  1. Sounds great. I 'd go for one just like yours will be, that's for sure.
  2. Yeah, the 510 was a lot cheaper to buy, I realize. (so they got beat to shit) If Paul Newman liked the 510, there must be something there, I admit. That being said, the 510 still does nothing for me.
  3. While the Datsun 510 is equally boxy, it has no style when parked next to an '02. The two get compared to eachother, but I'd never go for the plain, cheap-looking 510.
  4. Tim: you may have told people elsewhere, but what year, what color, what cond. was this 02 when you started to work on it? I'm guessing it was Sahara originally.
  5. Send more business to BLUNT. He does not disappoint his '02 customers.
  6. Shoooooot. Now I miss doing that all over again. At least the next time I do, it will be with a freshened up M10. Oh yeah!!
  7. When I was a teen, I alternated driving my dad's '72 Golf '02 with driving my sister's '73 4-speed white w/blue interior Pinto. BIG diff. - oh yeah.
  8. I need to come back to Hollister since I did not actually drive the famous Q S Road. Really enjoyed the driving we did though.
  9. Wow. I have never seen one on the streets, but I've seen a few at Concours events.
  10. Even if you do paint & body work and know how to weld, this car hasn't felt any love for a looooong time. Everything screams neglect, which also screams $$$$ to you. Parts car at best.
  11. Very nice so far. You might consider making the interior all black which is non-stock, but looks right somehow. I saw a Sahara roundie done that way at Watkins Glen in '07. Nice look. Sahara is a good color. Kind of unloved, but it grows on you espec. if kept clean & shiny.
  12. I am with c.d. on this one. The hidden and not so hidden horrors.... Mine presented waaaay better & it's cost me plenty over time. Neglected /poor maintenance costs a lot. Paint & body work costs a lot. Buy the best one that your budget can tolerate!
  13. I nearly talked my dad into buying a '72 Malaga Bavaria (a dealer demo), but he bought a used Volvo 164E instead. The Volvo was a good car, but I still wish he'd gotten the Bav.
  14. OK, Daniel, here goes: Jim Denker Forum ID: Jim_75Sahara 3840 Robertann Drive, Kettering, OH 45420 '75 Sahara 2002 Willing to help out in any way possible, though I am a lousy mechanic. I can give you a lift to Mike McCarthy's shop (Foreign Car Parts & Svc. in Huber Hts.) or bring in my neighbor, Roundel columnist Mike Self, to help you out.
  15. My friend, Kfunk, he's the man to talk to.... He drove a well-worn $700 '74 '02 from the west coast to Athens, Ohio. Amazing journey.
  16. It was the Audi 5000, my mom had one back then. It had a terrible effect on Audi's U.S. car sales. It took them many years to recover. When it was investigated thoroughly, no defect was found in the 5000. Rumors only... With Toyota, it is a genuine electronic glitch of some sort, not a mechanical one.
  17. That's great, Karl! I am eager to take a ride in it! You heard that mine is in the shop for (badly-needed) engine work, didn't you? Have fun with your "old" car.
  18. It's looking like I might be able to attend. It depends on whether the engine is ready or not. Event is just after my birthday, so I told Mary that this is would be the perfect present!
  19. 'dream, dream, dream, all I have to do is dream....'
  20. The French car is a Citroen 2CV. It was the French "people's car" -- equivalent to the VW Beetle. Very light, cheap, fuel efficient, simple, etc.
  21. Someone mentioned that it is a classless car. That's true, some of us are weatlhy, some are struggling students, some are newly married w/ a kid on the way, some are retired.... Instead what '02 owners have in common is smarts and an upbeat, pragmatic approach to life. Fun with style and practicality for all!
  22. OK, gwb, I drop the Werk Shop & raise you a Lothar!! You are right. VERY much to the right... he he he.
  23. Also, no sunroof, and the woodgrain gauge cluster panel is black instead. It's pretty nice, but it's not all correct. I'd like to see it done to Bill Williams' standards or the Werk Shop's standards. (all correct, all perfectly clean and sorted)
  24. It's well worth the money, I'd say. I can't understand why the thermal reactor/smog equipment is still intact though. (OH, thanks, jrhone.)
