  1. I know very little beyond what I've recently picked up w/an engine rebuild. Mine is bored out & has piano-top pistons with a 9.5 : 1 compression ratio. It was recommended to me (no track time planned, no racing) to keep the orig. cam & to leave the flywheel alone. That's just me. The orig. equipt. is v. good unless you are going for something a lot more aggressive? Of course, I very badly wanted a 5-speed, but that was a $$ issue. Good luck.
  2. ohhhhhhhh; no wonder I hadn't a clue. My mom goes by Pat or Mo-Mo. (or if the other person is very old: Patty)
  3. Yeah, I understand except for the 'chopper' part. Come again?
  4. Great! Blunt & George have reservations. I told Mike Self that I am undercutting the Dayton-area motels once again. BTW: the snorkel you sold me is now fitted to my orig. style aircleaner and summer/winter box. Looks very good and matches nicely with all the other shiny bits under the hood! Drove my '02 on the interstate last night. (first time at 65 MPH+) Everything's working super, still needs a 5-speed conversion. Ran out of $$ for that item during the engine rebuild.
  5. It's hard not to start on the Ricky Bobby movie quotes! It's soooo stupid, yet soooo funny.
  6. Yeah, drop in on May 27th (Dayton). You buy the 1st beer, & I'll buy the 2nd! I will put people up for the night here if they're willing. Joseph "Ironbutt" O'Neil stayed here last year as did Kris Tobias, Blunt and others. Mike Self is planning to have a dinner gtg that eve. at an area restaurant... See you soon.
  7. I saw this one at the shop while it was in for servicing. It looks very good. Mike says it works VERY well now. It was a 1-owner car all these years. When the orig. owner died, family members pushed the '02 on the young relative who knows nothing about '02's. ( & it doesn't meet his needs) So, if you want a low-mileage, (nearly) one-owner '02, w/ a rare color -- Granatrot..... I'm guessing he might take less. (NM/NA, etc.)
  8. Totally thumbs up!! Just drove mine in the countryside for fun. The rebuilt engine is very smooth and eager to rev. It's been quite some time since I enjoyed driving it so much. I'd like to get a top-quality repaint one day. Enjoy!
  9. Wow. I'd never heard of this VW til now. You have got to love Paul Newman!
  10. I don't think they could do all those tricks with a 1960's Cadillac Fleetwood! Impressive what they were doing in the video.
  11. That's great. I've not been there, yet. Hosting Dieter's Birthday Party on Sunday. I fear that Dieter will still be in the shop. Noise/Vibration problems came with the rebuild -- very annoying.
  12. Don: I am glad you could clarify things a bit. Where did you travel to?
  13. All these plugs for 3M; where's beammmer?? Get in here, Don!
  14. Wow! Can't wait to see your redone '02! Good job on the bumpers too.
  15. He's sorta iffy about keeping Wolfgang. ha ha, as if! BTW: Dieter update! FINALLY DONE!!!!!!!! The engine runs super I am told. I would have picked it up today, but Mary and Alec were busy with other things. Karl dropped by this afternoon with some excellent Belgian Ale and his '67 Sahara 1600-2, so it was a very '02 kinda day here!
  16. Yeah, that is good to know, Timmer. You'll be back, former owners always come back! Last minute alternator problems have held up completion of the project. I will use my '02 a lot more knowing that the engine is fresh. It will be way more fun w/more power, less smoke, etc.
  17. I can relate to that; though mine is not back yet from a major engine overhaul. (started mos. ago.) Have fun with your '02!
  18. His b'day party is on the 16th at my place. I may have to borrow Karl's tii to have an '02 to drive that day, however. Someday, someway, I will have my '02 back again.
  19. I don't think that Adam West approves!
  20. I don't recommend the Ebay route. Meet some genuine '02 folks at Vintage and let them teach you a thing or two about the '02 addiction. Don't be in a hurry. Take your time to learn about these cars. When you are truly ready to purchase one, take a local '02 expert with you -- this will save you a fortune in the long run. Find one that's been maintained by someone who loves their '02. Avoid rust if at all possible! Good luck!
  21. Select Classics has an outlet in Calif. in addition to Dallas, I see. Overspray (!!!), wrong wheels, wrong seats, misaligned front passenger fender; cockeyed rear bumper, yeah it's easily worth 15 grand. I actually like Frankenbimmers painted by crackheads.
  22. So yours is missing? Well, there is an eccentric guy who lives not far from me. You'll need to go with Mike and me when we try to get him to come out and talk '02's. He has a blue '76 auto. on the driveway & his wife says he has a roundtail in the garage with loads of parts... This home is packrat city. Who knows what we could find??? The motherlode of rare parts or piles of crap-ola? (I talked to the wife & left a note for him, but no luck so far. She wants it all sold.)
  23. Tom: maybe you can come to Dieter's Birthday Party on 5-16? I won't be going to V@V, so have a good time for me.
