  1. I'm going! See you, Mike, Mike, Mike, (lotsa Mikes around here) Nick, Randy, Bo, Skip, Ben, Don, Joe, Brian, etc. I'm very excited to be making my 3rd trip to Eureka Springs. I'm counting on Don D. bringing me some Turbo Dog. What Ohio beer do you fancy, Don?? Just thinking about this GTG has brightened my day considerably.
  2. A short list for me: I need to get the soup-dish alloy wheels refurbished and on my '02. After that, it's just an oil change, a wash and wax job. The E30 needs a stereo re-do. I'd love to get that sorted out incl. new speakers. I have an older Blaupunkt Laguna head unit to replace the crazily complicated Sony I have now.
  3. Great name. Jason G. is going to like this; he has a little one named Hazel too.
  4. Congratulations! BTW: what is her name? You have a lot of good times ahead of you. This coming from a father of 3 children. (20 y.o., 16 y.o. & a 10 y.o.) You will enjoy this special Christmas gift for the rest of your life.
  5. I have a set of 4 needing that exact treatment. Thanks for the reminder! I need them ready in time for Eureka Springs in April! Time will fly...
  6. Nice Picture! Now I want one with me and my car like that. Don, are you gonna bring me some Turbo Dog to drink?? BTW, 3M makes absolutely everything we use at work. Crazy. I noticed the company's logo when I was watching 'Overhaulin' the other night. You guys are everywhere! I consider this gtg as my birthday present to ME, since my big day is April 22. See y'all before long!
  7. Finding a good old-school BMW mechanic is crucial - assuming you're not going to be the mechanic. I'm no mechanic, so I've relied on Mike McCarthy at Foreign Car Service. (FREE Plug) He's made mine extremely reliable and enjoyable. I've gotten help & advice from Mike Self and many others here on the FAQ. Since 2003 (when I purchased Dieter), I have become a LOT more knowledgeable, so I can make sure my '02 gets what it needs long before disaster strikes.
  8. The 2002 does not have modern heating and cooling. Actually, it's not modern in a lot of ways. (part of its appeal) If you have the passion, a strong desire to experience the 2002, buy one. If you want more comfort, more power, more reliability, you should get an E30 instead. The E30 is much newer, it is a few generations down the road toward the present BMW's. Nobody can tell you what to get to satisfy your unique personality, your own needs. We can steer you, but buy the one that moves you, buy the one that speaks to you.... (if you like Ceylon, get an E30 in 'Bronzitbeigemetallic' - lots of them out there) I don't think that a 2002 is a good first car for a teen. UNLESS they show promise as a bimmerphile and a wrench-turner. (i.e. young enthusiast) Teens are not the best drivers at first, so let her total a Toyota or a Nissan before getting fancy.
  9. I am planning on going to C&C @ FUEL on December 31st. I'll take the '02 if the weather is decent. Your move, Mike!
  10. Fly in to Dayton, Columbus, or Cincinnati sometime. We could get a few '02 owners together for you.
  11. Best wishes for a MAJOR, GIGANTIC SUCCESS. Wow, I'd enjoy being off on a Friday night just once. I have only been to FUEL one time; shortly after I bought the 325. Will you be having more C&C events during the winter months?
  12. I don't think that Todd, Hunter, & Babs can take on another one, but I COULD BE WRONG.
  13. Bill W: Skyline Chili, Graeter's Ice Cream, La Rosa's Pizza, The Montgomery Inn (Ribs King), Hudepohl Beer, & Christian Moerlein Beer -- some of the very good things that the state of Ohio has to offer. Columbus has the 'Bahama Mama' sandwich in the German Village...
  14. I was born in Cincinnati! (I have those ties.) Anyhow, you might think that I'd go to bunches of shows at the SGH, but the only one I went to was a Dave Alvin concert. Dave & his brother Phil, founded the Blasters in 1979. The Blasters eventually broke up and Dave & Phil rarely play together any more. Dave Alvin & his current band ('Dave Alvin & the Guilty Men') played at my sister-in-law's wedding reception -- cool stuff. When we saw DA at the SGH, he was very happy to see the McCarty sisters again. (fun-loving, hard-core fans that they are!)
  15. My E30 glovebox did not fail at the latch, but at the back end (toward the firewall) where it is anchored. The brittle plastic broke up badly back there. Now with a better used glovebox it works fine. When I got the car, the glovebox was hanging by a thread -- closing it securely took several tries.
  16. Blaupunkt radio: does it work? what year '02 did it come out of? Thanks.
  17. Jason: Tell me about the radio: does it work? What make? Pictures of the unit, pleez. Thx. If you have a good 3rd brake light from one of the cars you stripped, that'd be of interest. I don't like mine a bit.
  18. That is, without major cutting, welding, surgery, etc. ?? TIA.
  19. Jim: We drove 425 miles to see the '75 Sahara that I bought in the summer of 2003. Luckily, we were enroute to Baton Rouge, LA to see my brother's family, so stopping in Athens, AL was easily accomplished. We struck a deal; I left a deposit with the owner and he shipped it on his own flatbed about 10 days later. I also drove from Dayton to Parkersburg, WV to see a very sad '74 Sahara. They were all Sahara or Malaga that summer!!
  20. Thanks for the input -- Steve, Bob, Dirka, John, Frank, Jason, John (Harv), Rob S., etc. I appreciate your thoughts. I will have it removed. It is the last remnant of Dieter's "blacked-out-trim" look. When I bought the car, I had to undo some stupid alterations. I opted for a stock-looking '02 instead. I even have the orig. steering wheel and shifter nob!! I like having what I chose for the car, not some leftovers that I grudgingly put up with. Anyway, last night I drove the 325 at night for the 1st time since the tint removal - my night vision improved very dramatically. It may save my life. Not all tintjobs are of a high quality, so I won't put down every window tint.
  21. Dammmmm. For that price, I'd have bought it too. In Ohio, the seller would have wanted too much. Totally FUBAR E30's are listed for real $ here. Idiotic. E30's are special to a lot of '02 owners. (incl. me)
  22. You did very well with your Recaros, Paul. I like them very much.
  23. (aftermarket tinting) What do you all think? I just got the very bad tint-job removed from my 325e. Now I am wondering if it should be removed from my '02 as well. It looked very crummy on the the E30 and was in poor shape. My '02, orig. an Alabama car, had the window tinting when I purchased it. I learned to live with it; just not sure -- should I pull the trigger and remove it? Purists - no tint is my guess, right? Give me you thoughts, please..... TIA.
  24. You're correct. It is mighty fine. I saw it at Laguna Seca in Aug.
