  1. Good advice all around. Hey, I have a desmogged '75. A tii exhaust manifold is an improvement over your original manifold; better airflow, slight HP increase. Mine had a K&N air filter over the Weber 32/36. I changed it back to the factory setup, including the summer/winter box and orig. aircleaner. Recently removed the fan shroud and put in a tropical fan blade for better cooling. (besides, my old fan blade was beat to hell) It runs great!
  2. Harry: Re. the Lane Motor Museum --- It is a great time, definitely go see their collection of eclectic mini-cars. In 2006, I went with my son, Alec. Now, I want to go again.

  4. Everyone likes Sam, his lovely wife, and his classy BMW's.
  5. I've been corresponding a lot recently with my college roommate, Mike A. He'd mentioned that he wanted to get an E28 or E30 for his son. "Great, I'll help you." says me. Well, he just picked up an '84 Sapphire Blue 528e (5-speed) in the Atlanta area. I'd seen it on CL & I knew he could fly down there free since his wife is a United flight attendant... He talked the owner down on price and it's enroute to Ohio at 80 MPH. Get ready, Mike McCarthy, here it comes! ( a shameless plug for Foreign Car Svc. owned & operated by fellow '02 owner Mike McC. )
  6. That one's similar to one I found at an indpendent garage in Maine. They had a Fjord '72 tii a woman had towed onto their lot. Says she: "get it going again." No mention by her as to budget or the scope of the project. It'd been sitting around for years, so it was not going to be cheap. Worse, this shop was almost strictly working on air-cooled VW's, so who knows what happened to that one... If you need a name for the car: Krusty, Barnacle Bill, Rusty, or Buff ("it'll buff out just fine....)
  7. I remember talking with one of the few alert and oriented WWI vets at our local VA center years ago. (there were quite a few there, but they were bedridden and confused for the most part) Anyway, Roscoe drove teams of horses that moved the artillery and ammunition. He took great pride in training them. He was affectionate & gentle with his horses. It was poignant when he got sad & said with tears in his eyes: "I'd get a good team together and the Germans would shell us & kill my team of horses....." It was so sad; he was in that moment in WWI. Salute to a departed soldier & dedicated horse lover.
  8. This is weak. We have no idea who you are, no pictures, no way of establishing any credibility here... Try again, anonymous 1st-time-poster.
  9. THANKS to my '02 friends for coming over, I know that Mary and I had a very good time. Besides lots of food, beer, and wine, we had a lovely tour of Dieter's Garage. (newly christened, too) We looked over the paltry collection of parts amassed for Dieter and Konrad. (the new steering wheel and the new basketweaves -- truly fascinating, right, guys??) Back to the food; we had an AMAZING taco bar, just build it yourself any way you want it, baby! We had salad, tortilla chips, we had cheesecake, choc. cream pie, and Italian ice cream. (thanks, John!) So, if you were at home missing all this, well, you've got yourself to blame. Sorry. Attendees: Mike and Carol Self, Charlie and Kari Grafton, John Blake, Jason Gipson, Karl and Lori Hendrickson, and of course, me, Mary, Veronica, and Ni-Ni P.S. Get those '02's ready for Spring!
  10. Nick: you are an asset to the FAQ with your strong enthusiasm, questions, solutions, your sense of humor, etc. Less than 2% of the FAQ users are obnoxious -- it would be a waste and a shame to lose your wit and insights. We can't have the toxic minority ruling the FAQ site. Please stay active - contributing along with the majority who are great FAQ'ers. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing you in Eureka Springs in April...
  11. Paging Dr. Aaron Lentz! He lives in Wichita, KS. He owns a Sahara roundie. I met him in Eureka Springs, AR last April.
  12. Re. the Andy & Andi name similarity --- We know a married couple who are both named Robin. I am sure they suffer due to the jokesters at any gtg they attend. Do the 'funny guys' bug you about the Andy/Andi thing??
  13. Vintage is a very friendly, fun event. It is not the Pebble Beach Concours. That doesn't mean we don't like shiny, nearly perfect '02's. However, it isn't terribly important to strive for perfection. Mine spends too much time in the garage --- so, a wonderful opportunity to caravan to Vintage has me eager to drive. You can trailer yours, but think of the fun you'll have DRIVING your '02. You probably don't get to do that enough. Caravan to Vintage, you won't regret it.
  14. Don: how crazy is your weather down there? We have had snow & ice continuously since early December here. We used to have winters that were so mild that we'd hope for more than one snowfall all winter. The local schools have used up the alloted snow days. Maybe I'll see you in Eureka Springs??
  15. I believe in having two sets of rims and two sets of tires, both mounted. I have used Blizzak tires in the winter and have had good luck w/them. In this region we had gotten used to having very wimpy winters for a number of years, but now we have snow on the ground for months on end. When I was a kid, we lived in Alexandria, LA for 5 yrs. We got one dusting of snow in the 5 yrs. there. I suppose they get much more in a 5 yr. span these days.
  16. YaaY! You'll be driving Wolfgang at 99 yrs. of age. By then, you will have to explain to everyone what on earth it is!
  17. The bright red 1960 700 is super! It would cause a sensation at Vintage.
  18. Still haven't seen one of these up close. I've seen so many other rare BMW's, but the 700 eludes me.
  19. I like GOLF. I used to get around in dad's '72 Golf w/black interior, when I wasn't borrowing my sister's '73 Pinto.
  20. Mike Self found one sitting (endlessly) on a driveway not far from his house. It's a fjord squaretail, but rust never sleeps here in the rustbelt. We talked to the owner. Mike told him he'd try to find some one who was eager to tackle a BIG project. It's all there, but neglect is costly here in Ohio. I'd say it will be cheep, cheep, cheep! There is also a '75 automatic here in Kettering that sits neglected on the driveway. Supposedly, the garage has another '02 plus reems of parts, but the eccentric owner won't talk to me. I spoke to his wife and she wants to be rid of all the '02 stuff.... Maybe Mike can work his magic on this dufus.
  21. Interested in the bottlecaps. Just started an acct. on that web page - can't post to it yet.
  22. Definitely time capsules. I don't remember either ad, but I sure remember the cars and the TV stars.
