  1. Sad news. We recently went to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OHIO. (!!) There is a very good display crediting Les w/inventing the solid body electric guitar. Many photos and various crude prototypes are on exhibit. The prototypes were ugly and caused the execs at Gibson & other companies to be against them. Eventually the Les Paul Gibson electric guitar was born. (thanks to Les being a stubborn man with a Great Idea)
  2. Seriously, just PISS OFF!!
  3. Around here, the tristate area means OH/IN/KY, so I was SURE you meant that!!
  4. Robert: I think you & I agree on this issue for the most part. Skip: Sorry about the decrease in your auto repair business. Up until recently, at least, local auto repair shops were very busy fixing higher mileage cars. (incl. mine) Destroying cars that still function/have value is hard for me to support. The more I learn, the more I have major reservations about this govt. program.
  5. Robert: I did not put this topic in the Politics/OT section since it does not split along obvious Repub./Democrat lines. I have not decided what I think of this program yet. But --- there will be many unintended consequences & the road to hell is paved w/good intentions. A lively discussion is my aim. (not a Right vs. Left melee)
  6. Does anyone else puzzle over the logic behind this Govt. program?? They are rewarding folks who stupidly bought Explorers, Suburbans, Grand Cherokees, Excursions, etc. a number of years ago during the SUV craze. We bought a '98 Saturn in early '98, so we cannot claim this "free" money. (Yeah, I should have gotten a gently used E30 4-door w/5 speed, but that's another story.) Taxpayer money comes from all of us, so it's a reallocation of resources for some grand purpose. Is this the best use of our money? Should the SUV's be run into the ground or should they be shredded when they still work reliably?? AND -- Where's my pat on the back for buying a fuel-efficient American car 11 yrs. ago?
  7. Stay safe, wild-man! I must return to reality. I will be thrilled to see our Rat Terrier (Addie) once we get home!!
  8. Dag, I really like that one. Are you near Lenox? Passed through there on our honeymoon, say, about 19 yrs. ago... Beautiful area.
  9. We drove through the Denver area yesterday am. Didn't know of Steve's Golf '75 for sale. Looks good, but Sahara's better!!
  10. Great news, Rob! Good luck & God bless. Enjoy.
  11. Wow! Intiguing re. their interest in the '02's. Phil Lesh is on my list for worst concert experience (EVER) when he opened for Bob Dylan at Millett Hall, Miami Univ. a few years back. At least he knows a good car...
  12. I will be heading out to Frisco, CO on Sun. Wonder if there are any '02 owners along I-80? We will be in our Taurus wagon (family vacation), but it'd be fun to meet up w/an '02 owner if poss. Let me know if you're out there.
  13. The FW190.....I built a model of one in the early 70's. A beautiful plane and very lethal in the hands of a top pilot.
  14. I had thought of going to this event, but only had one night off from work. It was too much driving from Dayton to Lexington & back so quickly. My friend entered his 911 in the show.
  15. Mike McCarthy is the reason that my '02 has been so reliable. I am no mechanic, so I depend on him. He treats mine as if it were his own. He is a good friend as well. You are correct in recommending his repair & parts services. Thanks for giving credit where it's due!!
  16. Wish I'd been there. What does "& amp" mean on the photo captions?? I cannot figure that out for anything!
  17. Wish I could have been there. Just work, work, work, here in Ohio. Maybe next year.
  18. G-Man is right about Sahara, they've gotta know what the car is 1st to give a thumbs-up. The Sahara paint is not what catches their attention. AND -- many people don't "get" the connection btwn. the iconic grill on the '02 & the various twin kidneys on newer BMW's. ("what kind of car is that??" DUH)
  19. No, Phi Delta Theta - Ohio Theta chapter. Any other Phi Delts here?
  20. "...the plate doesn't help..." My plate reads: BIMMR 75 -- & they'll say: what year is it?? On Sat. an MGA driver gave me the thumbs-up on I-675 coming back from Yellow Springs. I liked that; he knew what I had & I knew what he had. FUN.
  21. How much for the '74 tii? Any more pictures?
  22. Baby Boomers are about done buying Harleys. A lot of posers bought them for weekend-warrior purposes. Also, the hard-core bikers can scoop up a lot of cheap used Harleys --- easy credit is gone and layoffs are prevalent. Do younger folks even buy Harleys? I don't know.
  23. I know that exact spot. And I certainly know that '02! Jealous. Today, I'll drive Dieter out to Yellow Springs for the biannual John Bryan State Park to Clifton Mill hike. (a tradition Alec & I have) We're having cooler than normal weather now -- time to take advantage.
  24. Just for the record: those reflectors are worse than crappy. They gotta go.
  25. (See the NYT article of 7-5-09). He has 57 cars & trucks, 11 motorcycles & scooters. The total cost of acquiring his 1st 6 cars was around $1000. 1. 1936 Chevy from his grandmother 2. 1954 Mercury Monterey 2-door hardtop 3. 1953 Jaguar XK120 4. 1955 Buick 5. 1950 Studebaker Starlight coupe 6. 1942 Buick Roadmaster. He has a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe convertible which was used in the music video "Smooth" by Carlos Santana. He also has the 1965 Chrysler 300 convertible ("as big as a whale") which was used in the the B-52's video for "Love Shack." No BMW's mentioned, but there is a 1961 Messerschmitt KR200 bubble car in the collection. (all stored in a 12,300 sq. foot garage formerly the home of the California Pie Co.)
