  1. OK, Roberto --- stop by the Dayton area when you hit the byways in your '02 & we will have a gtg in your honor. However, now come some big decisions: Roundie or Squaretail?, factory original or modified?, Inka or Sahara?, Patina or Concours?, etc. Fun, fun. (re. the Camry 4-cylinder: my son has a '93 Camry 4 cyl. It is dull, but it sure does what it was built for. He likes it a lot. It's pushing 190K now.)
  2. I just received a (free) trunk mat from her this week. She is a pleasure to deal with. No carpet wars (sorry Al) bs here! I had won a free interior carpet set at Bo's gtg in Eureka Springs in April. I decided to go for the trunk mat instead as my carpet just isn't that bad after 35 yrs. of use. It consists of very nice material and looks great in the trunk. She packed it well and she has been very straight-up w/me. Recommended.
  3. Don't take this wrong, Robert, but you're retired? I am 51 & that ain't happening here for a long time to come! That blows my mind. Get an '02 and feel young my friend!! Do it now. Retired to me conjures up Caddy's, Buicks, & Lincoln Town cars in that sick, faded gold color. (with the blinker left on, signalling a turn....) You need that 2002 fix.
  4. I'd like to order a tropical fan blade and see if that helps. My '02 runs hotter than I'd like on hot days or when idling too long. {EDIT: thanks! to c.d.}
  5. Not sure which thermostat I have in place. Still would like to hear answers re. my question.
  6. c.d., Stacey & everyone: I thought that the shroud might not be compatible w/the tropic fan. I am looking to replace a slightly chewed up fan blade. I want to get better cooling than I have now. (std. radiator, not a 3 row core) Advice??
  7. In the mid-1970's, one of my friends was given his grandmother's white on blue 1965 Chevelle 4-door. Not only was it rust-free and low miles, but the clear vinyl over the seats had left them factory fresh. He promptly pitched out the vinyl and the upholstery finally got some use!
  8. This means that the little blue-haired ladies in the 1950's & 60's were right: cover those seats with clear vinyl AND the floor mats too!
  9. Funny....I was in Melbourne on Sat. I drove up from Vero Beach to see the McLarty Treasure Museum and then I had lunch in the old shopping district of Melbourne. (The Burger Place) Then I did a beer-tasting at the Florida Beer Co. I was driving a red 2001 325i borrowed from my wife's aunt. A late hello, since I am back in Ohio now.....
  10. That IS STOOOOOPID. I don't think I could have gotten a wet Porsche to light up like that. He must have a special talent.
  11. William & Jessie are tops. I need to get out there for a visit!
  12. Years ago, I was window-shopping new Toyotas & a salesman approached me. I told him what I thought the car should sell for (accurately) i.e. NOT MSRP & he got quite pissy & directed me to the used car lot since I must be unworthy or flat-broke -- clearly... F him!!!!! Recently while trying to replace Mary's totalled station wagon, I met some DUM guys trying (badly!) to sell me a used SW. They couldn't sell icewater in the Mojave Desert. F them too!!! DOUBLE DUM.

  14. Way funnier than the lame material on SNL!!
  15. FYI: I posted a message in the Events section as well.
  16. Please reserve the weekend of October 8th & 9th for THE GREAT KENTUCKY RIDGE RUN. Jason Gipson has planned a 125 mile ridge line drive through the hills of rural Kentucky. The roads are curvy and feature frequent changes in elevation as well as width! There will be some hill hops and various off-camber turns, so we will need to be vigilant. We will be passing through places like: Cynthiana, Carlisle, Brooksville, Sardis, Falmouth, Mt. Olivet, etc. The fall colors and rural scenery will be beautiful. On Friday and Saturday nights we will be staying at The Country Lodge at Sabbath Song Farm in Brooksville, KY. It is a B&B with one private suite available ($100/night) and a loft with 10 single beds. ($25/head) There is some overflow space in the basement studio for cots, air mattresses, & sleeping bags, plus there are two sofas down there as well. Breakfasts are included on Saturday & Sunday. Dinner on Saturday night will be provided by our host for $8/person. Some of you may wish to stay at the French Quarter Inn in Maysville for a more private, luxury stay. ($85/night -- includes an over-sized deep whirlpool tub, mini-fridge, restaurant, outdoor pool, & balcony views of the Ohio River.) Stops along our route will include lunch at Biancke's Restaurant (founded in 1894), a photo-op-ready covered bridge, The Doll & Toy Museum in Carlisle, and Sunflower Sundries Farm in Mt. Olivet. On Friday the 8th, we will rendezvous at the Shell station at 430 Gloria Terrell Dr. Wilder, KY 41076. Time: 5:00 PM. The drive along Route 10 to The Country Lodge at Sabbath Song Farm will take about 1 hour & 20 minutes. We will have a cookout at the B&B once we get there. Bring something to share. Meat, buns, condiments, and soft drinks will be provided. It is not a dry county, so you can bring beer or wine. There is a firecircle with firewood provided, so we can gather around the fire in the evening. There is a full kitchen available to us and a large common room as well. There is also a deck off of the common room/kitchen area. 17. I followed Mike Self's lead in using a male German name. I liked the name Dieter. He'd already named his 3 BMW's Wolfgang, Johannes, & Ludwig. I've got a good name I want to use on my next BMW, but I won't say right now since I don't want anyone to nab that monniker.
  18. Send that one to the Werk Shop in IL w/a few gold ingots & you'd have a showstopper.
  19. That stinks, Brian. A very good brew in any case.
  20. In Ohio, it's a 3-way tie for 1st between Sahara, Malaga, & Chamonix. The wild colors (Taiga, Mintgrun, Golf, Inka, etc. ) are very rare in these parts.
  21. Brian: before you throw the lot away, some folks in Calif. may need the smog bits which you could sell. (not for very much, but hey)
  22. It is risky running a small business. The auto repair shop I used to use went under because of embezzlement. Lots of cars were in limbo when that shop suddenly closed. I called to pick something up & had a long rambling talk w/the owner who was nearly in tears. It felt very weird, consoling him as he was about to lose it.
  23. It hit some of my nerves too. My 19-year-old son gave up on learning how to drive a stickshift. Too much effort, too much correction from his father who was trying to teach him it seems. I don't think that he will ever try again. Watching me enjoy my vintage BMW with a 4 speed manual had very little effect on him.... {EDIT: jrhone, please read my post below}
  24. I heard about the sudden need for an engine rebuild, Sam. I talked to Joseph about that. I'm very glad my engine has been redone. Now I need a new key made.... (broke the only ignition key!) Good luck -- you two will have matching 1600-2's before long.
  25. That's the '02 that Jason's friend bought, isn't it? Good to have a solid, non-rusty '02 and to cut your losses! Sounds like a score, getting a good one so cheaply. Good luck, Brian!!
