  1. I was gonna go this year, but too many snafu's, breakdowns, and one of our cars got totalled. Not a good time for me to be spending $100's more on top of all that. Focusing on the family instead this weekend. Maybe next year?
  2. George: you met our doggies in May! BTW, thank you so much for the parcel we just received. You are a true gentleman and an exemplary 2002 owner!! You certainly didn't have to send it, but it sure is appreciated!
  3. The SAAB 99 in the picture is exactly like the one my dad drove in the late 70's. Fun to drive, but it had too many things fail/break when it was new IMO. It could hold a lot of cargo.
  4. I did a search of prior messages by Sooner. Apparently he/she is in NM. Paging Sooner!!
  5. I can't recall seeing one of these on the road. I saw lots of Kadetts, Mantas, & GT's, but not this model. They must've been rare even back then.
  6. I am thinking there will be a lot of interest in this one. GLWS. Where are you?
  7. I have similar memories from childhood of family vacations in a station wagon. In my case, dad was driving a '60 Falcon Wagon, with no a/c & a small 6 cylinder engine, hauling the 5 of us to Nebraska or to Garden City, SC. Dad never wanted to stop for the restroom, it was go-go-go. If we stopped for gas, he'd be starting to pull out before we'd finished our sodas. Back then you had to stick the glass bottle in the rack before you sped away. I hated to put it back with any left in it. Soft drinks were a rare treat at the time. It was mostly 2-lane highways, not much in the way of huge interstate hwys. then.
  8. Aaron: let's talk about schizo. OK, we just bought another 2001 Taurus SES wagon to replace the nearly identical one totalled in a 4 car pileup on 6/28. (Mary is OK.) It's great for family vacations & car-pooling. Mary loves it so I got another for her. Chris Burd shares my schizo. tendencies when it comes to '02's & Taurus wagons! He's got 2 Taurus wagons & gets 200K mi. out of them & then gets another! EDIT: YES I did, Harv!!! hehehehehe!
  9. Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap, etc. Next: a Shutterfly book -- you've got a great start on one! Great photo essay, Jason.
  10. I am driving mine a lot in the Dayton area these days. Most people --- NO interest. I need one in a crazy 70's color to get attention it seems.
  11. Guys, you left out the Dixie Drive In. When I was growing up, Cincinnati used to have a dozen Drive Ins, but all of them are gone. The names of so many I can recall: Skyview, Woodlawn, Jolly Roger, Mt. Healthy, Dent, Twin, Oakley, Acme, Ferguson Hills, Starlite, etc. Sad.
  12. Now I need to do the same - we still have a few Drive-In movie theaters around here. We went to see "Toy Story 3" the other night. That was one of the last times I drove our Taurus wagon before it got demolished in a car crash. I may seal the deal on its clone on Monday. They are getting a bit rare around here.
  13. I have learned that any original ' 02 color looks great to me as long as it is shiny & the car is well preserved. Conversely, any of the orig. colors can look ugly if there is oxidized paint, rust, dents, & other forms of neglect.
  14. ummmmmm, do you like overspray and a poorly-done respray in general?? This '02 is some sort of Frankenbimmer hastily thrown together by our buddies in Dallas, so be AFRAID, be very AFRAID..... Run away.
  15. All of us in the Dayton area noticed that listing! Good luck! We have a bunch of '02 owners around here, btw. Where do you live? Is this your first '02? Send me your email & I will add you to my list of owners in the region so we can keep you up to date re. gtg's & stuff.
  16. Terrafugia is considering locating their mfg. facilities in the Dayton area. They have not committed to building here, but the story keeps showing up in the news. People are skeptical that flying cars are the answer to the region's economic woes.
  17. Thanks, Spicey & Eagle Eye, whoever you are....??? I found one that I like very much. It wouldn't be prudent to spend several times more for less, would it? (I'd say the BS factor in this Ebay listing is exceedingly high.)
  18. I am merely grinning, so I must have heard Mike's joke before.... Gotcha, Mike!
  19. I am not hearing of many FAQ-types going to this event. Is there anybody besides myself and Tom Madine going? I hope I will run into dozens of you there. I made my room reservations yesterday at the host hotel. Speak up if you want to attend....... Thanks!
  20. I wish I was as fast as you are at getting an '02 straightened out. I've been plugging away since July '03. The 5 year plan turned into a 10 year plan! Anyhow -- excellent progress w/your Verona 74.
  21. I like that look very much with the new wheels & the chrome bumpers, etc. I may steal some of your ideas for my Sahara squaretail.
  22. I looked at some old paperwork today. When I bought mine, it had approx. 157K miles; now it has exactly 181,461 miles. That averages out to approx. 3400 mi./yr. since I purchased it. How does that compare with the rest of you? (edit: I believe my avg. will go up now that the engine is sorted out!)
  23. Fascinating tale, Beej. It doesn't make me miss my '81 Rabbit 'S' too much. It had a mysterious past & some nasty surprises of its own. Mary nearly made selling it a precondition to getting married.
  24. Convince my wife it is a great idea and I 'll fly out to get it.
  25. Wow, everybody perked up on this one. I don't have time this week, but I am sure somebody I know will be all over it. I saw the posting last night while I was at work.
