  1. One word:

    Channelocks.

But for the money, shoot why not. Cheaper than a store bought tool.

    Looks nice.

    better word......

    pipe wrench

okay, technically, that's two words. and since i'm adding words,

pipe wrench with a rag (to minimize scoring marks)

  2. okay, your post looks like 'aspirational' food for thought...

i was following along until i read the 320 Cam. there'd be a lot of air and fuel flowing through this engine, right? getting the head cloned is one thing but the issue of the 'modified' KF Pump? what's one to do?

i know wes ingram has a tweak to his rebuilt KF pumps, but who could know if that would supply the proper fuel?

was the head you described above, the baseline setting for their A4 injection? i was thinking Alpina was a mix and match sort of tuner.

  3. keep in mind that abrasive blasting is NOT a substitute for proper degreasing prior to blasting. your parts should be clean and dry prior to blasting otherwise you'll be:

    1. contaminating the blast media for the next guy,

    2. affecting the flow characteristic of the blast media with oily residue

    3. clogging the filter media prematurely

    4. buying more abrasive media

    5. contaminating the surface you want to paint

i've been known to merely grab hold of the spindles when i blast that area and try to avoid directly aiming at them. i purposely blast the threaded area at the top.

  4. Rear struts sold.

I have another set of rear bilstein struts also for sale in identical condition, straight, good rebound and compression asking same price

125 for the set. Email me if you would like pictures.

Also if someone can help me identify if they are sports or HD's so i can update the add. No numbers on the casing as labels have faded off.

Everything posted still available with exception of the above pictured rear struts.

    Thanks for looking

    huh????

    another set???

    yea, i'll bite, again....

send some photos to the email address i sent you this morning.

  5. return it to bone stock if you can. that way you won't be giving away all your collected goodies.

exhibit A: look at the pseudo race car that sold recently on the CAR forum for $2K with a boatload of expensive items attached to it.

plus, stock cars are getting few and far between. you will likely spend an inordinate time returning this car to stock so you must be realistic in your timeframe for selling it...

  6. if you still have that seat by this tuesday, i'll ask a co-worker if he'll pick it up for me. i'm planning to take a vacation day tomorrow cuz the weather's too nice to work inside.....

    let me know monday evening

  7. i'd say any VIN lower than 1000 has a certain cachet about it and worth a second look. anything's possible and i'd hate to see this car dissolve into the earth. if it retains its original motor, extraordinary measures to save it are encouraged. i'm in the process of saving 440 and it's in pretty bad shape. i'm midway through a complete DS framerail replacement.

someone, tow this hulk home and put a good car cover on it. then decide.

  8. if you want to save your broken board, merely cut a patch sheet of thin stock aluminum, and use 5 minute epoxy to glue it over the crack. use some c-clamps or similar to hold secure until dry.

you might have to judiciously shape it to match the contour of the board, towards the ends. glue the aluminum such that it is on the side towards the roof. your patch will be stronger than the parent material.

i've used aluminum patch panels and epoxy to fix cracked heater boxes and under dash panels. nobody will ever know. it is a discrete repair.

  9. It's actually a good metaphor....

Do you want to let the natural order of things sort it out, for people to become more tactful and intelligent in order to avoid conflict, and for society to become a better place through gradual improvement and survival of the fittest?

    or

Do you want a 'nanny state' where the government takes care of your problems and protects you from your demons?

The answer depends entirely on whether you're an honest red blooded American or a socialist.

i'm guessing Kfunk was actually being very ironic with his observation. you'd have to be familiar with the political leanings of the main characters of this post.

  10. dash clock.

    You beat me to it..

not just any 'ol tii clock, but a ti-specific clock, much like the early tii clock with chrome trim and Kienzle in script letters.

    okay, i'll play along...

early dash with chrome trim and integral ashtray

specific steering wheel (i've heard it referred to as turbo-vane wheel)

no brake warning lights or wires atop of brake fluid reservoir.

    no snorkel

    6-fuse body, never a 12-fuse car.

    bathtub pistons and 121 head

the tii brakes and suspension goodies you mentioned.

almost forgot, a ti-specific bosch mechanical advance distributor

  11. the entertainment value alone, of this thread, is reason enough to not ban anyone. as tasteless as some poster's posts may seem, where would we be without a little drama interspersed with 02 queries?

who doesn't read the headlines of the National Enquirer, or glance at the young starlets on the glossies, while standing in line at the checkout counter at the grocery store?

  12. the snaps became obsolete with the introduction of the one-piece molded carpet originally used on the squaretails.

as you know, most carpet replacement kits are 14-piece and snapless. i use a lot of contact cement to keep the pieces in place. snaps would be good, but not absolutely necessary.

ask yourself this: are you intending to enter your car in a car show such as pebble beach???

  13. 68 1602 w/SR Turf VIN 1564726

PO swapped the original black/gold CA plates for the vanity plate TADPOL, kind of a bummer, but i'm keeping the vanity plate cuz it seems right.

it was given to me minus the engine/tranny and interior. i have subsequently sourced a perfect early chrome dash for it and other missing items. the original clutch and rear end were updated prior, as well.

    not driveable at present...

  14. i entered cal poly slo as a crop science major because i grew up with a backyard garden and back in high school i was known for growing some of the best marijuana in marin (the 70's). i also had a tendency to fix broken things and enjoyed woodworking (i built my own bee hives and raised bees). after a year and a half in crop science, i switched to metallurgical engineering because i wanted a more challenging education and decided there were more career opportunities in urban settings. i did not want to end up in a barley field in the middle of nowhere. no more grass in engineering school. the pursuit of relevant work experience led to an internship at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago which led to another internship at a Nuclear Research Center in West Germany. These experiences led to a difficult journey through graduate school at Georgia Tech in Nuclear Engineering. I got through that program, not because of my intelligence but more because of my stubborn determination NOT to quit and finish the program. Fortunately, i was able to take more graduate level materials courses at that time so i was better prepared for my first job in the nuclear power field as a materials engineer. after a year and a half, an old boss asked if i wanted to return to a company i co-oped with. i've been with this aeroengine company since 1993 (at 3 different locations across the country) and have fallen into the overhaul and repair side of the business that seems to meld well with my natural tendencies. i feel blessed that my work is very related to my enjoyment in fixing 02's. i have access to a cleaning department where i can turn the rustiest piece of tired old 02 crap into new looking components. i drool over the welding ability of our two welders and have given them a few 02 parts to fix, as well. i'm spoiled. last year, i chose not to apply for a management position as i'm at a stage in my life where other interests are taking a bigger role. i'm fortunate in that i don't have to bring work home and i still enjoy going to work, but my weekends are for me and i devote them to my garden, 02's and landscaping.

my advice to youngsters is to stay in school and get as much of an education as you can. it doesn't guarantee success, but it sure opens up options.
