  1. I pulled the speedo and the needle moved when I turned the drive manually. So wondering if the longer cable was installed during the 5-speed conversion. Where on the tranny does the speedo cable hook up? Byas
  2. What is a Tii nose? What is the difference vs. non-Tii? Wondering how to tell what it is on my car.
  3. The speedo on my '74 is not working and I'd like to check it. Have the manuals on order, but it will take a few days. How do I remove the instrument cluster? Thx BN
  4. Finally got my '74Tii delivered today. Will try to determine in the next few days if I did ok or I got a turd. Body -- Polaris Silver. Looks straight. Have not found much rust yet. Only rust seen so far is in the wheel well where there is a dime size hole and surface rust. Paint is horrible and bubbling/flaking off. One are that I removed a big bubble (about 2 -3 sq inch area) the paint came off leaving shiny metal underneath. The hood seems to have Malaga under the silver but that itself seems to have been a spray with Malaga overspray evident. Malaga paint evident on one side of the nose panel as well. How can I tell whether the nose was replaced? The body is otherwise straight. Frame underneath looks straight. No signs of rust on the floors either. Shock towers, around the glass, etc seem ok. The engine apparently had quite a bit of work done -- here's the ad: Engine: Recent Rebuild (Approx. 5000 Miles) Bottom End Balanced Ireland Engineering 292 cam Ireland Engineering Dual Valve Springs Ireland Engineering 9.5:1 Compression Pistons New Mechanical Advance Distributor Ireland Engineering Exhaust Header New exhaust system (Header to Muffler) Ireland Engineering Aluminum Flywheel Battery Relocated to the Trunk Drivetrain: 1983 BMW 320i (Getrag 245) 5 Speed Conversion Shortened and Balanced Driveshaft New Carrier Bearing BMW 320is LSD 3.90:1 BMW E30 14" Bottle Caps Newer Tires Steering Box is very tight Interior: All Gauges work (with the exception of the speedometer) Aardvark Engineering Recovered Recaro Seats (Blue) BMW Floormats Dashboard mat Air Conditioning Parts (AC not hooked up) Stereo Wooden Nardi Steering Wheel with BMW logo (Horn Works!) BMW logo shift knob ----------- Is there a Sacramento area garage that member here from Sac would recommend? I'd like to get the engine and mechanicals checked out before I decide whether I should throw more $ into this car. I bought it for $4500. First timer here so not sure if this was a good deal or not, but it looks like it will need a full repaint and interior recovering/carpets. Thanks! BN
  5. It's on its way to my place. Will take pics once it gets delivered. Fingers crossed for now. B
  6. New owner here (expecting delivery of my 74Tii next week)... What are the recommended repair manuals for the '02? Haynes? Is there a factory/Bentley version? Other? Thx, B
  7. Bought a 74 Tii this evening. Need to get it shipped. Hopefully will soon get to enjoy the car and working on it. B
  8. Has anyone had a look at this car? Spoke to the seller and he has sent me more photos. There is rust in the spare well with some rust thru but mostly solid. Is that hard to fix? I've asked for close up of the bottom of the left rear fender which looks a bit rusty. Seller pointed out there is some rust bubbling up in the front left fender. Looking for my first '02 and am a bit concerned about buying without actually seeing it. (I'm down in CA). Hoping someone here has had a look. B
  9. Thanks all!! Will look for an 02 instead of the E9 coupe. Will read thru the faq and look for a good '02. There's a Tii in Sac that's been converted to a Turbo. Will have a look at that and a couple of others to and get some pics and seek opinion here. Byas
  10. Hi! I've been interested in getting a 60-70s bmw and am trying to decide between the 2002s and the CS cars. While I like the looks of the CS better, I suspect the 2002 might be a more budget friendly entry into bmw cars of this vintage. I'm hoping the members on the forum can give me tips on what I should look for or look out for while looking for a good 02 to buy. While I've never worked on bmws, I've restored a few other cars and am mechanically inclined. I've looked at some cars on 2002ads and Sacramento CL. Is there a good "buyers guide" online anywhere? Apart from mechanical and rust issues, I'm wondering on what options would be more desirable -- eg. tii or carb, earlier bumper vs. later, etc. Thanks! BN
