  1. The car doesn't have to be perfect, just not a total project.

    Louis

should you ever decide to take on a PROJECT (capital letters), i have a pretty straight, remarkably minimal rust (no 02 is truely rust-free) 73 02 automatic that i've been holding onto with hopes of someday getting it going. alas, reality is setting in.

what better way to show your devotion to your wife than by creating the car of HER dreams....?

must be towed. $700 located in marin. originally an INKA car repainted copper by PO. matching numbers, no S/R, no interior. it's too nice to part out.

  2. oh josh, that is so unfair. i'm sure everyone flinches when they see that photo. your body man did a great job the last time. i hope you don't loose patience with this car. with all you've done with it you'd be hard pressed to replace it. hang in there. it still looks good. hope you get duly compensated for your inconvenience and time.

  3. Whatever you do, don't buy a 2nd '02, or a 3rd......

I have to collect parts for 4 '02s. I need to sell one or two, but parting is....

among the most sage advise one will ever read on the FAQ...

i made that mistake early and am dealing with the consequences since.

and i recently added a vintage truck to the mix....

  4. i guess i'm one of the few who voted to keep it as it is....

this website is a joy to use simply because it is so unencumbered with STUFF. posting photos is intuitive. i'm not a programmer, but i can imagine what is being requested will require a few more lines of code or some such query request.

everyone has the power within oneself to avert his/her eyes to offensive posts.

i personally would not like to be the subject of the posts that tom jones received, but it takes two to tango.

this is by far the most user-friendly board to peruse. sometimes one wants to respond quickly without logging in first. it's that simple. i'd hate to see this transform into the same 'ol same 'ol.

  5. [

Have you used their services before? I have to get one of my spares rebuilt as well.

Harry rebuilt my A4 setup last year. it's pretty. still sits in a box awaiting me to get one of my POS's up to snuff. he's primarily a carburetor rebuilder for the exotic car crowd. i *think* he rebuilt a tii throttle body for bill williams, too.

  6. i'm about to send a couple tii throttle bodies to Bieker Engineering for refurbishing. i have a mixed bag of TB's lying around. some are from roundies, some are later 1974 vintage.

    1. are they interchangeable

    2. if they are interchangeable, is there an outwardly visible que that distinguishes one from another?

    3. are the differences contained entirely under the 'tuna can'?

i'd like to stay somewhat true to the year, but am willing to mix and match if it's not a big visual faux pa (sp?).

these will be going on a 72 and 73's (if i ever get this far)....

"gads, how did i ever amass so many 02's??!!!"

  7. i have 2 5 spd conversions under my belt so far. i merely mount them in the same plane as the existing brackets, the requisite distance back. has worked for me so far. i typically clamp some flat steel bars to the existing tabs using c-clamps, verify that they are equi-distant from the top of the tunnel, more or less, and make my mark.

  8. i absolutely LOVE your truck!!!! i agree, don't ever paint it....

i bought a 1966 Ford F250 back in April. it was owned by the stockton school district and i don't ever want to paint over the school bus yellow. i spent today removing the front fenders, grill and bumpers to have them powder coated (inner fenders, not the outers). any other touchups will be with spray cans.

these old trucks, i feel, are a sensible complement to 02's. i love the straight six cylinder, unencumbered engine bay, simple dash and mechanical choke. and 4 spd on the floor.

  9. Norm,

you are killing me. i just deleted a reply with an offer to buy them sight unseen, but i've got enough projects and old carbs to keep me busy.

that is a smoking deal and i hate to pass them up.

i've got a Lynx manifold that could use one of those but i made the decision to try out the mikuni carb that came with it....

    cheers

  10. Do you have any comparisons between the Ford Wimbledon White and Chamonix? Is the Ford color brighter?

i am very happy with the choice of Wimbledon white. it is almost a dead-ringer for the chamonix on the car. it has a VERY subtle ivory softness to it that is absent in some of the harsher whites like alpine white used in later bmw's. i do not like bright white on roundies.

  11. it has been WAY too long since i've posted anything to this project. i've been sidetracked for the past couple years on other 02's. it's time to get this one running.

what i've done during the past couple years:

    rebuilt steering box, front suspension

the suspension sat idle for over 3 years until i installed it last december 2010

i swapped in a Schrick 292 camshaft last week

    i added a 5 speed transmission

i installed the engine/tranny last week

i'm debating whether to swap out the standard brake booster for one of my tii brake boosters in case i go through with a sidedraft carb setup.

i fabbed all my 5 speed conversion bits, including the rear brackets, shortened shifter platform, shift rod and shortened support bars.

  12. I got rid of mine completely. I put FatMat down under the carpet. It's great. I never liked that insulation. It deteriorates and promotes rust by trapping moisture against the metal wall.

    Best of luck to you.

i've been debating whether to do this as well. my only reservation was whether omitting it would increase the noise level in the cabin. i think it is yet another rust enabler when installed.

  13. it was bittersweet when i sold off my only currently running 02 on saturday. i am delighted that it was acquired by J.R, whom i'm confident will take care of her and enjoy her. i wasn't going to post anything about it, but when i reviewed this photo for the 1st time this morning i couldn't help but share it as i think the excitement of the moment is evident.

the problem i have is that it appears that it's only when a sale is pending that i actually buckle down and install all (or most) of the lagging bits 'n pieces that make the car whole. i drove this car for the past 6 months without a passenger seat or DS door panel and no console. i took last friday off to install all that stuff and when i was done, driving it was a whole new experience. swapping out the questionable 38/38 for a well-mannered 32/36 really helped too.

i'm slowly trying to thin the herd.

now, i'm back to being 02-less, AGAIN... at least, roadworthy ones!!!

  14. I wouldn't take the money, seems like way more than 500 to legitimately fix that nose.

yes, it is probably gonna cost more than that to fix, but from my vantage point, i'm guessing that that is probably the most you'll see from this mess. at this point it's your word against hers. problem is, is that you were behind her so she can always claim (as she initially did) that you hit her...

it sucks....anyway you slice it. take the money and lick your wounds. you can learn on your own how to repair the damage.

now for the important question: was she cute?

  15. I am going against the grain here, but finish the M20. You have plenty of time for tii's 3.0cs's and the like later in life. Get that M20 turbo running and enjoy it while tire smoke and boost still make you giggle like a little girl.

Don't pay a shop to finish it though, just get it so it can live outside and keep working on it your self.

i agree. my first thought before reading the responses was to build up the discipline to finish the job you started. there's a certain sense of satisfaction in completing a project that can not be substituted. your M20, if i'm not mistaken, was embarked in the middle of your earlier project.

if you jump from project to project without completing any of them, then you run the risk of never being satisfied with what you have. i understand that 'life gets in the way' sometimes and of course there are exceptions, but you might want to stand back and ponder this for a second.

i'm only throwing this out, because you asked....

  16. i have the same dilemma. i squirted some liquid wrench down the tubes from the cabin side. at the ass-end, the cables are all wrapped up in my futile attempt to dislodge them. i have yet to tackle them again. sounds like you burned the plastic inside???

a little more play-by-play commentary, please.
