  1. Congrats to Babs! Enjoy your new ride, Babs. It looks very sharp and I know it will be great fun to drive. Eager to see your "new" '02.
  2. Guten tag, fraulein!! I don't own a Porsche, but my dad used to own a '79 (non-Targa) 911 in the same color as yours. I got to drive it once or twice. My only P-car experience, sad to say. I've riden in other Porsche's, but have not driven them. Have fun, my man!
  3. I forgot my manners! Sorry, Jon. Thanks for answering my questions. I love the grass roots local events that can be attended on the cheap! I won't rule out O'fest, but I am concerned that the cost will knock out some of my favorites in that calendar year. This year, I made it to MidAmerica '02 Fest in Ark. (April), our local RGB Spring N.KY gtg (April), Vintage (late May), the 4th of July parade in Yellow Springs, OH (surprisingly FUN), a RGB gtg in 'Rubber City' i.e. Akron, (early Aug.), & the Fall RGB N.KY gtg (Sept.23/24th). To top it all off, our family vacation had us in Carmel, Calif. during the automotive events leading into the Pebble Beach Concours. (the week of Aug. 14 - 20) What a blast! I got to know some of the west coast 2002'ers and attended Legends of the Autobahn and the classic car races at Laguna Seca. I did a lot of fun things this year. Grateful and pleased am I -- no complaints.
  4. OK. How spendy?? Do I need to fork over $5000 to attend?
  5. Can you reassure the timid who fear used cars coming out of Texas?? Sort of kidding, kinda, ummmm, yeah.
  6. OK, not to be negative, BUT, I have kept away from O'Fest due to my fears of the potential high cost and a sense that I'd be lost in a sea of wealthy new-bimmer-owners. Tell me why I should attend O'fest; in all seriousness. I would like to know if I should go to O'fest..... Thanks!!
  7. I missed it too. I have gone 2x in the past. I pick up work shifts at my hospital based on a 'needs list.' The needs were greatest leading into the past weekend and on through it. Darn. I hope to be there next fall.
  8. Lucky me. I had just met Michael (in person) for the 1st time and in a few moments, I was driving this very special '02. What a great friend he is! Driving this rare BMW and his beloved Bacchus through the wine country near Hollister - - heaven. We've got to do that again..... (& btw, THANKS!!)
  9. Mike generously loaned us this car when Mary's Taurus was obliterated last summer. It worked perfectly and did not let us down one little bit. With some light body work and a Delphin gray paintjob, you can have an excellent E30 at low cost. It is well worth a closer look!
  10. Send it to the Fugates in TN. They need another black squaretail!!
  11. A Euro-bimmer like this reminds me of trips to Belgium to visit my parents. They lived near Brussels from late '80 until late '85. I'd see BMW's like this (NEW) & lusted for them. I owned a '71 Maverick at the time! wheeeee.
  12. Here's another great IPA: Christian Moerlein Northern Liberties IPA. It's made in my hometown - - Cincinnati, OH. Mary bought me some last week & I found the time to have 2 out of the 6-pack. Work gets in the way of having fun though.
  13. Mr. Mc C. has done wonders on my '02. He rebuilt my M10. When I got my '02, the windshield and rear window seals were baked & cracked. I bought the OEM seals & locking strips. Then I had a local glass shop put them in. It wasn't expensive, but it was done right. For a while, I had leakage (minute amount) at both bottom corners of the windshield. It ceased after a few months. The gasket must have settled into place and filled the gaps.
  14. Hi Tom! Willkommen! Like Mike Self, I live not far from you. You just missed a great weekend with the RGB (Rivertown Gearbusters) driving the twisties of N. KY with folks like Jason, BJ, Charlie, Ben, Jake, Todd, Dave, Brian, Stacey, Louis, Hunter, etc., etc. There are a lot of '02 owners in the region. (Mike being the one who's owned/repaired one the longest.) You are most welcome to join us on our various outings. We'd like to see your Inka '02 very soon. And btw good luck with the final sorting out process. (email me at j DOT denker AT sbcglobal DOT net so that I can add you to my mailing list!)
  15. I know Paul B. & Nick B. I wasn't slamming you guys. I was being silly. The few bad apples can give a black eye, that is certain. I've seen some horrific cars for sale in Ohio. We have shysters to spare in the Buckeye state; no shortage. A few years ago, I saw a '76 Anthracite Gray '02 for sale along Dixie Hwy. (Dayton) for $3000. It was so rusty, moldy, damp, smelly, etc. that I wouldn't take it home for free. There was a roundie for sale (for years on end) that was just crap, but the repair shop where it was moldering away wanted $5500 or so for it. Dream on!
  16. jeeeeeez. I won't be heading to Dallas to buy a BMW, that's for certain! What is it with Texas and the badly "restored" 2002's?
  17. While on our RGB gtg, some of us watched this movie together. I'd heard about it for many years -- to the point of becoming legendary or even mythical. It is a strange time capsule of the times... So, is it existential mumbo-jumbo or is it genius? I lean toward the former. (full disclosure: I was 11 when they made this film)
  18. I'd sure like to see your '02. You'll have to meet up with the rest of the '02'ers in the MW for a drive one day.
  19. Way overpriced. Did you notice the over the top verbage? It's a knock out for me when the seller goes on at length -- don't waste my time, no joy rides, serious offers, blah-blah-blah. Truth: he needs you way more than you need him. He's an ass. The car will disappoint as well.
  20. Ray: was it that white, high-mileage one on CL? I had thought of getting a 318ti, but the ones available were usually auto., beat down, or modified badly, etc. It's hard to find a good one. Good luck with your 'new' car.
  21. I like the advice given by Steve J & by Armond. Thumbs up. I don't like SUV's, nor do I like vans. Most people go overboard with their family vehicles once they have EVEN ONE LITTLE TYKE! We bought a 2001 Taurus wagon for carpool duty, family vacation duty, hauling a canoe, etc. We had 3 kids of our own to haul about, plus our kids' friends to carry about. Tauri aren't sexy or amazing, but they are reliable and likeable in their own practical way. And, yeah, I really preferred the idea of a 5-series touring, but that never got off the ground with Mary. She LOVES the Taurus and drives it maybe 90% to my 10%... (I test drove a Volvo wagon. The 3rd row seat is SO TINY; not good.)
  22. At first, I thought the pictures were of the '02 you had bought (a '70). Glad that this is not the same one. Are you going to buy this '02 for parts? Or are you looking to save it?
  23. This coupe makes me think of Steve Bingham's wonderful Baikal coupe. However, I doubt that he lets his get bashed or left out in the rain! Steve's bimmer is an award winner. He lives in Kettering, btw. I don't know who owns the one in this photo though...
  24. Excellent work, Chris! It was very good to meet you at Legends of the Autobahn. Your Malaga coupe serves as wallpaper each time I use my cell phone. (from when you had it parked in front of Aunt Aggie's place in Carmel -- where we were staying....)
  25. I just received my elephant snout drain tubes from Anthony Kraus in San Diego. I am pleased with his integrity and how he delivered as promised. A positive experience indeed.
