  1. Thanks Nick,  There  is never any fuel spill just the odor  and I check it all the time. The smell is in the far right back corner I'm pretty sure.  I'm okay if I have to pull the tank I just want to wait till winter since in Michigan.

I put some fuel resistance rtv on it since new parts won't be here till next week.  I think its better, but it might be me just hoping.

  2. So I've been chasing the infamous gas in trunk smell.  I replaced both O-Rings and the fuel lines in the trunk.

I also found no check valve but just a coupler that was 3/8 but should of been 5/16 to 3/8.  I thought for sure that was the source. Corrected that with a check valve.

But still no luck. Only thing left besides the tank was the fuel filler rubber pipe and gasket.  The rubber pipe had a few very small hairline cracks, so maybe I thought.

I went to take the rubber neck off and notice the gasket was on the body NOT sandwich between the metal flange as shown on RealOEM.

I did order a new rubber filler pipe and gasket. I'm thinking this was installed incorrectly, see pic.

If someone can confirm what order the gasket goes I would appreciate it.  I think (HOPE) it's incorrect and this being my source of the smell.

Gasket is #11 and should be between the two metal rings.  Yes ?

  3. Worked on my gas smell in the trunk. Replaced some of the fuel line and added a proper check valve.

Their was just a coupler that wasn't the correct size so I was pretty hopeful that was my source, But Nooooo

I still have a mild smell.  The rubber fuel neck has a couple of very fine hairline cracks but at $80. I was hoping thats not it.

I plan to replace that and the gasket just to be safe.  After that I think I'm pulling a gas tank.

The smell is definitely from the fill corner. I did get in my trunk and smash my face every where around the tank.

New check valve  with correct 3/8 and 5/16 barbs.

Her estate was very happy that she did not, that paint job netted the estate 1.7 million at auction a few years back....go figure

The collector that bought it lives by me. The car is pretty cool in person.  It was purchased as a Birthday or a Christmas present,,  because they can.  ?

I see you have an excellent taste in colour as well.......love to see the rest of the car.

Thanks,  I need to get some good pics of the thing.   I don't think its anywhere near as nice as yours, but a very very good driver car.  It did win a Best of 1970's at a recent car show, that surprised me a little.  I'm a bit surprised at all the attention it gets on the road. People love it, I think its the color for sure.  I was looking for a Chamonix one.

They are a joy to drive and understand why so many people love them.  Brings back a lot of memories. Money well spent.?

Been wanting to do this for months, wanna share any info?

I purchased mine  from Moss Motors for $10.89. I just set them in the headlight bucket, but had to use a longer fastener .

I used an allen head  maybe 3mm longer, so far so good.  I didn't consider the problem of washing the headlight. Hmmmm ??

I do use an electric leaf blower to help dry the car after a wash so I'm hoping it will be okay.

I also purchased some of the old school Castrol stuff,  Tin Cup and oil can. I want the tool roll.

  7. Took apart my new to me black bezel instrument panel. Removing the glass is not for the faint of heart.Hopefully it all goes back together.  I cleaned and taped it off for some matte white paint on the back side, but of course I need to buy some paint.

Hopefully I can repair the odometer and get it all together this weekend.
