  1. Great story, Daniel. Keep it Sahara -- we can't all re-do our '02's in Inka. BTW, my 1st car (for all of $600) was a '71 Maverick, but no 302, just the avg. inline 6 cyl. engine. Very reliable, but a gas hog IMO.
  2. I went to the Ault Park Concours D'Elegance in Cincinnati yesterday. I met Jeff Lane of the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. He brought a number of microcars including the tiniest car of all: the Peel. I had gone to his museum back in '06 on Mike Self's recommendation. He remembered Mike since he had fine-tuned a 4CV for him while visiting the museum years ago. There was a very exquisite burgundy 507 there owned by Rick Grant, a Daytonian w/quite a collection of concours automobiles. Likewise, it was in the 90's here in Ohio and humid. My son and I are not used to the heat yet. Oh, and the Batmobile from the old TV show was there.
  3. Can't wait to see your Golf tii! Come to think of it, we need to meet up in person for the 1st time. Looks like you're having a great trip. Enjoy.
  4. Hmmmmmmmm. Keep me posted Mike. Since I am now a long-distance member of The 02 Group, I should try to attend, n'est pas?? Again, great fun along the Blue Ridge Parkway recently. You guys are OK no matter what they say about you!

  6. He did appreciate it! He opened up the shop for me and we talked a while. The tranny shifts so smoothly now -- which I appreciate. First time since 1975 that I have shifted such a smooth 2002 transmission! BTW: he has a nice red '91 318is in for some work and he showed me a 318ti (auto.) with a toasted engine that he's about to revive. He has a dark blue 7-series that he's trying to sell. Looks great, low miles.
  7. Just got my '02 back from a desperately needed clutch replacement. It shifts wonderfully now. I had been fighting it for several years. Parts incl. clutch assembly, pilot bearing, crank seal, flange gasket, seal ring, trans mount, & slave cylinder. It was all toast. So, there goes my economic stimulus check from Uncle Sam.
  8. Your loss is our gain, Ibjettin. Ian lives in Dayton and we are excited over your '02 becoming his '02. We need a bit of GOLF in the MW '02 lineup. We have been heavy on Sahara (3 of them) around here. Get another one when the '02 withdrawal becomes too painful.
  9. This is what I love about the FAQ: SAVE that '02! Everybody gets interested and people volunteer to help out. Keep us all posted.
  10. Congrats on your new child, Ben! Details on your baby, please.
  11. Rob, I'll send you the right oil filter if you email me your address. (j DOT denker AT sbcglobal DOT net) Move up here and hang out with the MW '02 guys.
  12. David @ Lane Motor Museum: that is a nice museum. My son and I went there in March '06 while on a Father-son trip through KY/TN. We mixed museums with fishing, camping and Civil War battle sites. We had a great trip all in all. Tomorrow we set out for V@V together. Very excited.
  13. Ditto to Mike's message. Hey, Mark, if you live in Canton, you need to join us for our MW '02 gtg's. Send an email to: j DOT denker AT sbcglobal DOT net Tell me about your project: year, color, mods, plans for it, etc. Good luck with your '02-in-process.
  14. We have been cool & rainy here. Mine's in the shop for new hoses, fuel line, and alternator rebuild, so far. Things keep turning up. Gotta get ready for the trip to Winston-Salem at the end of this month. Triple digits will come in July/August in OH.
  15. I don't want to be a grouch, but there's nothing wrong with a '75. They did have the awful smog equipment (thermal reactor) , but all the ones I've seen have had that removed long ago. Mine runs like a champ and it did not break the bank either. It's going to haul me and my son to Vintage at the Vineyard at the end of this month.
  16. I had not heard of the earthquake there, Dave. I am very glad that you, Ginger and your students are doing fine. Hope to see you before too long!
  17. You will be ready come late May, BLUNT. My '02 is getting all-new heater hoses and fuel lines this week. I had burst a 33-year-old hose to the heater core last week. I'd say it outlasted its predicted service life by a wide margin! I am driving a borrowed '86 535i from Foreign Car Parts & Svc. Too bad it's got the slushbox.
  18. That's interesting, David, that they'd approached you regarding your '02. The credits at the end said they'd filmed on Long Island (Southampton). I wondered how such depressed, nasty, stupid people could afford to live there. My wife knew that the '02 was the major highlight of the film for me.
  19. Not a good movie, but the '02 was featured in several scenes. Wonder who it belongs to? It was in very good shape from what little I could see. I am not a fan of Nicole Kidman. Jack Black and Jennife Jason-Leigh were pretty good, though.
  20. Maybe the kids will own vintage BMW's one day like the old (to them) 1-series. Anyway, my waistline got spared those empty calories.
  21. Good advice. Mike Self and I are going to head to MA Fest next spring. It sounds too good to keep missing out. I will celebrate my '02's birthday a little later next year so I can head down there. Glad y'all had fun. See most of you soon at Vintage!
  22. Crazier still......the cake never got cut. We were too busy having fun with our '02's yesterday. We have less of a sweet tooth after 30/40/50, it seems. Now the cake is doing duty at a neighbors birthday party. Somehow they forgot to buy the cake for their grandkid! I hope they enjoy it.
  23. Harry, I have pics, but I don't know how to post them, I hate to say. My son is good with the digital camera and has helped me send some via email. I haven't seen our many pics from yesterday yet. We had 4 Saharas yesterday if you include John Blake's '76 with rattle-can black over Sahara. (the other 3: mine, Mike Self's, and Brian Aylor's) We didn't have any crazy colors like Mintgrun, Golf, Inka or even Pastelblau. See you at Vintage, Harry. (p.s. the other colors represented yesterday: Riviera, Atlantik, & Polaris.....)

  25. It was also very good to meet John Blake and Jason Gipson today for the 1st time. They came up from the Cincinnati area. (Mariemont and Batavia to be exact about it.) Welcome to our madness.
