  1. Craig: very impressive! I had a feeling you'd work this sort of magic. When I test-drove it in Cincinnati for you, it had a good ways to go. It had a great paintjob, but was otherwise in a worn state. I'd recommend a look-see at this one guys. Best of luck to you on the sale of this beauty.
  2. It has an OH vintage car license (black & white). It was parked on the grass & from a distance, it fooled me, but I was pretty sure I had parked along the road, not on the grass.
  3. Spotted at the Dayton Concours d'Elegance today. VIN : 4282524 & Ohio tag: 454YHV You need to join the RGB, fella!
  4. Come on up, Skip!! You will not regret it. Great roads & great times all around. The scenery is gorgeous. Do you like Belgian Ales?? I could have some ready & waiting.
  5. I was very pleased when NA was the commencement speaker when I graduated from the University of Cincinnati. (Bach. Business degree) It was not an electrifying speech, but we were wowed by having such a famous, admirable guy giving the address. BTW: he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity (like me) a few years (~30) before me.
  6. I will NOT be in the #2 position behind Jason this time. (for obvious reasons) I will drive more conservatively, further back in the pack. Thank you and good night.
  7. Glad that you are OK, Don. I checked with my brother in E. Baton Rouge Parish. He'd not lost power, but his fence was blown down and he lost a few tree limbs. Heavy rains there, but nothing too dramatic for seasoned BR residents. We midwesterners hope to get some of the rain from the remnants of Isaac before long... Typical news reports of the storm: they could not pronounce Plaquemines Parish. Also they reported the storm at a short distance from their luxury hotels in the French Quarter. When Katrina hit, the only one I can remember chasing the stories throughout the region was Anderson Cooper. He was everywhere; I respected that.
  8. This deserves either a full restoration or a patina'd restoration - but no rat-rod treatment. As a low VIN 1600-2 it's an early representative of the 2002's that followed. I have driven this one and it's a lot of fun. It is much lighter than my '75.
  9. "Removing the tint on my '02 required only a razor-blade scraper and endless hours of squinting and sweating." (Quote) Yup! Thanks for explaining why Ziebart got the contract!
  10. I suppose a high quality window tint might be OK, but I did not like the tint on either of my bimmers. I did not want to experiment with removing it, so I took them to Ziebart for tint removal. Both vehicles look great and I can see SO MUCH BETTER at night. The 325's cheesy tint had my night vision on par with a 99 year old man.
  11. Amazing; you'll have a bimmer museum before long! Good luck with your new toy, Sam.
  12. '73 was the last year they made good '02's? We differ on that, but to each his own. Besides the large bumpers and the square tail lights, there's not a lot of difference. The smog equipment is long gone in the case of my '02. Anyhooo, good luck with the sale. BTW, I like roundies too. One day, I'll get that '72 Golf I've been wanting since the 1970's...
  13. I 2nd what BJ and Dave Hoovler said. This gtg is great fun. It's not a closed event; if you want to come along, let us know. You're welcome to come up and drive the twisty ridges of northern KY with the RGB crew. Skip? Don Derham? Randy? Paul W. and the F-bomb?, others? Let's go...
  14. Looking for a full set for my '87 325. Preferably in the MW, not too far from Dayton. Thx.
  15. I would be interested in lowering springs and in bottlecap or basketweave rims. Thanks, Jim (j.denker@sbcglobal.net)
  16. Matt: We are all glad that a young engineer like you has the desire to own/repair/upgrade/drive a 2002. However, could you give us some idea what you are looking for: Roundie or Squaretail?, Modified or Stock?, Rough&Cheap or Sleek&Spendy?, What color?, Sunroof or Slicktop?, A/C or non-A/C?, 4-speed or auto.? etc. I don't mean to rain on your parade. Do plenty of research before you buy. Get a 2002 expert to go along with you when you begin to shop in earnest......
  17. I was driving my 10-year-old daughter to a play date on Thursday night when we happended to get behind an immaculate black TR3. It brought me back to '63 or '64 when my father's coworker bought just such a car. My dad went nutty over it and I did too, though I was a preschooler. My dad quickly snatched a red TR4 and thereafter, he was interested in foreign cars that were fun to drive. I have that interest and so does my son, Alec. (21 y.o.) Funny how influential that black TR3 was to the three of us ....
  18. It was good to meet you Dave. Enjoy your Bell 'Magnum' helmet.
  19. A few years ago, we were vacationing in Frisco, CO and we did a daytrip to Mt. Evans with Mary's sister and her family. We saw a number of mysterious Japanese (or Korean?) vehicles being tested at Mt. Evans. My son and I would approach the cars when we were at a scenic stop and the Asian guys would act nervous, jump into the cars and speed off. The cars were clad in such a way that it was hard to say what they were exactly.
  20. If you have a chance, go to Memphis and tour the Rock and Soul Museum, Graceland, Sun Studios, Stax Records, the Gibson Guitar Factory, Beale St., the National Civil Rights Museum. We went to Memphis in March. We were enroute to New Orleans for my niece's wedding. Incredible music has come out of Memphis over the years. The Civil Rights Museum is housed in the former Loraine Motel where MLK Jr. was killed. Such a famous place, it was weird to actually be there in person.
  21. Tom: VIN comparison - - 2365006 here! Build Date: 5-5-75 I once messaged the owner of 2365005 who was selling his Sahara '75 in Calif. on EBaymotors. Wow. He was surprised to hear from me!
  22. Scott & Fran Hughes brought this car from N. Ohio to a Dave Hoovler-led gtg at Shaker Village in KY, not too far from Lexington. I am not sure which year it was, but it was approx. April 20th. We had a freak snow storm that Fri. night into Saturday morning. It was surprisingly cold on our back country drive which included a ferry boat river crossing. {Dave, you have the photos -- could you post one or two?} Scott wanted to turn on the heat in the car, but the lever had never been thrown over to 'heat' (Formerly a Calif. car), so the lever was stuck. It was recommended that he not force it. I guess he got that fixed later on... A beautiful car. Scott and Fran were great company too!
  23. Mid-1980's vintage? The printing on the box is dated 1979... It is a black Bell Magnum Limited helmet, for a 7 & 3/4 sized head. (Denkers have big noggins!) I know that helmet standards have changed over the years, but I wondered if it would be of interest to any of you. It's just sitting in my garage. Price?? -- - - - It may have no value at all. If you are interested, email me and I can send you pictures. Thx.
  24. I learned to drive using Dad's '72 Golf '02. (his baby) I had to be very careful - driving it the way he taught me: assertively, firmly and with a sense of fun. Well, I also used my sister's '73 4-speed Pinto to learn with, but that wasn't any fun... Oh, and Mom had a '73 Volvo 164E which was much easier to drive since it was an automatic. I had thought the '02 was OK, but when I started driving it, the smile on my face was instantaneous. The 2002 was the only classic car that meant a lot to me 30 years down the road.
