  1. Mike, Love the picture of the original delivery of you 02!
  2. Slavs, thanks so much for the info! I knew someone would have the full story on this system!
  3. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=2511-EUR-11-1969-114-BMW-1600&diagId=34_0807 In the link above from real OEM the diagram shows 2 different reservoir options. My 1600, had a build date of 11/69 and uses #4 with the warning system. So it appears that some.came with it and some without. Btw, the florida green is not.mine, I was just looking for a.picture with the reservoir in it. This is.mine:
  4. This is from a 67 1600 and you can see the single reservoir at the bottom of the photo. It has only 2 hoses headed to the master cylinder. The plunger is in the reservoir and when it loses contact with the cap, the red dash light comes on. Now on this picture I dont see.wires attached to the cap. On mine there is either 1 or 2, so I am.not sure if earlier ones (before 1970) actually did have a brake warning.light. it is possible the 69 did not have one, that would explain the lack.of wiring for it.
  5. The 1600 never (to the best of my knowledge) had a hydraulic clutch, they were a mechanical direct linkage. If you have a reservoir on top of the master cylinder and another clutch fluid reservoir, a PO must have changed.from the original. My 70 1600 has the.mechanical clutch and.a single reservoir. It has a plunger in the reservoir that, when the fluid level is too low, will turn on the round red warning light on the dash. My dash and instrument cluster is all original and I have never.been able to do a test or have a small button near it. So to answer your question, yes there is a brake fluid warning system on the old 1600's but.it sounds.like yours.may have been converted.to.a.different system ( maybe from a 2002?). What is your vin and.do you have any pictures?
  6. +1 on more touring. I know the E36/5 is not well liked but I love mine! So much so that I picked.up a 2nd one this past summer. The silver one has the fun motor!
  7. Sold for 26,750. Considering it being unrestored and the color, I thought it would go for around 30K.
  8. The Atlantik 1600 on BAT listed above is ending within the end half hour. At 21K last time I checked. Will be interesting to see the final price.
  9. Ok. Here we go for what looks to be an actual 1600, looks to be from Italy originally. Have not had a chance to really go through the pictures yet but will be interesting to see how the 1600 values compare to the 2002's. (at least for me!) https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-bmw-1602-7/
  10. I just am not sure what to make of this. I was thinking 70K, tops. I was watching the auction and when it hit 82,002, I could not believe it. Is a 72 tii really worth that now? I realize is is an excellent example, but in my opinion not perfect, and for me to pay 102K for a tii, it would HAVE to be perfect. I think I have to agree with Nick, if I am paying that much, I think there are other cars I would like before a 2002 tii. However, is that where we are now? Will this be commonplace for 2002's? What will that do to the value of other, run of the mill ones? It will be interesting to see over the next few years.
  11. Steve, my 1600 is # 1570472. Nice to see a Vin# close to mine. Wish I had my original window sticker, but alas...no.
  12. Yes, I can see the difference, not much but I just thought it didn't look quite right. Thanks for the picture & the info!
  13. My son sent me this link last night and was wondering what it might go for. I was thinking 60-70,000 range. Really nice example but not perfect. I am not familiar with the Atlantic Blue color but that one looks just a little off. Am I just seeing things or do others see it as well? Hope it does well! And LOVE the wheels on it!
  14. Well it should be Granada of course! That is the BEST 02 of all time, a 1600 painted Granada Red!
  15. I am thinking I may try to make it out there this year. The only question is: Which one to take?
  16. Found the VIN off my old one: 1572717. Built sometime between Jan-March 1971. All I have left of it are the motor and the transmission. I had also forgotten that there were only 13000 1600's built in all of those years. Kind of makes me wish I had not written that one off back in the late '80's. Well...hindsight is 20/20...
  17. I had a 1971 1600 back in the late '80s. Mainly as a parts car. Still have the motor and the transmission is currently in the '70 1600. I will have to check the motor to see what the VIN is. The shell is long gone. I had to put it in a guys "yard" just outside the village of Watkins Glen (just off the original 6.6 mile course). Paid him like 20 bucks to put it there and.he let me go up and take parts off when needed. Unfortunately about 10 years later, I saw my car being towed on a flatbed through the village, went up to the "yard" and all of the 30-40 cars that were there were gone. I was not too worried as I had already scavenged just about everything I could from that '71 1600.
  18. I am pretty sure the first thing I ever did to the 1600 waaaay back in 1985 was to remove the silly bumper "extras". They bolted to the top of the bumpers and extended across almost the entire thing. They were rusty (like the rest of the car) but I hated them and removed them almost immediately. Then replaced the clock with a tachometer. I watched Villeneuve's win at the Glen in '79, in the wet, it was truly amazing to watch how much faster he was than everyone else! He was, and still is, my favorive!
  19. Score! Hope to see it at the Glen in the future!
  20. https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/146585-classic-car-classic-rock-whats-your-driver-song/?do=findComment&comment=1141650 Just heard the sad news that Neil Peart passed away today from brain cancer. I think he (and Rush) were mentioned several times in the above thread. I have great memories of blasting around the original 6.6 mile road course in Watkins Glen in the 1600 with Red Barchetta playing as loud as it would go. If you have ever had the pleasure of driving around the course, it was almost if the song was written for it. I would try to time it so that I reached the old stone bridge on the course when the song hit the point of the one lane bridge. Bummer of a day. RIP Neil and godspeed!
  21. Very nice Mike! Congratulations and have a Merry Christmas! Hope to meet up with you again in Beavercreek in the New Year!
  22. My current co-pilot Lola. She also enjoys rides in the 1600.
  23. My daughter and her service dog that she was training while at the University of Kentucky at The Glen 6 hour race in 2106.
  24. In a sad bit of irony, 2 years ago today I also lost my co-pilot Renner, pictured here when he was only a year old. We ha a lot of fun cruising in that car together.
  25. In 1985, I paid $1100 for it. Not much to look at but the mechanicals were great. (And still are pretty good). Other than regular maintenance, the only things I've put in are a new radiator, alternator, and guibo. Motor is the same as it was 50 years ago. And I loved to take it home with me! This pic is about 5 years ago before the E30 basketweaves.
