  1. I have never been in a E9 let alone drive one. The E9 is a stunning car but I'll keep my 2002 thank you.

Someone else can't answer your question, only you.

For me the 2002 checks almost all the boxes I need, from the great body lines to the way it handles back roads the car is a blast.

Honestly, when I drive mine the radio is off 90% of the time. I just want to hear it run through the gears. The car is almost perfect.

Hell every time I get in and start it,it makes me smile. Sometimes it even makes me young again.

  2. Nicely done for first time, welding is one of those things you either good at or your not. Looks like you have the knack for it.

Lucky for me I have a Son who is a very talented welder/fabricator,  so no worries if I every have to cross that bridge.

    Again well done.

  3. So I get my Recaros and pull the passenger seat, of course the slider is part of the seat and not original.

Mine has this bracket, is this a 2002 bracket or no ?

I have a set of the Massive Brakes mount. Looking at the Wedge bracket to replace the mount I have. Might be the cleanest way to go with what I have.

Pictures!  Did you get the Recaros from the guy in Thailand?  How was the process?

Yes, I did. He was very professional. Invoice, tracking numbers, insured them.  A couple other members have used him also with good luck.  I have seen his work before on other cars and they all looked good. It is a Sloooow process nine weeks on a ship seems like forever.   I will try and get some pics, I'm supposed to be closing my pool not goofing on the interweb. He is going to quit making them soon so if your interested better do it now.  He's  "recaroforsale"  on facebook.

Talked to the seller of this original owner 70 Atlantik last night. Allegedly all the significant rust has been mitigated / repaired, and sports a recent respray. Lots of records, lots of good memories and good vibe from the owner. Mechanicals are apparently sorted, newer Bilsteins.

Aside from obligatory underbody, spare wheel well and fender / rocker shots, what am I missing here? I love this color...

19.5k is pretty steep in my book, then I'm cheap.

Why not drill the wheel to larger holes on a 4*100PCD and used sleeved nuts?

On something like a BBS style you could get away with that. I'm looking at some Panasports and it would impact the spoke more than I

would like it to.  4x100 is very close to the center bore hole on a lot of wheels.

Plus I tend to overthink things. ?

  7. So i've been looking at wheels for my 73 2002.I would like to go with some sort of three piece wheel in a 15".

The problem is almost everything I  find is the 114.3 bolt pattern, not  the 4x100 that is standard. I'm seriously considering buying front hubs and getting them redrilled to 114.3

That would all that is needed for the front to work. Yes, No ?   Also would have the rear hubs redone to 114.3. I have rear disc brakes so if needed I would redrill the rotors also.

I don't think I need to mess with the rear axle/half shafts.  I would do a stud conversion also and lose the stud bolts.

question is I'm I missing anything ? or is this that straight forward.  I don't like the idea of the spacer/bolt conversion set up.

Thoughts , input or any suggestions on doing this or I'm I cobbling up a perfectly good 2002 hub ?

  8. I don't know if the market is soft. I kinda think it was more of a BAT bubble, where for almost two years every 2002 went for top dollar and then some.  I was looking during that time frame and 7k cars were listed for 14K it was crazy . People all thought they had gold.       A  2002tii just sold south of 50k, that's a pretty solid price  for a very nice car .

  9. Other people here posted cars from Oldenzaal and were warned that they should get a PPI.  I do think there is always surprises

when one purchases a 2002. I purchased mine for the the most part sight unseen.  I talked with the owner several times had

tons of pictures of the tear down to bare metal.  I put a $500. deposit down and showed up with a truck and trailer 1000 miles from home.  If the car wasn't close to what he said was I had the option to walk.  I would of lost my deposit and another $1200. in travel cost.

The car, lucky for me was in better shape then I had hoped.  It does have a lot of little things that are not correct, was some electrical, several washers and wrong bolts, bushings not installed  correctly.  The gentleman I purchased the car from was my age

I'm 63, he's a fireman who was awarded a medal of valor for saving someone's life. I felt we had a great repor in all are conversations.

He was honest about the car and we both did everything we said we would do.  Mine was a great experience, even the three days on the road.

Sorry yours turned out bad to be a bad experience. Most stuff look to be cheap fixes except the rust.

I'm always amazed what people say is no or minor rust.  i hope once you get settled in with the car it turns out to be the joy that these cars can be.
