  1. It was certainly loud when I drove it the one time. Kind of a greasy fahrt! Wish I could have dropped by a few days ago. Our time was limited. We went to N.O. to eat too much and to shop too much. No breakdowns on the return home. (yay)
  2. I like this one, it's an exact clone of my dad's '72 Golf. I learned to drive using his nearly-new '02. No restoration was needed back then. He said his was totalled pretty quickly by the next owner...
  3. I don't think I can go wrong with the $2500 '87 325e coupe I picked up in October. A friend of mine recently bought an '84 528e (5-speed) for $2800. A great deal and a very nice looking car too. (Mine lived most of its life in Calif. and my buddy's E28 is from GA. And remember, as Neil says: "Rust never sleeps.")
  4. I've got one too, if you need it.
  5. I'd give it up free, give you a beer, and help you get it on the trailer. "Bless you!" is what you'd hear out of me as you pulled away with this gem.
  6. You are correct, Rob! You just made Mike Self's day!! He is in Florida now, avoiding the cold, sleet, and rain of Ohio. When I drove him to the airport Thurs. am, it was his first '02 ride/drive since early December. I drive mine when the salt has been washed away. (and it HAS with all the rain we've had lately) I didn't get to use it much last year due to a number of things, but this year it is going places!
  7. I've been driving mine every day since the salt got washed away by the rain. If you come to Kettering you will see me out & about. Hoping to bump into you when we are both 02'ing.
  8. Congrats! That '02 of yours is looking super. You have done an amazing job. We are going to be down there soon visiting my brother in Baton Rouge. (end of March) Maybe I can take a peek at it when we head to N.O.
  9. Best idea of all: PPI by an '02 professional (if the car is a shiny turd, that will become evident very quickly) (BTW: if this '02 is at Select Classics --- RUN!!!!!) -- THAT'S A RELIEF, KNOWING IT'S NOT FROM SELECT CLASSICS!!
  10. Sorry about that -- there will be other '02's. You're meant to find one that's even better. At least that's how I'd look at it. Good luck.
  11. Hmmm, my thoughts as well; that driver's seat looks scary. You could get it repaired/restuffed/reupholstered OR you could spring for some nice E21 Recaros. Your A$$ will be hurting in that seat, trust me! Re. brake light on: probably low on brake fluid
  12. Good advice all around. Hey, I have a desmogged '75. A tii exhaust manifold is an improvement over your original manifold; better airflow, slight HP increase. Mine had a K&N air filter over the Weber 32/36. I changed it back to the factory setup, including the summer/winter box and orig. aircleaner. Recently removed the fan shroud and put in a tropical fan blade for better cooling. (besides, my old fan blade was beat to hell) It runs great!
  13. Harry: Re. the Lane Motor Museum --- It is a great time, definitely go see their collection of eclectic mini-cars. In 2006, I went with my son, Alec. Now, I want to go again.

  15. Everyone likes Sam, his lovely wife, and his classy BMW's.
  16. I've been corresponding a lot recently with my college roommate, Mike A. He'd mentioned that he wanted to get an E28 or E30 for his son. "Great, I'll help you." says me. Well, he just picked up an '84 Sapphire Blue 528e (5-speed) in the Atlanta area. I'd seen it on CL & I knew he could fly down there free since his wife is a United flight attendant... He talked the owner down on price and it's enroute to Ohio at 80 MPH. Get ready, Mike McCarthy, here it comes! ( a shameless plug for Foreign Car Svc. owned & operated by fellow '02 owner Mike McC. )
  17. That one's similar to one I found at an indpendent garage in Maine. They had a Fjord '72 tii a woman had towed onto their lot. Says she: "get it going again." No mention by her as to budget or the scope of the project. It'd been sitting around for years, so it was not going to be cheap. Worse, this shop was almost strictly working on air-cooled VW's, so who knows what happened to that one... If you need a name for the car: Krusty, Barnacle Bill, Rusty, or Buff ("it'll buff out just fine....)
  18. I remember talking with one of the few alert and oriented WWI vets at our local VA center years ago. (there were quite a few there, but they were bedridden and confused for the most part) Anyway, Roscoe drove teams of horses that moved the artillery and ammunition. He took great pride in training them. He was affectionate & gentle with his horses. It was poignant when he got sad & said with tears in his eyes: "I'd get a good team together and the Germans would shell us & kill my team of horses....." It was so sad; he was in that moment in WWI. Salute to a departed soldier & dedicated horse lover.
  19. This is weak. We have no idea who you are, no pictures, no way of establishing any credibility here... Try again, anonymous 1st-time-poster.
  20. THANKS to my '02 friends for coming over, I know that Mary and I had a very good time. Besides lots of food, beer, and wine, we had a lovely tour of Dieter's Garage. (newly christened, too) We looked over the paltry collection of parts amassed for Dieter and Konrad. (the new steering wheel and the new basketweaves -- truly fascinating, right, guys??) Back to the food; we had an AMAZING taco bar, just build it yourself any way you want it, baby! We had salad, tortilla chips, we had cheesecake, choc. cream pie, and Italian ice cream. (thanks, John!) So, if you were at home missing all this, well, you've got yourself to blame. Sorry. Attendees: Mike and Carol Self, Charlie and Kari Grafton, John Blake, Jason Gipson, Karl and Lori Hendrickson, and of course, me, Mary, Veronica, and Ni-Ni P.S. Get those '02's ready for Spring!
  21. Nick: you are an asset to the FAQ with your strong enthusiasm, questions, solutions, your sense of humor, etc. Less than 2% of the FAQ users are obnoxious -- it would be a waste and a shame to lose your wit and insights. We can't have the toxic minority ruling the FAQ site. Please stay active - contributing along with the majority who are great FAQ'ers. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing you in Eureka Springs in April...
  22. Paging Dr. Aaron Lentz! He lives in Wichita, KS. He owns a Sahara roundie. I met him in Eureka Springs, AR last April.
