  1. When does she get her first ride in your Chamonix roundie?? Teach her to drive a manual asap. Good luck!
  2. Larry: Maybe I could go on a field trip to Reggie's place with you one day. I've heard good things about his business.
  3. (1) Front license plate holder (black plastic) (2) Black plastic piece which covers the passenger seat hinge [the one on the outer (i.e. pass. door) side] (3) Plastic clips which hold the liner in place just behind the headlights (engine compartment). The clips push into place & look like stubby bolts. Never mind! I ordered the 1st two items from a BMW salvage yard in Sacramento. I was only missing one clip. I found one in the glovebox today -- problem solved.
  4. Sally was HOT in that movie. Why he let her go, I cannot figure out.
  5. GLWS of your '02. I have only seen one super-nice Golf Squaretail & it is nearby in Yellow Springs, OH. Mostly I see them beaten up pretty badly. I'm not sure why Golf cars take such abuse. Save this one, somebody; I LIKE Golf. (& it's not called monkey-vomit-green, either!!)
  6. This is not terribly constructive. I hardly know what we are talking about here. However, I promise to be polite to you and to everyone on the FAQ. Maybe everyone should take a solemn vow to be civil.....
  7. When it comes to cheap & rust-free, it's easier to find a squaretail that is cheap and (mostly) rust-free. You can find a roundie that is cheap, but probably not free of rust. Roundies command higher prices. There is nothing wrong with the '74-'76 cars except the massive bumpers. If you hate them enough, they can be swapped for the earlier style bumpers. As to removing the dreaded smog equipment, the FAQ search is your friend. So, yank that stuff out of there and get a tii exhaust manifold in place of the goofy one that was connected to the smog stuff. It's your personal preference when it comes to color, year, modifications, etc. Decide what you like best before you shop in earnest. Find an '02 buddy in your area to help you look some '02's over. See what you like and what you don't like & then buy one!
  8. Good point, Nick. The Friday local car cruise-in is going to need oxygen tanks and scooter chairs in a couple more years! Old-school hot-rods and muscle cars rule the lot, but I get excited over the oddball cars that show up. (Example: the 16-year-old with a very low miles '75 Pinto hatchback w/orig. putrid light green paint job & darker snot green interior. It was in excellent condition. I asked him: "What made you want to buy this car?" He said: "I needed a car and it was cheap and it was in really good shape." He was curious & learned a lot about Pintos and I certainly wished him good luck; a very good kid.)
  9. In the midwest, there are many more squaretails than roundies. The oldest '02's rusted away or got rear-ended, espec. with the smaller round tail lights. My dad's '72 Golf got rear-ended twice. The 2nd time totalled the car for keeps.
  10. I am not the greatest expert, but tii's are relatively rare. (only built in 72, 73, & 74) They generate more HP. (about 135) They are generally well preserved & they are usually in a more original state than your avg. carbed '02. They also have boxed trailing arms and better brakes.
  11. There is a '73 Turkis not far from here, BUT it was orig. SAHARA. --- And Karl's former car, a 1600-2 from Calif. -- sports a maizegelb paintjob which was orig. SAHARA.
  12. When I was looking to buy an '02 back in 2003, they were all Malaga or Sahara. I've never seen any for sale in the midwest that were Inka, Colorado, Pastelblau, Jadegrun, or Siennabraun, for example.
  13. They left out the SUV drivers!? What about the guys driving jacked-up super-duty trucks with balls dangling from the trailer hitch? At work, there is somebody in a dark blue Suburban that has nearly smashed into my car numerous times by driving very aggressively in a tightly-packed parking garage. (& I am coming off of a 12-hr. shift, so I am not 100% perky!)
  14. That should go to the Werk Shop for the full treatment!
  15. Several of us were talking about this one during our KY Ridge Runner drive/gtg. If it was a lot closer, one of us would have already bought it. There are not any decent Bav's around here. I have always wanted one. Good luck to your pal.
  16. It's the '02 that says: "I basically don't give a $+!T."
  17. One of these days....... I'm going to drive mine cross-country, using Route 66, north along the Calif. coastline, then back over the Rockies and across the plains. '02 people are great people. P.S. Michael Dubois is a superb host & friend.
  18. I like that E12 a lot. Have you seen it? I wonder if it's auto or manual? I think they are very good looking cars. The new ones aren't as well styled imo.
  19. When you get tired of that old thing, give me a call and I'll haul it away for you. Seriously, the bumpers (& the '02) look super!
  20. I never met Curt, but I have heard only very good things about him. It is sad to lose such a fine member of the '02 community. I like Mike's idea of naming '02-related awards in Curt's honor. Very appropriate imo.
  21. Correction, G-Man! The '98 Saturn SL-1 which I just sold had a very nice 5-speed transmission. The auto. trans. was a $500 add-on, so folks were paying for the 'priviledge' of driving an automatic! Granted, the 5-speeds are more rare. I remember that 5-speed Camry's weren't uncommon when I shopped them back in '89. Now, I doubt that Toyota offers a manual Camry. That bratty kid should have learned to drive his dad's '02. I hope his dad isn't caving in and buying him whatever his little heart desires.
  22. Let me know what you have to sell. It is very difficult to find a decent used BMW in this area. (does anyone even try to take care of their E30's??!!) I prefer a manual transmission, but I will consider auto's. I am not ready to spend a LOT -- $3500 will be my limit. Send pictures along with written temptations to: j DOT denker AT sbcglobal DOT net. THX!!
  23. It is hard to evaluate this '02. No pictures, only a partial description, and you can't test-drive it. The seller needs to make YOUR life easier imo. He's dumping his problems on you AND asking YOU to pay the bill. Mine was far from perfect when I found it, but I was able to drive it and inspect it fully before I committed to it. (it ran smoothly, it stopped, etc.) This one may be a wonderful project car or it may be a nightmare. Where are you located? Find a local '02 expert and have them come with you to check it out before you seal the deal. Just my 02 cents. Buyer beware, as always.
  24. Now I am compelled to add: NM/NA/nothing to gain from sale. Just a heads up on two '02's which might prove interesting to somebody out there.
