  1. Thanks guys!! I should have checked first, but I thought I had read somewhere that it was NLA. Will order it. Byas
  2. I went the other way -- my '74Tii came with a custom exhaust that did not use the original hangers and rattled a lot. I cut of the hanger bits from an old exhaust, had it welded onto the custom exhaust and used the original hangers -- worked well. Byas
  3. The plastic cap on my QR steering box is beat up. I was planning to open the cap the check the oil level and top up, but am concerned that the cap will fall apart when I do that. Are these avail new? Or does anyone have a good used one? Thx! Byas
  4. Isn't 20w40 motor oil of same/similar viscosity? GL4 is hard to find the days - specially in small quantities.
  5. I noticed that the rear suspension had 2 shocks for each wheel. What is the second horizontal shock for?
  6. I need one of the brackets for the Behr AC radiator as mine is missing one. If you have this and are willing to sell me one, let me know (I can let you know which one) Thx, Byas
  7. CD, Thanks for the link -- I ordered the wrench I needed. I also need the tommy bar for the spark plug socket. Which of the 2 listed would be the better fit? Neither looks exactly like #11 in the diag you posted. Byas
  8. Anyone have extra wrenches? I need the 10mm-8mm one to complete my set. Byas
  9. The arms on my car (74Tii) were the original black but worn thru in places. I used brake cleaner spray to remove the black leaving behind nice chrome underneath. B
  10. Here's a graph that I found in a reference text which gave me a better idea on AFR ratios vs. throttle opening (air flow)
  11. Apparently that clutch is NLA. Later model from WuN needs thinner radiator as well. Any other alternatives to this Tom? B
  12. Will look at E28s as well. Thx for link. Will check it out. Another E3 has come up for sale: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/3276820870.html I spoke to the seller this AM. He says the engine has not been rebuilt and in his recollection when he did compression testing when he got the car a few years ago, it was 120+- across all cylinders. THis sounds low to me. He also said that it does not smoke even on startup. One issue is that the car overheats in slow/traffic driving conditions. He attributes this to the fan clutch failure, but I think the issue must be elsewhere. What are the common causes for this car? What would a rebuild on an engine like this run? (Range?) Thanks! Byas
  13. Solved the radio/turn signal problem -- rotating the fuses to clean the contacts solved that issue. Running hot when cold remains. This morning, after a short drive, once again the coolant temp was showing high. So, I stopped and checked. The lower bottom hose was cool while the other hoses to the coolant temp regulator valve were hot. So, it does not seem to be opening up when the coolant in the radiator is very cool. Time to change? B
  14. If it is reading correct at 35, then you have the right speedo for your diff. The error at higher speeds is just a limitation of the speedo (perhaps older weaker springs, etc). The error I had with the wrong speedo for the diff was in the order of 30% IIRC (a 3.9 diff on a 74Tii). I bought a new speedo of the correct calibration and it works perfectly now. B
  15. Thanks all! Decided to pass and look for another. This car interests me as apart from the looks, I like that I can take my entire family of 5 on evening/weekend drives -- something I cannot do with my Tii. Also, the Tii I bought came with undisclosed damage and don't want to do that again Byas
  16. Steve, As a former owner - -what do you think of this car? Can you email me your thoughts? Thx! Byas
  17. That was my thought as well, but the seller says not patched. Wanted pics to compare and have not found any yet -- even on e9 coupes forum.
  18. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/t,322446/highlight,/sid,1b9140f8549beb27ce4f1f2aee4b93eb/ Is this the one?
  19. I'm looking for reference pics of what the E3 Bavaria rear shock towers should look like. The one on ebay looks like it has work done, but seller says car came like that. I've not been able to find any reference pics. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/72-1972-BMW-BAVARIA-3-0-S-/370648013655?forcev4exp=true Thx, Byas
  20. I'm interested in a 72 Bavaria on ebay from Lexington KY and hoping there is a FAQ'er who might be able to check out the car for me or point me to someone who could do a PPI. Byas
  21. There are 3 codes above for Polaris Silver Metallic -- 57, 60, and 553. What is the difference between these? Byas
  22. Had not though about the exhaust air leak. I have a 421 header with joints where the 4 go into 2. I'm assuming only joints/leaks upstream of the sensor will have any impact and a leak in the joint just aft of the gearbox will not impact the reading -- or will it? Byas
  23. To me the rear side windows and rear windscreen look different from the Lumma convertible. The rear side windows almost look like glass -- that seems to meet up at the rear edge of the front side window. The rear windscreen shape is different.
