  1. Yeah, well we guess he's all right ......
  2. Congratulations! You have a great story and some great memories to share in the future. Beautiful 1600 ti and your painting is wundebar!
  3. My sister-in-law, Peggy McCarty was called upon by my wife to paint a portrait of Franz for me. Peggy used a photo I had shot along Kansas State Route 22 in June of 2017 as I was bringing the car to Ohio from its former home in Denver. Needless to say, I am more than happy to hang her painting on the wall. I am very pleased with her interpretation. She found Sahara to be a challenging color to match. She was concerned over making it too yellow or too brown. Bravo, Peggy! You might be able to persuade her to paint you one, too...
  4. Merry Christmas from Santa (my nephew Joel Chapman) and Franz!
  5. TMV2002: If you are interested in a day trip to Ohio, the RGB (Rivertown Gearbusters) would certainly welcome you and your 2002. We are having an off-season gtg on January 13th at Kreimer's Bier Haus in Cleves, OH. (Near Cincinnati) Look us up on Facebook... You'd also enjoy Cars and Coffee at FUEL. (Run by Jason Gipson and family; it's along River Rd. just east of Cincinnati.)
  6. I did not set out to get a near-clone of Ludwig, but my '73 Sahara is a very close relative, at least. I was thinking of holding out for a '72 Golf 2002, but Andrew Ganz tempted me with his well-treated '02, so I relented. HBD, Ludwig!
  7. Nice purchase! Keep us posted (including photos) on this very interesting early survivor. Any possibility of taking it back to a Manila exterior?
  8. I'm gonna need a cold shower. Want that Golf tii badly.....
  9. Besides watching out for rust, bondo and other evidence of poorly repaired accident damage, check out the previous owner(s). Their character (or lack of same) will largely determine how much care that 2002 received over the years. I look for evidence of proper maintenance over the decades. Sitting for a long time can leave the '02 with bad hoses, seals, belts, gaskets, fluids, etc. If it's been loved enough, and used enough, it usually turns out to be a good one.
  10. A tii clock was added to the dashboard. It is a very good-looking Sienabraun, that's for sure. Price still seems high.
  11. That looks super! Any flaws it may hold are very well hidden, my friend! Reminds me of my first 2002 for some reason.... Enjoy!

Announcing the annual RGB winter dinner/gtg at Kreimer's Bier Haus in Cleves, OH, on the western edge of Cincinnati. We have reserved their party room for: laughter, tale tales, making new friends, catching up with old friends, German food, fine beers and a fun evening in general. If you are planning on attending, I would recommend an RSVP on the RGB Facebook page, under this event. Open to all.

  14. Saturday night, January 13, 2018, we will have our annual off-season dinner gtg at Kreimer's Bier Haus from 6:30 - 10:30 PM. (6052 SR 128, Cleves, OH 45002) Unfortunately, I was let down by the service, food and atmosphere at Mecklenberg Gardens last January, so this will make amends. I dined at Kreimer's and I was impressed with their attitude, their food and their ambiance. We will be in their party room on the lower level. It is reserved for us with two servers and the banquet director attending to us. We will order off of their regular menu. They have many beers on tap,so the selection is quite good. We may also want to schedule ourselves a warm weather gtg there, depending on how well you all like it there. They have a large outdoor bar area along the river that would be ideal for a fair weather gtg/event. I have posted this event on Facebook as well. If you don't do Facebook, please respond here if you wish to attend the event. I will need a headcount for Erin the banquet person.
  15. Don't get into a 2002 trivia battle with Mike. You will lose in epic fashion.
  16. Never. I have used Independent BMW shops. I have bought a tiny number of parts from the dealer, but that was for the E46 coupe that I owned at the time...
  17. See you soon in NOLA! (a modern Mini for me on this trip to Louisiana!)
  18. I had a '75 Sahara 2002; now sold. When it sold, the emission control parts were long gone. It had a tii exhaust manifold and a standard exhaust system beyond that. It had a new Weber 32/36 carb underneath a stock air cleaner/snorkel setup. (original camshaft intact too) It had a 320is steering wheel, Mahle bottle cap alloys, H&R springs, Bilstein HD suspension, an added flag mirror on the passenger side and Hella H4 headlamps, so it looked pretty much stock -- big bumpers and all. I had the silly blacked out trim done away with along with the dark tint to the windows. I also removed the Wink mirror and the trailer hitch that it came with from Alabama. That was MY cup of tea, but when it was time to sell, it went to the first caller in a flash. You can do what you want with it.... Enjoy.
  19. The less-exalted eta-engine E30 is fun; it's cheaper than the 'is' version, too. Pros: Relatively cheap to purchase. Tell your wife or gf: "It's cheap. What's the harm? Come on, honey...." Very ruggedly built. The M20 is a very tough engine in either the 'i' or 'eta' variants. Safer than the 2002 in a crash. Much less prone to rust than the 2002. Parts availability is very good. Prices are not too bad either. More power/torque than the 2002. Better handling vs the 2002. 5-speed transmissions! LSD on many of them. Better ventilation, a/c. A great compromise between the older BMWs and the newer BMWs; a 'bridge' of sorts. More comfortable on road trips than the 02. - - - FUN. Cons: Will distract you from your 2002, your NK sedan, your CS coupe, your Bavaria, your E28, your E36, your E46, etc., etc. Will eat up the $$$ that you were going to put into your 2002. Will try to take the garage space that your 2002 had exclusively reserved.
  20. Thank you very much Steve! We should also be proud of the polite, respectful atmosphere that prevails on the FAQ. We certainly hear complaints about other forums that have problems with people flaming each other and generally acting foolish. We are in this 'affliction' for the fun of it. I am glad that people using the FAQ try to keep it that way: fun.
  21. Hi Don: I will be in BR visiting my brother during late October and early November. I can attend the gtg at Huck Finn's Cafe. I am hoping to catch a little bit of O'Fest while I am in the area as well. I won't have my 2002, but will have driven the Mini Cooper instead. (sorry no Taurus wagon this time!) See you soon.
  22. Sad. It will take a whole lot of work to get that 2002 sorted out and on the road again....
