  1. Michael, you are also a very good essayist on top of your other talents. Thanks for your humorous take on things. p.s. I bet I know which restaurant you alluded to....keep them afloat by all means!
  2. {Also see a slideshow and list for a closer look at the BMW Art Car collection: www.nytimes.com/autos} For two weeks this month, BMW's famous Art Cars by Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein will be on display in Grand Central Terminal. Anybody gonna go see them??
  3. Both my parents are from the Omaha area. Many cousins, aunts, & uncles of mine out there. (Go Cornhuskers!!) I am in Nebr. maybe once a year on average. No 2002's among my relatives, however. Sorry.
  4. (1) Pack the kids' lunches for school. (2) Delay selling Saturn DD for very excellent E46 I want. (3) Coupon clipping for groceries. (4) Cheaper Spring break trip this year. (5) Smaller annual budget for Dieter's 10-year plan. (15-yr. plan?) (6) Bought nice $3 jeans at Goodwill instead of $45 jeans elsewhere! (7) Treat wife better and better; divorce would be a disaster for us!!
  5. If I get called by a live one trying to sell me something, it's time for fun. I begin by saying: "Hewohh" using my best Elmer Fudd voice in confused mode! Then I act as though I have all the time in the world, talking nonsense over their spiel, never forgetting that I AM Elmer Fudd.
  6. I should promote the MW '02 Group, but THE02GROUP truly is a great bunch of '02 nuts. They have been very kind and hospitable to this Ohioan when I come to NC. (Vintage attendee X3 & plan to attend this May) Thanks to people like Scott Sturdy, Mike Pugh and many others, they are an active, knowledgeable, fun group.
  7. Weird to say it, but, Armond that was funny. I agree with you on this solitary thing. ha ha
  8. Hey, Karl. Looks like Paul Jenemann's '76 Polaris. He has a Euro-type license on the front w/his daughter's birthday as the numbers IIRC. My son and I nearly went up to Young's Dairy and John Bryan State Park today. Instead we stayed closer to home, hiking for 2 hrs. at Sugar Creek Nature Preserve. Clifton Mill has good food as well. We eat there more than at Young's Dairy. Ha Ha Pizza is uber-gut as well.
  9. Hey, man, it wasn't Mike -- it was ME who suggested the FOB book. Whew, got that cleared up!!
  10. The R&T article is critical of the Glas GT's handling. Did you add stiffer shocks & springs? Did you keep the ride height the same as original? It will be great to see your Faux GT at Vintage.
  11. Chet, Great idea, do it. Bring your copy of "Friends of BMW". If you come through Ohio, let us know. We had 2 separate gtg's for William and Jessie when they drove cross country. Kfunk drove his through Death Valley & over the Rockies in his crusty '74. His destination was here in Ohio, so we adopted him.... His blog of the trip was fascinating. (Paging: William and Kfunk for your input.)
  12. The general opinion is that Bilstein HD's are the best for DD duties. Mine has them along w/H&R springs which lower the car slightly, improving the handling w/out being too aggressive for street driving. Also, take out the spacers in the front which are there due to federal bumper height stds. of the 1970's.
  13. Objectively speaking, GM appears doomed unless they can instantly produce a white-hot best selling car AND abruptly cut their costs in an amazing manner. Billions in federal loans are merely providing the burn through money rather than leading to mega-changes. AND --- moving on to Chrysler, why should taxpayers blow billions on a high-risk bailout when the Cerberus investors choose not to make further investments in Chrysler?! Put up your own money or shut up. Anyhow, I sure hope that Ford is in a stronger position than GM and Chrysler.
  14. I have never driven either one, but I am more interested in having a '91 318is myself. I am sure that I would like it a lot. The E30 design is classic BMW to me; more so than the Z3. Just an opinion.
  15. Uncle Al had a reputation for shoving tots out of the way if they got between him and the TV cameras... ha ha He accused my big brother of lying that it was his birthday while cameras were rolling -- though Al was right, he was lying to him!
  16. at the age of 84. I must have watched his show 500 times or more in the early to mid 1960's. The show ran locally out of WCPO channel 9 from 1950 to 1985. You could get tickets and be on the show as one of the dozens of kids in the audience. His wife, Wanda, was his sidekick, Captain Windy, who would read to the kids & draw pictures for them. He would tell funny stories and play his accordian. A big deal was the "Birthday Merry Go Round" for tots having a birthday the day of the show. ... wheee! There must have been something similar in just about every TV market back then. In Louisiana they had "Buckskin Bill" on for many, many years out of a station in Baton Rouge.
  17. A Reminder: the cutoff date for reserving at the lower group rate is April 1st. Please use this link to reserve at Salt Fork and also message me to let me know that you plan on being there. LINK: Http://MeetingProposal.com/CL.asp?ID=HUVNPWTPID&PID=529230 We will have a drive through the countryside, incl. a stop for lunch and some shopping. Saturday evening will include a cookout at the Denker/McCarty cottage by the waterfront, so drop in for a beer, a brat, etc. There will be door-prizes and other amazing bits. Hope to see you before long. Any Q's? --- Email me at j DOT denker AT sbcglobal DOT net. TIA.
  18. Expensive, but it looks brand-new. The few modifications made were tasteful, too.
  19. Welcome. (any pix of your '02? and more details re. your '02?) The FAQ is great - people help each other tremendously here. Only significant cars for me (other than Dieter) would be my first: a green '71 Ford Maverick (yeah, but it was my 1st car) & a black '81 VW Rabbit S. The Rabbit was super-fun when everything worked properly, but it had many stupid failures on a monthly basis. However, it was like an '02 in that it was German, light, quick, relatively inexpensive and fun to drive!
  20. Sam, I lived in Alexandria, LA from early 1968 - late 1972, so I learned to like red beans and rice, poundcake, cornbread, gumbo, moonpies, RC Cola, Mardi Gras, etc. I learned to say y'all among other things... My older brother grad. from LSU and is still living near Baton Rouge. His wife has Louisiana roots (B.R. & N.O.) going back many generations.
  21. I am jealous... of that moonpie, of course! I am glad you guys had fun. Wish it was closer, so I could sneak down there. See y'all in May!
  22. When I was alerted that TireRack was closing them out, I ordered a set last fall. No regrets. I hope they are not totally unavailable now.
  23. Here is the link to reserve a room or a cottage at Salt Fork: (group rate is for the MW 2002 Group) LINK: Http://MeetingProposal.com/CL.asp?ID=HUVNPWTPID&PID=529230 Also, let me know if you are planning to attend. TIA!
  24. Hi Jason. You got my attention. Tomorrow, I will be posting a bunch of info. about the May 9th Salt Fork Creek Resort GTG. My son recently started a Facebook account. He went from "who needs the internet?" to having a great time with Facebook. It is fascinating. Other info. that needs sharing is that Mike Self will be heading a caravan to Vintage at the Vineyard, pulling out of Beavercreek Fri. morning May 22nd en route to NC. We would like to build up a respectable caravan of '02 nuts. BTW, I have invited the 02GROUP of NC/VA to come up and join us for the May GTG. I am excited that several have already made plans to attend. Pretty soon I will be able to produce a decent headcount, once I ask people to commit to coming or not.
  25. Dave, Alec (my 17 y.o.) took the pix that day. I was drinking beer and forgetting to take any photos. It was fun. Hope you can make it to Salt Fork State Park for the May 9th gtg. I will post an update on room rates and all re. that event soon!
