  1. Nice car! You need something fun like this while Tip Top is being brought back from a near-death experience.
  2. I am planning on driving mine down there this time. Dibs on a ride w/Larry if both BMW's are laid up somehow.... See y'all in April.
  3. Not to be a broken record, BUT I recently bought an '87 325 eta & I love it. It was owned first by a woman in Calif. who took it to the dealer for every little thing & she kept it garaged. (rust-free) In '06, it came to the Indianapolis area and was converted from auto. to 5-speed and given a LSD. Also, the front end was totally rebuilt, the power antenna was repaired, and the battery tray area was rust-repaired and painted - better than new. The guy I bought it from put on new brakes, new tires and some alloy wheels from a 325is. He is an aircraft mechanic, so he was unafraid to tear into things & repair them. I took it in for a new timing belt & various drive belts, plus a new water pump. It is my dd now. Bargain priced, too.
  4. I wait for the rare salt-free-road days -- then I start it up and go for a 1/2 hr. drive. I want the engine to heat up to normal operating temp. and for the fluids to circulate thoroughly. The only thing on that list that I do each fall is to change the oil before the winter season. It works fine for me.
  5. OK, York, your post is way too VAGUE. You will have to help others before they can help you.... Maybe a real name like Bill, Joe, Sam or Dave would help as well. ----- QUESTIONS: Roundie or Squaretail? What color? Sunroof or non-sunroof? Manual or auto.? Carb'd (Solex or Weber?) or how about a tii? How far would you go to see one or to buy one? What is your '02 budget? ($, $$, $$$, $$$$, $$$$$, etc.) Where are you located? Do you want a touring? Maybe a targa? Possibly a turbo? Define well-sorted People here like to help, but we can't read minds very well.
  6. I am so sorry to hear that William. You had one of the best '02's in the nation. Very glad that you're OK. Congrats once again on having a baby on the way. Things will sort out, so hang in there!
  7. Automatics are great for 5-speed conversions due to the wider trans. tunnel. Most of us are not sad to see an auto. converted to a 5-speed that's for sure. If you like doing the projects, good for you. Just make sure that most of it involves bolt on parts, not as much in the way of rust repair/welding/sanding/paint. Good luck!!
  8. I agree regarding the irony. I bought mine in 2003. Now that I know a lot more, I would have bought an entirely different car. I am not sad nor am I kicking myself. I rescued a very decent car and I have learned a ton in the process. Cheapies are quite tempting, but the smart move is to buy one that has had extensive (i.e. expensive for the p.o.) work done on it by a true '02 fanatic. (not purchased from a used car lot or from a certain bidness in Dallas) If I had bought, say, a super-nice $6,000 squaretail, I'd have saved quite a bit of money over time. I could not convince my wife that an "OLD" car was worth that much, so I was on a tight budget up front.
  9. I can bring a sampler of Ohio beers for you and other mmmmmmmm, beer-types to sample. How's that?
  10. Mr Gerock: what Ohio brews do you like? I'll bring one of them instead.
  11. Jim: bring some of it to Vintage. I'll swap some Little Kings Cream Ale with you. MMMMMM, beer is right!
  12. A clone of mine! Wonder how close the VIN's are to eachother? That would sell in minutes here in the MW....
  13. Mary has no interest in cars as anything but a means to get her where she wants to go. {She loves her '01 Taurus wagon. } Wisely, she enjoys seeing me happy and she encourages me to do what I call: bimmers on a budget. I did have to fight for my right to sell a BORING dd and purchase an inexpensive roundel'd dd. She assumed that I'd spend a lot more to get my dd, but there are plenty of interesting, cheap BMW's on CL. The engine rebuild last winter pissed her off when she saw the bill. I seriously owe her a trip to Europe now......
  14. Hi Matt. I have a '75 in the Dayton area, in fact, I live close to Mike. Send me an email & I'll add you to my database of OH/IN/KY '02 owners. That way, I can keep you posted regarding items for sale, our various gtg's, etc. Good luck with your '02. I've had mine since 2003 but I'll never be done sorting it out. 15. I had a 1981 Rabbit S. Unfortunately it was assembled in the cursed PA VW plant which meant loads of misery for me and many other VW owners. I owned it from early '83 until the fall of '89. With much better quality control and better materials, that car would have been mighty special. It was always in the shop for something. It was never the engine, some other crapola. It ate fuel pumps for lunch -- not sure why? It also broke clutch cables repeatedly.
  16. My kids 'friended' me. I don't hover and they don't get upset w/me. If they want to keep a secret, they're clever enough to keep it off FB so as to keep me in the dark... I'll never know everything they're up to anyhow. They are teens, I am middle-aged; there is a gap just like when I was the teenager.
  17. I love Rube Goldberg devices... mostly because I am NOT the sort of person who could build them.
  18. great! I hope that the transition to the new normal goes very well.
  19. I can't recall the answer, but I've heard Mike Self answer this very question many, many times. I suggest a forum search of the postings by Doktor Self. (his FAQ handle is Mike) He's answered somebody else asking that question, I am sure. EDIT: I just re-checked. It is Testor's #1111 for the Bavarian blue.
  20. Brian: I am happy that Mary finally consented to dumping the Saturn and allowing me to pick up an E30 for my dd. That is a HUGE improvement. I can't force her to love a 5-series touring when she LOVES (!!) her 2001 Taurus SES wagon. {I bought it cheap off CL after her previous one got totalled in late June.}
  21. Congrats & good luck. My vote is for getting it back to its orig. look and feel. If it was originally Chamonix, that would be my first choice for a paintjob, but another early '02 color would be fitting. It may take some effort to find the early front grill and trim that you need, but it will be worth it.
  22. Nice touring! I wanted to buy one of those, but Mary wanted the much-cheaper Taurus wagon. Oh well.
  23. I'm thinking that 's the one on CL currently?? How many miles does it have on it? I'm no longer searching for one, but it would have gotten my attention a few weeks ago! I hope you scoop it up Ray.
  24. Good point, Esty. Why is it that the rudest remarks are the hardest to trace back to the brave ones who uttered them? Elementary.
