  1. I'm always revising my list of favorite & least favorite '02 colors. Once I see a nearly-concours '02 in any of the factory colors, I realize that they all look very good with a super finish. Conversely, if it's dull & rusty, I am thinking it's the ugliest color devised for the '02. I was sure that I hated Siennabraun the most until I saw it on a pristine '02. I am partial to Baikal. I've yet to see a Pastelblau that was presentable, but I think I'd like it.
  2. Similar story here minus the 5-speed and the camshaft. (still 4-speed and still the orig. camshaft) I found that mine was a terrible hillclimber last year... the weakest of the bunch on one of the drives I was on. Much improved now after a rebuild. Good luck w/yours and have FUN.
  3. raising the price on this jalopy is certain to help him sell it quicker!
  4. Jim: ummmmm, it's hard for me to be objective when it comes to me and my son. I could be an observer and report back on another father & son, but I don't know how I come across to him. He knows that I love older cars, espec. w/manual transmissions and less luxuries on board. He knows I was taught to drive a manual first before I spent time with an auto trans. He could drive it on a parking lot, but he was terrible on the streets with a manual. He'd get nervous and forget everything.... I could not take it for very long. ha ha
  5. I was re-reading this thread: I didn't give my son a car exactly..... My brother had a spare one and he offered it to my son free of charge. (a '93 Camry w/~180K mi.) I thought about mandating his proficiency with a stickshift, but I abandoned that notion. I was forced to learn on a manual, but I looked forward to it and was very pleased to master it quickly. One was my sister's Pinto & the other manual was my dad's '72 2002! YAY.
  6. Liking the Mimster v. much! Wish I could have gone. I was in Nebraska for my uncle's memorial svc. Next year I will be at SO MANY gtg's you'll get tired of seeing me. Glad y'all had fun!
  7. Help fund my next car --- I'm trying to purchase a dd bimmer, but I need your $$. Red exterior, taupe cloth interior, 4-doors, a/c, am/fm/cass., hand crank windows, manual seats, manual side mirrors, fold-down rear seat. It's got 162K mi. and it is the most reliable car I've owned. Newer clutch, newer battery & muffler. (brand new shifter cable too) Summer tires are Yokohama Avid T4's on 15 in. Saturn alloys & the Winter tires are Blizzaks on 14 in. steelies (orig. to the car). It tears up the snow & laughs at the salt. After nearly 13 yrs. I can't find any rust!! Make me an offer --- I am hoping to get ~$1800 for this car. I can put you in touch with my mechanic who has serviced it since it was new in early '98....... THANKS.
  8. My 1st glimpse of a 2002 was in March of 1973, my father was shopping for a more interesting car than the '68 Falcon he'd picked up cheap. We went to Mt. Adams, overlooking downtown Cincinnati (city of 7 hills). Back then, Mt. Adams was supposedly full of hippies, artists, misfits, etc. The area had not gotten gentrified yet. I saw a '72 Golf Yellow '02 parked along the curb & wondered what was special about it and what the heck was it anyhow?! At nearly 14 y.o., I had not seen/noticed any BMW's before. It wasn't until I started driving it in 1975 that I realized why my father liked it so much. AFAIK, it was the only '02 for miles around. I would have noticed another one on the road surely... {1st one I looked @ while shopping '02's: a sad '74 Sahara in WV hiding under a dank tarp in some guy's backyard. It barely ran & was a HUGE disappointment. Dad's '02 was NOT like this one. The seller kept thinking that I was haggling when all I wanted to do was leave since I had no interest in buying. $3500 firm -- yeah, right - good luck!!}
  9. We can all be sure that Ludwig will be back on the road soon and that Mike will never part with Ludwig. (or Wolfgang)
  10. Nothing says 'tard more effectively....
  11. OK, Roberto --- stop by the Dayton area when you hit the byways in your '02 & we will have a gtg in your honor. However, now come some big decisions: Roundie or Squaretail?, factory original or modified?, Inka or Sahara?, Patina or Concours?, etc. Fun, fun. (re. the Camry 4-cylinder: my son has a '93 Camry 4 cyl. It is dull, but it sure does what it was built for. He likes it a lot. It's pushing 190K now.)
  12. I just received a (free) trunk mat from her this week. She is a pleasure to deal with. No carpet wars (sorry Al) bs here! I had won a free interior carpet set at Bo's gtg in Eureka Springs in April. I decided to go for the trunk mat instead as my carpet just isn't that bad after 35 yrs. of use. It consists of very nice material and looks great in the trunk. She packed it well and she has been very straight-up w/me. Recommended.
  13. Don't take this wrong, Robert, but you're retired? I am 51 & that ain't happening here for a long time to come! That blows my mind. Get an '02 and feel young my friend!! Do it now. Retired to me conjures up Caddy's, Buicks, & Lincoln Town cars in that sick, faded gold color. (with the blinker left on, signalling a turn....) You need that 2002 fix.
  14. I'd like to order a tropical fan blade and see if that helps. My '02 runs hotter than I'd like on hot days or when idling too long. {EDIT: thanks! to c.d.}
  15. Not sure which thermostat I have in place. Still would like to hear answers re. my question.
  16. c.d., Stacey & everyone: I thought that the shroud might not be compatible w/the tropic fan. I am looking to replace a slightly chewed up fan blade. I want to get better cooling than I have now. (std. radiator, not a 3 row core) Advice??
  17. In the mid-1970's, one of my friends was given his grandmother's white on blue 1965 Chevelle 4-door. Not only was it rust-free and low miles, but the clear vinyl over the seats had left them factory fresh. He promptly pitched out the vinyl and the upholstery finally got some use!
  18. This means that the little blue-haired ladies in the 1950's & 60's were right: cover those seats with clear vinyl AND the floor mats too!
  19. Funny....I was in Melbourne on Sat. I drove up from Vero Beach to see the McLarty Treasure Museum and then I had lunch in the old shopping district of Melbourne. (The Burger Place) Then I did a beer-tasting at the Florida Beer Co. I was driving a red 2001 325i borrowed from my wife's aunt. A late hello, since I am back in Ohio now.....
  20. That IS STOOOOOPID. I don't think I could have gotten a wet Porsche to light up like that. He must have a special talent.
  21. William & Jessie are tops. I need to get out there for a visit!
  22. Years ago, I was window-shopping new Toyotas & a salesman approached me. I told him what I thought the car should sell for (accurately) i.e. NOT MSRP & he got quite pissy & directed me to the used car lot since I must be unworthy or flat-broke -- clearly... F him!!!!! Recently while trying to replace Mary's totalled station wagon, I met some DUM guys trying (badly!) to sell me a used SW. They couldn't sell icewater in the Mojave Desert. F them too!!! DOUBLE DUM.
