  1. Rob, It isn't the first incorrect part I've found on this car, and probably not the last yet. But, I've got to mention one thing that surprised me in a good way. PO had told me engine was rebuilt about 7K before I got it. But, odo was not working, so not sure how accurate that was. Now in the past 3K miles that I've put on it, it has only consumed 0.25qts of oil --> practically zero. That must be a good indicator. Byas
  2. Finally got it done yesterday. Removed the old plug with a breaker bar. Here's a pic of the old and new (on left). The new has many more threads. Is this the right one -- and the old one incorrect? (what's it from?) Byas
  3. I thought OP was asking about the black rubber 2-piece "guides" that the rod passes thru -- part #41615480155 and 56. Byas
  4. I think it's by the relays next to the brake reservoir. Try connecting a ground wire from one of the 3 motor mounting nuts to one of the 4 screws on the cowling that holds up the hood locking rod.
  5. I'm considering converting my 74 to the smaller bumpers. Is Bluebeem's solution the only "kit" avail? Is there a way to contact him? Byas
  6. Esty, Have you checked for connectivity from coil to condenser with an ohm meter? There could be breaks in between that may not be readily apparent.
  7. I think there is that trim ring for H4buckets on the plastic grill cars only (model-73 on).
  8. If you are getting this pattern __/ __/ , then you have it right -- that's what it should be. The low crisp cut off on the left side is to prevent the opposing traffic from being blinded, while the upward distribution on the left is to light up road signs.
  9. That puzzled me too as the bumpers I'd seen in pics were either all holes or all slots 17 of each and none were 15 slots + 2 holes. But, that's not to say that such a beast did not exist. B
  10. Mike, When I think of H4s, I think of a headlight pattern being distinctly like this: __/ __/ These Bosch ones from Bug Depot are really motorcycle lights. I could not get that crisp pattern from them and there is an annoying black spot that makes the throw somewhat non-uniform. Now in fairness, my car has had its nose impacted and due to to the quality of repairs, it was challenging to get the headlamps properly aligned and that might contribute to the non-even distribution. But by shimming up the buckets and enlarging the holes that buckets mount in I was able to get a reasonable alignment and a more uniform distribution. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate these as 6-7 vs. stock at 3-5. So, they are a reasonably cheap upgrade, but not necessarily the best. But, that's just my experience and possibly others can chime in. If you're interested, I'd be willing to post some pics of the light pattern put out by these lamps. Byas
  11. Any chance you have the part number for the bolt?
  12. Yes, that pic shows the difference -- one has holes for bolts and the other only has slots for clips. The parts diag only shows the clips version. So, what's the part number for the bolt that's used on the round holed version? I thought it could be #22 in the first pic the CD posted, but I now think that's the bolt to hold the side piece to the body of the car.
  13. Not being able to pull out the seat belt is not related to the seat belt interlock. That's a seat belt reel issue. Byas
  14. I'm toying with going to the Euro/pre-74US bumper on my 74Tii. I've picked up a used rear one. While checking for parts for it I noticed that the rubber strip is attached to this bumper with bolts, while other bumpers I've seen on ebay and on the parts diagram have slots (vs round holes on the ones I have) and plastic clips that go into the slots. The parts diagram does not show bumpers with round holes for the rubber strip or the bolts needed (which I need). How can I find the right part number for these bolts? And, why is there a different style than shown on the parts diagram? Thx, Byas
  15. The lens seal from 70s bugs will be much cheaper.
  16. I think it should be @2500 as well (at least more than 1500). Here's some advance curves for Bosch distributors (found this on web, not my own creation). 25deg at 2500 falls within the range. Byas[/img]
  17. I'm interested. Can you email me? Thx! B
  18. Can someone help with the part number for the red plastic cap for the steering box? The part that seems to be shown on the parts diag going into the filler hole seems to be called "adjuster" and then there is another one called "plug". The cap on mine is beat up and partly broken. Thx! Byas
  19. CD, Isee 2 diff part numbers on the Penske site. An M22x1.5 part and an AM12x1.5. What's the diff and which should I use? I also see 2 sealing rings -- one in Cu another in Al. Byas
  20. In the 2006 restoration done by BMW (of the 73 Tii) they painted the wheel wells black. Any thoughts on why? Just a protection -- or were Euro '02s or Tiis offered that way? Byas
  21. Well, it was a bust. I could not get the oil drain bolt off. I tired doubling wrenches for leverage, tried to tighten first, tried a wrench plus hammer. I've got busted knuckles, cut hand, but no progress on that damn bolt. It was beginning to round. So I stopped. Decided, I'll probably go to a local shop or Jiffy lube and get them to loosen in. Probably will buy a new one a sealing washer first. Since it was a nice enough day I decided to get some other work done. Installed the lock strip on my front glass. Car came without lockstrips on either end. Finally got the hang of the lock strip tool. But, after installing I found the wiper would not clear -- probably the URO gasket to blame. I pulled out the wiper linkage and removed the lock washer as a temp fix to give it an additional couple of mm. That worked. But, it ended up being a much longer day than I expected. Byas
  22. About to do my first oil change (for this car). I've got front wheels up on - engine cooling down. Does it drain better in this inclined position or should I jack up the back to get it more horizontal? Mobil Super 10w40 and mobil oil filter m102 (iirc) Byas
  23. I have a sender. I live in El Dorado Hills. Let me know if interested. B
  24. From what I've read those are good quality American made belts. I do not have any first hand experience. Perhaps Al will know. BTW, the actual bill of material cost of most belts is less than $5. Byas
  25. I thought I had seen in another video that they had patched that hole. I noticed this time that the wheel wells were painted black even though stock seems to have been body color. Byas
