I saw this ad and thought I would pass it along.  A 1972 BMW 2002 Tii in Artic Blue over Navy.  With Tii's in the high teens to $20K+, this one looked reasonably priced for a Roundie.

VIN 2761315. It's probably a late March or early April 1972 car. I suspect not originally Arktisblau, as Arktisblau-metallic doesn't appear in the color brochures until February 1974. Seat covers have been replaced: too light for original marine blue vinyl and only 10, versus the original 12, pleats. If door cards are original then likely an original Chamonix, Polaris, or Fjord car. The re-painting looks comprehensive, even the underside, but not the work of an '02 specialist shop. All underhood stickers, and even the original riveted-on metal VIN tag, are new replacements (they ran out of space, but felt compelled to mount the square taillight-only "Achtung -- original parts" sticker, so they planted it on the inside of the right inner fender!). 1973 model year front bumper guards, pre-mid-'71 front bumper ends, and missing the rubber rub strip on the entire rear bumper, but correct trapezoid mirror. Square taillight steering wheel and speedometer. 320i rims. In other words, like most '02s, it's been messed with over its four+ decades, but looks great today.

Overall, someone spent a chunk of change on this one! The only hesitancy I would have is that it looks much too good for $13,500. So...run, but examine carefully, and make certain there is a clear title with the car!

Good catch!  It does look pretty good.  No sunroof to screw up your rockers down the road.  Some obvious things that aren't great - the wheels, the air filter, the steering wheel.  Hard to tell what's up with the color...it doesn't look exactly right, but internet photos, what are you going to do?  Other than that...

Steve, is it  Arktisblau PVC-frei?  ;-).  Apparently there are a bunch of people trying to close a deal on this car and the owner is now realizing he has under-priced it and won't commit.

Arktisblau came out mid-'74 model year, and all the metallics by that time were in their PVC-frei phase (formulation). Of course, BMW quickly discovered that the "PVC-frei" metallics were just as bad as the BMW metallics that preceded them. But, to be clear,

1.) this car did not leave the factory Arktisblau; and

2.) I'm confident BMW (and Glasurit, or whoever made the miserable metallics in those years) threw away the formula as soon as they started re-painting two-year-old PVC-frei metallic BMW's!

 

This tii's paint is, no doubt, a modern formulation of Arktisblau, and likely many times better!

I contacted "owner." Text only. No calls. Said to come look at car. $2000 deposit would hold it. No PayPal only wire to his bank account. Wouldn't answer my calls. Wouldn't give me his name. I was salivating over this but my spidey sense was screaming scam. So no money sent.

Two years ago I might have --- through an escrow service followed up by a flight to inspect the car with someone. Fortunately, there's enough great advice on this site that I expect no regular reader would do it. Nonetheless I can understand those wishing that it was legitimate. Delia Wolfe's comment on the BAT site is instructive, "Please do not buy this car sight-unseen or un-inspected and bring it to the shop where I work. I don’t like to tell proud new owners their shiny new toy is not as “near-perfect” as they believe – something I seem to be doing more frequently than I would like.".
