  1. Horst is a good-looking 40-year-old. Congrats! I have a short list of names for our next BMW. Horst is not on my list, but it's a good name...
  2. Do you have the orig. radio unit? If it works, I might be interested. Thanks!
  3. Jake: I hadn't looked at your thread for a while. So, Sahara wins out! I wonder if it was special ordered in Sahara or if 1600-2's began to come off the line in this color by then? Very impressive what you have done. I like this one very much. I told Karl that I wanted to buy it, but unfortunately there was no way that I could. I drove it once and had a blast. I was in the lead with Karl chasing me in my '02. He was surprised how aggressive that test-drive became!
  4. I received the latest issue today. Many letters to the editor with congratulations for all the changes; one letter that was not in favor. Whoopee. I am not impressed with this issue or the new Roundel.
  5. (1) E30 (2) E28 (3) E36 (4) E39 (5) ?? Any idea? Even if you own 10 BMW's, I wonder: what is the most commonly held OTHER BMW besides '02's .... among this select group of owners, that is. I'm guessing it's not the Isetta, the 503, the 507 or the 700!
  6. Learning to drive using my dad's '72 Golf 2002. (back in 1975) That and the huge contrast between Dad's '02 and my sister's Pinto!
  7. My '02 spent many years in Birmingham, AL with its first two owners, orig. with a father and then with his son. I bought it in June, 2003 in Athens, AL. It needed some TLC: brakes, struts, clutch, window seals, shifter rebuild, guibo, brake master cylinder, etc. (and removal of the blacked-out trim which I did not go for) BUT there was very little rust to be found. Hope to see you in Eureka Springs in April.
  8. No clever tips or suggestions for Chris, but I am envious. Best of luck, Chris! Trip-related photos and blog entries to follow, we hope??
  9. Mine say that I don't mind driving older, slower, less exotic BMW's and that I fancy them in their original state, big bumpers and all... When I finally get Mary her E39, that will change the equation slightly.
  10. No, I don't deserve any thanks, so none is indicated. I am not a gearhead, but I certainly appreciate well-engineered automobiles. You will be busy with your new home and upcoming nuptials. I'll have to drop in on you when I head to OU for a visit with my son. Congrats to you and your bride-to-be.
  11. That's great, Kevin. Your '02 would have been shredded ages ago if not for you. These Bavarian beasts are TOO TOUGH to quit. How many miles has it gone all told? Amazing when you think of the numerous owners, so many miles, your famous trip from Calif. to Ohio (incl. Death Valley) and loads of autocrossing more recently. It is great to see Karl H. & Jason G. getting a well-deserved thanks on this thread! Great guys, naturally....
  12. That price along with that condition: not around here. That would get snapped up very quickly in this land of heavily salted roads.
  13. I told Mary (the wife) about this shirt, thinking that she'd find it humorous. It must be "guy humor" -- she thought that it was stupid. Well, I think it is funny.
  14. Congratulations and good luck, Gordon! I got mine for $2500 which seemed nearly free at the time. Now, after many parts/repairs, it doesn't seem free or cheap, but it's been fun. As the p.o.'s, Mr. Evans (Dieter) & Mr. Dearborn (Konrad), said to me: "it looks as though it's found a good home."
  15. Jackie: You will have our eternal gratitude if you continue to thoughtfully feature historic BMW's and the company's history. Enthusiasts are different than the folks leasing a new BMW. The enthusiasts are where the knowledge, the fellowship and the fun are found. Hey, I need to get to Carmel/Monterey again during the week leading into the Pebble Beach Concours. I saw you at Legends of the Autobahn in 2011, but I hesitated to interrupt you, since I did not have a car on display there. I have very much enjoyed Bimmer and I wish you great success, especially as this opportunity presents itself. Thanks for doing a very fine job. I'll keep reading Bimmer faithfully each month.
  16. There is a creeping age problem within the BMWCCA, i.e. too old. That needs to be addressed to keep the club and the magazine viable. I'm definitely tired of the odometer photos and the cute kids in pedal cars or BMW regalia. Bimmer magazine steers clear of such silliness. Racing is way over-emphasized in Roundel. I have no time or $$ to race cars or to follow auto racing. I have a job, after all.
  17. I got the new issue yesterday. It is a major overhaul. Sam Smith is leaving for Road & Track, Joseph Chamberlain's column is gone, as is Jenny Morgan's & Mike Self's.... I've seen major shake-ups when a newspaper updates its look & feel. (my wife, Mary, is a writer for the Dayton Daily News) It can definitely be upsetting for some, though not for all -- it's done to gain readership. (ideally, that is) Your comments?
  18. Mary Jo (my wife) bought me a set of coco mats for my '87 325 coupe. I told her: "that's all I want." Of course, she got me some other smaller gifts, but I would have been super-pleased with the coco mats alone... They've not arrived yet, but that's OK w/me. Eager to see them!
  19. That is a great idea. We love our '02's and strive to protect them, but there can be so much pleasure in giving like you are doing now... Good job!
  20. Mitchell: I just found this thread. Great idea: teaming up with Blunttech to raise research funds for the AHA. Thanks. BTW: I'm in, too!
  21. Those rims WOULD look mighty fine on a '73 Malaga tii. We'd like to see them come April when we have our Spring RGB drive through N. KY. See you then, Karl!
  22. Karl still has them, Jason. He offered them to me before I committed to the alloys that you had. I don't recall the pricetag, but it was enough to cause me to pass on them. I like them, no problems there...
  23. Subjective: whether you like Sahara for your '02 or not Objective: BMW sold huge numbers of Sahara 1600-2's, 2002's, E3's, etc. Somebody had to have bought them, right? I am guessing that the top colors by production would include: Chamonix, Sahara, and Malaga. Does anyone know?
  24. Nice to see. Especially since it appears to have gotten a lot of love and it retains its stock appearance. (my issue arrived today!)
  25. Congratulations! I work as an RN. I see far too much CA at work and in my non-work life. I've lost several friends and family members to cancer. Enjoy the good things in life - such as 2002's and your friends who love them as well.
