  1. go to the building supply section of Home Depot and look for a roll of roofing patch. it's about 12 inches wide with a plastic wrap to keep it from sticking to itself. i believe it's used in the valleys of shingled roofing. it's VERY similar to Dynamat at a fraction of the cost. about $25/roll. i've used it on the floors and back seat area. it's self adhesive too, just leave the plastic film on the outer surface.

  2. i must have been 13 at the time my older sister drove up to my parent's house in her brand new 74 malaga automatic with sunroof. my dad hopped in the passenger seat and i jumped in the back seat. it was clean and new smelling.

i remember the tight turning radius. of course, my father was shocked that she spent around $5000 or $6000 for a car back then when most american cars were considerably cheaper. he kind of nagged her for being a spendthrift. he wasn't won over by it....

later, i got a ride from an owner who tossed the car side to side on a local road. that was both scary and exciting. i was won over.

i had to suffer through a beige 68 VW Bug before i could graduate to the 02.

    it wasn't till 1991 when i bought a used 74 '02.

  3. for me, the preference is purely an aesthetic one.

i REALLY like the retro look of the older style heater bezels on the dash as opposed to the updated ones found on the 73 model. sure they can be swapped out, but....

similarly, the look of the black plastic runners....

although i've seen the aluminum ones smoothed and painted black and they look good.

  4. is the VIN stamping font the same or very similar to the original numerals?

if so, would you be willing to stamp my blank plate for a fee? it was custom made for me by a fellow FAQer with the following alteration:

    1600 TI spec

    intended for a ti-clone, someday.

i was thinking i'd have to have mine engraved by a jeweler because i have not found a similar font in size or appearance.

  5. yep, i feel that was a great game till the final buzzer. to think that were it not for just a couple missed shots, we'd be having a game made for an afternoon TV drama...

i especially liked the fact that Butler was playing with such young guys. sophomores. amazing.

i used to jog around that campus and up and down the canal nearby when i was in better shape training for the mini-marathon. ohhhhh the years go by....

  6. there is a BMW Bavaria at the Richmond Pick n Pull that has the speedo cable that you can use for the 5 spd conversion. i've used one before, no problems. if it wasn't raining when i was there, it would have left with me....

while you're there, grab the window handles for a nice upgrade to your car. bolt on fit and more chrome showing.

  7. What was it? I missed the original post.

My dad bought this BMW new from Bob Smith BMW when we lived in So Cal. It has been a California car all it's life with the original plates. Inka orange with near perfect black interior. No accidents except a softball dent on the front fender from a neighbor's son. It's 100% stock, everything complete. Includes all manuals, lots of records, original window sticker, all original keys. My dad parked the car about 10 years ago after he had major knee surgery and could no longer use a clutch. It hasn't been started at all in about 5 years. I live in LA but will be back this weekend to show or take pics of the car to post. It will probably need a complete tune-up. Possibly new tires, brakes, fluid flush, etc. It is mainly rust free. My dad wants his Tii to go to someone who will really appreciate it so he might quiz you on your knowledge & love of these cars, LOL. Email me with your contact # and questions and I'll forward them to him. thanks

  8. i'm sure everyone who saw that ad offered to buy it on the spot. i did too. no love though.

i'm sure to be successful in deals like that and stand above the fray you have to offer over and above the asking price. considerably over, i'd guess. there's a lot of pros out there who know a bargain when they see it and won't hesitate to 'seal the deal' with a bonus.

that happened to me 2 years ago when i lost out on a 72tii s/r, blue plates, alpina rims for $2K. lost it over $500, only to see it on eBay a week later sell for $4000

unfortunately, i'm neither a pro, nor flush with disposable income.... :-(
