 in Spring of 1985, daily driver for 3 years or so then I had it painted and didn't want to drive it in the winters of Upstate New York. I went through a period when I was younger (much, much younger) where I left the front bumper off as well. My nephew has been exposed to the 1600 his entire life, he loves old cars as well and has had a couple of old triumphs in the past. He knows how to handle the quirky nature of old European cars. So when he asked to use it, I was more than happy to lend a hand. It also forced me to address some issues I had been dealing with for years. The below picture is my nephew and his bride leaving the ceremony. The second is the 1600 in my bumperless phase. That one was taken before my nephew was even born. Cheers! Joe
  13. Unfortunately, that is how I met my college roommate who became my best friend. He had to return to New York State from college because his father had passed away. I never found out how until about a year later when I was working on my 1600 in his driveway, I had done the stupid and crawled under the car with it on a hydraulic jack. He went off on me, yelled at me and told me NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! It was then that he told me how his dad passed away, working on one of his cars, the jack failed and killed him. To this day, I have never been under a car that is not properly secured. So sorry for you loss. My condolences to you and your family. Please be safe everyone.
  14. For the first time in about 25 years, I took the 1600 for an extended drive/ weekend! I drive it around town all the time in the summer, usually 20-30 miles at a time. My nephew wanted to use it in his wedding in Rochester, NY so I tuned it up, changed the fluids, flushed the radiator etc. Made the 100 mile drive like a champ, no problems! Used it in his wedding, then the 100 miles home. Ran great all the way! Averaged 27 MPG overall, city and highway miles. Picture is at the Genesee Brew House for lunch on Sunday. Love driving that car!
  15. Thanks Mike, so what I actually did was hook both power wires through the firewall, one to the fusebox #6, the other to the starter motor. Ground is to the heater box. Works fine. I just wasn't aware there were extra power terminals on the ignition switch. Have a great day!
  16. Just hanging loose. I removed it so I didn't have a hot wire flopping around under the dash. Thanks so much for the help, I really appreciate it!
  17. If I have another power source, can I just unplug that wire from the ignition switch? PO, some 50+ years ago, added an aftermarket rear wi dow defroster, it has been unhooked since I've had the car (1985), wondering if that's where the extra wiring came from. Thanks!
  18. I was wondering if that ground strap was stock or not. Esty, I have the radio powered and working, it's just that one wire off the ignition switch that's puzzling me. BTW, the carpet looks great!
  19. jg, It appears I have all of the wires from your diagram, plus that one extra black one coming out of my switch.
  20. Sometimes you look past the most obvious! I had checked the fuses and they all looked ok...so I just changed them and have everything back. Thank you for getting my brain out of neutral. I still am confused though. For the life of me I can't figure out what the 1 black wire from the ignition is or the ground strap. Could it be possible that the ground strap goes from the heater box ground to another ground on the body somewhere? I dislike electrical work... probably because I am terrible at it!
  21. In trying to hook up the radio after installing Esty's new carpet (it looks awsome!), I have these wires that I can't figure out where they go. 1970 1600, 6 fuses. One Is black and in the first picture I am pointing to where it is plugged into the ignition switch. I mistakenly thought it was a ground wire and attached it to the ground near the heater box. I got an unpleasant surprise when I turned the key on! Obviously it is a hot wire and I have no clue where it goes. I have lost the headlights, wipers, fan, fuel and temp guages as well. Car still starts and runs fine. There is another small gray wire that goes to the fuse box, #6, I had that hooked into the red wire from the radio that said it need to be hooked into the fusebox. Attached to the black wire coming out of the ignition switch I pointed to earlier is a ground strap, I am assuming one end goes to the heater box ground but no clue where the other end goes. I have been searching but haven't come up with anything yet. If anyone knows the mistakes I have made or where the wires go I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help! Joe
  22. Sort of looks like one here in upstate New York!
